Prologue

"It's quiet. Too quiet."

No sound could be heard; the summer crickets had ceased their constant chatter and the birds were nowhere to be seen. The gentle summer breeze swayed the trees of the apartment courtyard, flowing through your short navy locks.

"I can't sense his soul." Your partner muttered before moving silently behind the bush she was crouched behind.

Frowning, you shifted to readjust your weapon, aiming at the figure slowly wandering around the courtyard. You could feel it yourself, the overwhelming sense of presence from the male. It wasn't like any other you had ever encountered before.

Through the scope, you witness the male wander the rocky path as his body swayed from side to side. Hands dangling lazily on his sides, his face blocked out by the dark shadows casted by the moonlight.

The courtyard was massive. It had five rocky paths which all lead to the centre. In the middle sat a gorgeous Japanese maple, its leaves burnt to a crisp due to the daytime sunlight.

"Screw it. I'm getting impatient." Before you can process what your partner has said, she popped into your view in the scope. Her metal shield was sitting securely around her wrist as she prepared herself to attack.

It was silent between the two of you once again and you didn't dare break it. You could hear Zel's calm breathing through the earpiece, signalling to you that she was concentrating.

You tilted your neck and cracked it, having it release a 'pop' like sound before letting out a deep breath restlessly. Something didn't feel right and you couldn't shake off the feeling. The man walking down below you was no normal classed creature. From what you could see he looked like one but what you were sensing held a different story.

The creaking of the sliding door behind you knocked you back to reality, breaking your train of thought as a cold tip was placed on your shoulder blade.

"ZEL STOP! WE AREN'T ALONE." In one swift movement, you let go of your beloved sniping rifle and pulled out a throwing knife from your belt. Aiming the weapon towards the mysterious figure standing behind you. Upon turning around your eyes met with dark ones, matching yours in colour. Their gaze burning holes into your own as you fired back an equally challenging glare.

A grunt of pain was released from the other side of the earpieces, followed by the clang of Zel's shield.

So you were right.

Your attention was brought back to the figure standing in front of you when he adjusted his grip on his crossbow. Your eyes followed his action, landing on the beautifully crafted weapon.

Damn you were a sucker for these type of things. The stock of the bow was glistening in the moonlight which you swear you could see your own reflection in. Not to mention the lights that dimly lit up the figure's hand on the foregrip. It was indeed a beautifully crafted weapon. Your eyes finally landed on the logo sitting at the edge of the foregrip. It was delicately edged into the black metal and you could recognise that symbol no matter how shiny or faded it may be. This only calmed your nerves.

"J'ai jurer allégeance à ceux qui prennent position contre l'obscurité." You spoke slowly, warily lowing your knife from their neck. Your accent was definitely not one to behold but none the less, you knew the oath. It was the matter of if they knew it. "Diligence?" You softly mumbled something which resembled more of a question when a statement, shocking the figure.

They then pulled down the mask covering their face and revealed themselves.

"Did Virtue~"

"(Y/n) cover!" Zel's voice was so loud that even the male standing in front of you heard it; it travelled through the quiet atmosphere with ease. Quickly, you tucked the knife into your belt and resumed your sniping position.

Sucking in a deep breath, you composed yourself from the near heart inducing experience with the male. You looked through the scope, only to see three figures running the courtyard instead of two.

"Who's your friend?" You said whilst following the creature's movement.

Hearing nothing as a reply, you notice that Zel's movements were slower. The creature was not giving her a break either, it pounced at her once again. She held up her shield to block the attack that luckily never came. Instead, a sword was thrown straight into the creature's chest.

The creature screeched, letting out a human-like cry before he began to transform, revealing its true form. You had never seen anything like it before. Their skin was painted with grey dots and its purple bat wings spread well over three metres, tail closely matching in size.

"What the hell is that?" You breathlessly let out while examining the creature, eyes twinkling with fear.

"An Incubi." Tilting your head slightly to the side you remembered the name popping up in one of your father's lectures - If only you had actually paid attention to him for once.

Taking your silence as confusion he scoffed before shooting an arrow, only to have the demon block it with his large right wing.

He clicked his tongue with displeasure and turned to face you. "A demon who feeds off sexual pleasure from the living." Quickly summing it up for you he reloaded his weapon.

Now you remembered. Just the thought of this made you shiver in disgust.

The creature catapulted itself into the air, a strong gust of wind following behind it. "Finally free." It screeched before going to pull the blade out of his chest, his pure black eyes burning with fury. "Here I was daydreaming about the brilliant night I had with this one woman and now I'm being attacked? Let me teach you, humans, a lesson!" He then deviously smiled and thrust the blade straight towards the two ground fighters.

