Chapter 21: Deception

All was silent as you readied yourself for her next move. There she stood, metres on top of the two of you as her fingertips danced in the air elegantly almost like she was summoning something. In a flash, a long staff appeared by her side. Your mouth was slightly ajar at the sight. You hated to admit it but the weapons from in the 5th Dimensions were beautifully crafted. Small vines of black ivy could be seen encasing the body of the staff all the way up to the top. They stopped and arched up to form some sort of point. The vines kept a glowing purple gem in place with two smaller ones hovering around it. The glowing of the magical stone could be seen even under the bright rays of the sun. The staff was elegant and somewhat matched the way the female standing in front of you held herself.

The female smashed the bottom of her staff lightly onto the white wall, snapping you out of your trance. You watched as her gaze traced the pathway leading to the exit of the alleyway with only one thing in mind. Her tongue glided across the bottom of her lip and before you knew it, she was now hovering directly over the two of you with her staff underneath and keeping her afloat.

You had never fought against a magical from the Underworld before other than demons and you knew for sure this girl was not a demon. She held no features which you could use to make connections back to the vile creatures of the Underworld. So you didn't know how your weapons would react once you inflict a wound. Jungkook, however, would be fine. Your weapon was of a much lower class than his or in fact any of the Seven Virtues. Their weapons could be compared to the ones used in the heavens. Yours was only created out of metal found in the Overworld and only drew energy from the spiritual energy around you. Each one of the Seven Virtuous weapon's was relics of old times. Each bestowed with the pure soul and power of the Seven Virtuous Archangels themselves - that was if what Jimin had told you was correct.

"Jungkook, (Y/n), do you have a visual of the infiltrator?" You hear Taeyong say, tone laced with urgency. The two of you immediately sprinted after the female who was now gliding her way through the alleyway on top of you.

"Yes, what's up Taeyong?" You reply, breath uneven due to the pace the two of you were running at.

"Make sure they don't come anywhere near us, the citizens are crowding and making it difficult for us to push past."

"On it." Pulling his gun out of the holster, Jungkook aimed the barrel of the gun at the moving figure and pulled the trigger. Sadly, it did not hit her as she quickly changed directions to stop herself from flying straight into a lamp post. However, she did see the laser bullet rebound off of the pole and this caused her to turn around.

"Pesky demon hunters." Turning around to face the two of you, the female was taken by surprise when Jungkook began rapid fire. To prevent Jungkook's bullets from hitting her, she jumped off her staff and landed on the floor with a thud. She then proceeded to spin her staff around in circles, before banging it onto the floor, within an instant, a wine coloured forcefield made of a large silhouette which heavily resembled a fox surrounded her figure.

As a result of using her magic, she had halted all her movement in one spot, this allowed you to catch up to her.

"Pesky witch." You spat back before lunging forward and drawing your throwing knife out of your shoe. You threw the knife sitting in your left hand towards her. A frown made its way onto your face as you witness her easily stopped its movements with a simple flick of the finger.

"Enchantress." She corrected after the dropping the knife, a loud clunk following afterwards.

You let out a growl of anger before jumping up and swinging your leg forward to kick her in the gut. She quickly blocked your attack by summoning the same forcefield were your leg was meant to come in contact with.

You acted swiftly and pulled out your rifle from behind and used the handle of the weapon to slam it down onto her other side. You were too fast for her to block so once the heavy weapon came in contact with her stomach she was let out a pain-filled cough.

Somehow, she had enough time to cover her mouth as the cough escaped her lips and you saw a small trickle of red blood tint her delicate palm. She jumped back to gain some distance between your attack causing you to snicker.

She wasn't phased by your taunting though as it seems a smile was still plastered on her face. Clenching her fist together, you felt a sudden jolt of pain take over your burnt shoulder. You didn't want to give her the satisfaction of seeing you in pain so you gritted your teeth together and latched onto your shoulder.

With one hand on her staff which was propping her up and the other clutching her stomach, a wide grin spread across her lips once the area you hit her with began to glow. That only caused your wound to hurt even more. The pain was more unbearable than when you first got it.

She snickered and revealed her now healed stomach. She used her magic to reverse the healing of your wound and transferred it onto herself. You grounded your teeth together in anger just at the thought.

Hearing Jungkook's fast movements from behind, you briefly saw him as he sprinted past you. He shot you a worried look but you simply replied with a determined one. Joining his side, both of you began to attack again. However with her stomach now healed, she easily avoided Jungkook's punch by jumping up and landing on top of her staff. She was yet again floating and you don't think she would be coming down any time soon but that was until an arrow pierced through her shoulder blade, causing her to descend back down onto the ground an agonising scream escaped from her lips.

 Your brows creased with confusion.

"What happened?" You hear Jimin yell from the other side of the line but nor you or Jungkook replied as the both of you were too busy trying to figure out where the attack had come from.

You then witness another arrow soar through the sky but instead of hitting the witch she caught it. You quickly traced the path of the object and it landed on the top of a building. The black steel body of the arrow glistening on the hot summer sun. The wielders hair colour closely matched the colour of the brick building as it was deep red.

"You didn't think we would let you guys do the mission on your own did you?" A new voice spoke, chiming into your earpiece.

"Hoseok?"

"We?"

"The one and only." After Hoseok disappeared from the rooftop of the building, you shot Jungkook a puzzled expression. He simply smiled and sprung into action, attacking the witch now she that she was occupied by the sharp object in her shoulder.

You hear the witch let out a shaky breath when pulling out the arrow, red blood oozing out of her wound. The sight of it made you wince but it didn't seem to bother her as the wound had closed up in a matter of seconds.

Moving behind her, Jungkook spun his gun around so that the handle was now facing the female before he brought the metal weapon down across the side of her face. Going in for another blow, the Virtue operative, however, was stopped abruptly by her magic staff. In one swift movement, she had him harshly come into contact with the concrete wall of the alleyway.

You immediately moved into to help him out. Crouching over and heaving him into a sitting position, you patted his back lightly whilst he coughed violently.

Your grip on your small throwing knife tightened and you turned around with the intention of giving the witch a piece of your mind but it seemed the other operative was already on it. He casually glided into the scene. His bright hair flouncing as he spun around and kicked the girl back from coming in contact with Jungkook again.

The witch grunted from pain from the attack and charged forward with her staff in hand. The tip of the staff was headed right for Hoseok's side but he easily dodged the weapon before locking the witches head inside of his bow, the sharp string now cutting into her neck.

"Why are you here?" Hoseok growled lowly.

"As a distraction." She managed to say before Hoseok tugged harder at the bow cutting her off mid-sentence.

"A distraction for what?" And then, as if it was timed perfectly, a collection of petrified screams echoed through the city.
