Why.. i was a biological child of theirs, so why?!

If i were adopted it might make some sense, but this isnt..... i-

In the home of the Rose family, there were Four adults, two children,

And an outcasted dirtrag.

"Aster! Get your ass up here and cook dinner!" Tai yelled. I shot up, sprinting for the door and then running up stairs and into the kitchen, grabbing the ingredients and beginning to cook, accidentally cutting my finger open.

"Fmm.....!!" I grabbed a bandage and held my finger together and stopped the bleeding, continuing to cook.

If i yelled, i'd only get beat more. Not to mention if i got blood on their food.

I finished up and set the table, plating food and seeing tai's bottle empty, running to the fridge, grabbing one and opening it and handing it to him. "Here you go, sir." I then walked back to  the stairs, sitting and waiting patiently, eating what little i could hide, just enough to feel full, though that didnt take much.

Uncle qrow was my only saving grace.

He smiled at me. "Thanks for the food, kiddo. You're getting better at cooking." He gave me a gentle pat on the head as i nodded, as he whispered to me.

"Happy birthday, kid. Tonight we escape."

Once they were all done i grabbed the plates, walking to the hardwood kitchen, only to be tripped by yang, though thankfully i kept the plates off the ground so they didnt shatter.

She gave a glare, before kicking me in the stomach. "Know your place, Scum. Since its your birthday, i'll go a little easy on you."

The adults didnt even care to remember. How thoughtful of them.

"You wouldnt know the difference between our punishments, they take it easy on you, Yang-"

"DO YOU HAVE PERMISSION TO SPEAK MY NAME?!" she kicked me in the face, before the stomach again. She then spat on me, as she walked away, with me slowly standing. "On seconds thought..."

She grabbed the plates out of my hands before dropping them as i watched them shatter.

"Daaaad! Aster broke the plates!"

I glared. "You bitch." Were the only words i could choke out.

She gasped, putting on some fake tears, running to Tai. "He swore at me, and broke the plates!" She sobbed into his shirt as he sighed. "Summer, could you get yang?"

Summer walked in, picking yang up, being gentle with her, shushing her tears as tai picked me up by the throat as i gave a smirk.

"Now i know where yang gets all that attitude from-"

"DID I GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO TALK, YOU LITTLE SHIT?!" he punched me, and Hard. Qrow walked in. "Tai!" He was furious. I smiled.

Qrow smacked the shit out of Tai. "Leave the kid alone, i watched it happen, yang broke the plates!"

"Cut the bullshit!" Tai dropped me, as i slowly began to crawl away in the chaos, and out the door, as a raven flew down before landing.

"A-auntie i-" she simply picked me up. "TAI! im taking this shithead for a walk." She walked to the forest, as i was dropped in the middle of the forest.

"Dont come back for a week, if you last that long." With that she dissapeared.

I gahthered berries, reveling in my sorrow as i heard a noise.

A low, sinister growl.

A Grimm.

I turned to see a beowolf, as it grabbed me, dragging me to a cave in the depths of the nearby mountain. I scrambled out of its grasp as it turned to face me.

There were hundreds of them as i scrambled to my feet, beginning to climb up.

I need to ascend.

Unlock my aura, or my semblance, something, anything!

A beowolf jumped up, clawing my legs but not too badly. another attacked my back.

"Anyone- SOMEONE PLEASE- HELP ME- I DONT WANNA DIE!!"

I worked so hard towards freedom, away from them- i dont wanna die yet! I still have so much to do, so much i wanted- needed to know!

Tiime itself seemed to slow, as i scaled the rockface, barely making it out.

What an odd feeling in my body... its warm... but icy.

I pulled myself out of the cave.

CONGRATULATIONS. YOU HAVE STARTED THE ROAD TO ASCENSION. WE LOOK FORWARDS TO YOUR COMPLETION.

Its been 4 years since then. Im 14 now.

"Aster!" I walked downstairs, yang trying to trup me as i simply hopped over her foot. She punched me in tbe back hard, before kicking me in the stomach and stomping away. I stood up, as tai glared at me.

"Do the damn dishes before i have to beat you again!-"

"Yeah yeah, whatever old man." Raven walked up to me, smacking me as tai kicked me in the gut.

"You dont talk back to the man who raised you like that, you sack of shit."

"I know. Tai didnt raise me. Qrow did. You dont make up to be half the man qrow is when hes drunk." I gave a sharp retort,  only to be stabbed by raven. "SHUT THE FUCK UP! IF YOU HATE US SO MUCH, WHY DONT YOU JUST LEAVE FOR THE FOREST FULL OF GRIMM!?"

"Oh, really? And have a childs death be on your hands? I dont think that'd look too good on your record, rae." That shut hef up real quick. Tai gave me a swift punch to the gut. "Why dont you go off yourself somewhere in the forest, you little shithead? Or do you wanna try and play adult and move out?"

"I'd take the latter any day-"

"DONT TALK BACK TO ME BITCH!" He kicked me hard, cracking a rib. "Now do the dishes."

"......Kay." i did the dishes, walking back to my room.

Sheesh. Guess i better leave a note for Qrow and Ruby.

Over the years, ruby realized what was happening and how bad it was, and honestly i dont blame her at all. She was only a kid, and she still is, she's 12, but i forgive her. She didnt know at the time what was wrong and was always reluctant to follow tai's orders but did them out of fear and it being nessescary for her own safety.

Yang, however.... she knew. So she can rot, along with tai and raven.

I finished packing up what little things i had, as i walked to the door. Raven and tai glared at me.

"The fuck are you doing, aster?" Tai asked, getting off of his ass for once.

"Leaving like you wanted me to." Raven immediately drew her sword, charging at me.

Raven charged,tip of her sword first as i dodged around it to the side, palm striking her swordthough she did cut my arm, as the blade broke. I grabbed the broken peice, throwing it at her, as she dodged it, though it seemed to be a bit of a troubling situatuon for her, as i dodged tai's fist, returning a strike of my own to his gut. And then my eye started to burn. My bright, silver eyes, one of them began to burn, as i dropped to my knees.

THIS IS ASCENSION. WE ARE GIVING YOU OUR MARK. MAY YOU BE EVER IN FAVOR.

I stood again, grabbing my things, throwing the note for qrow and ruby onto the table, sprinting out of the door, running as fast as i could.

I ran until my knees gave out as i tripped... and laughed.

Finally... after ten years... i made it out.

I was finally able to smile, to laugh. To be myself, not some slave.

Not a punching bag.

A beowolf sprinted towards me, jaws agape. I tried to block it, losing an arm in the process. I screamed my lungs out, ascending my healing factor further as the bleeding stopped, but there would be no way for me to get it back. I ran again.

And kept running north. I didnt know where i was going, i just knew i needed to leave... until i found a bullhead.

"Next stop..... Vale."