Acting immediately, Zel sprinted in front of the third figure with her shield and blocked them from the falling blade. After recovering a pout resonated on her face. "How the hell am I supposed to~" A frustrated sigh left your partners lips before she picked herself up from the floor.

"Stay here." The unknown figure's voiced. "Let us handle this. This is a higher classed demon." The person you presumed to be a male standing next to Zel drew out his second sword and twirled it in between his fingers, whilst stepping in front of Zel.

Jaw dropping in disbelief Zel coughed with annoyance. "Excuse you." Winding back her arm, she readied herself to throw her shield. "I'll have you know my partner is a champion classed sniper." And with that, she threw her shield up. The flat body allowed the metal shield to cut through the air with ease as it flew up and smashed the demon square in the face. With a satisfied smirk glued to her face, she turned to stick out her tongue at the male.

"And you?" A low chuckled was released from the unknown male before he sprinted across the grassy section of the courtyard. The hasty movements caused his hood to fall off his head, revealing his blue hair.

A huff was released from Zel and you only chuckled in response. "(Y/n), who are these people?" She sarcastically spat. Your partner then followed the operative and picked up her shield which landed on the rocky path.

"With Virtue." You tried to follow the path of the demon whilst it swerved the open air but it was more difficult then it seemed. You thought you didn't need your second rifle but it seems like you did.

"With Virtue?!" Halting her movement Zel turned to the balcony you were stationed at. Just now spotting the other figure standing next to you. "Who's your friend?"

"Diligence."

"DILIGENCE!?"

"Yeah, that's what I said. You must have hit your head pretty hard to repeat me twice." You gave up after tracking the demon for a few more seconds. It was simply too difficult to lock onto him with those gigantic wings on his back.

"Shut up." With one last glance, you picked up your snipe rifle. Giving up on all common sense you got rid of the bipod holding up your gun and aimed without any sort of stabilisation. If you had your other rifle it would have been much easier but you had to make do with what you had.

"Zel distract him so I can get him grounded. Let's see if we can get some answers from his sick bastard." Your finger twitched on the trigger, getting a feel of it before pulling it, shooting a bullet directly through the demon's wing.

It realised a groan of pain before diverting its attention to you. "Wrong choice girly." He then changed course. Instead of attacking Zel and the male in the courtyard he was now heading straight for the balcony. "I can't wait to have fun with you."

Shit, you did not think this through. Sometimes you hated your brain for thinking up of stupid ideas. Cringing with hatred you quickly lugged the rifle into your back and turned around to retreat into the safety of the apartment. "Shit shit shit." You mumbled with haste while trying to locate your discarded bipod.

The male beside you only watched with amusement. How did you manage to get a champion title if you didn't even know what an Incubi was? He then turned his attention back to the demon flying full throttle in both of your directions.

Finally locating the bipod you picked it up and turned around to pull the male into the apartment with you but he wouldn't budge.

Somehow, Zel and you had formed four person team with the unknown Virtue operatives. You tugged harder on his arm but he simply held up his crossbow, the demon now inches away from the two of you. "Try to have some dignity. I know your demon and all but man you're one thirsty hoe." And with that, he shot the creature in the other wing. Halting the demon in its tracks, its wings locked up. Causing it to begin its descent down to the courtyard below.

"I mean sure." You muttered, stunned.

"No time to gawk let's go." In a matter of moments the two of had made your way down to the courtyard, reuniting with your fellow partner.

The demon had fallen to the left of the courtyard. It's large body flattened out a large patch of burnt grass. The blue-haired male from before had his leg on top of the hell beast, sharp side of his blade at the creature's neck. Quickly, you and the male made your way over to them.

"Tell me why you are here." He snarled, voice laced with anger whilst the heel of his shoe dug deeply into the creature's stomach.

"Or what?" It chocked out, a teasing tone lacing its voice.

"I will kill every single one of your kind." You didn't know why the creature found it so funny because it burst out onto full demonic laughter. Your eyes followed the blade of the male, another beautifully crafted weapon. Immediately spotting another symbol; patience.

"You realise what you are striving for is impossible. There is no such thing as perfect." Frowning you crossed your arms in front of your chest. You were never good with riddles.

"Shut your trap and answer him."

"And what, Kill us all? You really think that will stop us? We are creatures of death for hell's sake. You, humans, are so stupid with your utopian ideas. You really thi~"

"Taehyung let's go." The male standing on top of the demon pulled his sword out just as the creature turned into darkness. He then turned around and faced the other male. "Something tells me that this is just the beginning."
