Chapter 2: The Beginning

"What even is this level?" Groaning in frustration you tried to keep your distance from the robot marching around the training deck, it's spear swung furiously only in your direction. You had been darting around the circular training deck for nearly five minutes now in the defence. Well, you were always in defence considering your position as a sniper but this was just ridiculous, you should have been able to get a shot in by now.

"I don't know. Level nine?"

"NINE?" Your face contorted in horror before you had turned around to shoot an expression to your father which read; do you want to kill your one and only daughter?

You regretted your decision to turn around because the robot had managed to back you into a corner. You had no chose but to discard your beloved sniper and opt for using your throwing knives which sat on your thighs at the ready.

The robot pointed the spear forward and you barely dodged it. You quickly ducked down and threw your sniper at its legs causing it to lose its balance. This gave you the opportunity to slide in between its legs and gains some distance between the two of you. You sprinted to the middle of the circle all while both of your hands went to grab the throwing knives. You poked your finger into the handle of the small weapon while the diamond shaped blade was pointed in the robot's direction.

"Come at me you piece of scrap metal." The few seconds of confusion the robot experienced allowed you to catch your breath. But it quickly locked itself onto you once again and took long strides to your position.

In a blink of an eye, it had swung it's spear downwards causing you to block the attack with your knives. The spear rested a few inches away from your face, the only thing stopping it from touching you being the small crossed-over blades. It took every ounce of your energy to break the clash of the three weapons, as soon as you did you jumped back and threw a blade onto the shoulder of the robot preventing it from moving its right arm. It may have seemed like a success but that only left you with one small blade as protection.

"Well shit." You raised your small knife and eyed it before returning your gaze to the robot. You hated to end training sequences without completing it but you might not have a choice this time. You honestly had no idea what was going through your fathers' mind when he set the sequence level in the first place.

Your eyes widen in fear when the robot lunged at you with the six-foot-long spear and you raised your puny knife for protection before yelling; "Surrender." At your command, the robot fell limp on to the floor, the loud sound created by the robot signalling to you that the sequence had ended.

"Oh come on you could have taken it." Your father exclaimed from outside of the training barrier.

Your jaw dropped in both disbelief and exhaustion when the barriers of the circle disintegrated, your body also joining the robot and laying limp on the floor. "Dad, need I remind you that you only have one daughter?"

Your father only laughed in response.

You let out a deep breath before sitting up from the floor, your right hand dropping the throwing knife and brushed through your short locks. With nothing to do you averted your eyes to watching your father take a seat at the table in the far left corner of the training room, it was the training sequence control panels. However, you couldn't identify exactly what he was doing due to your blurry ass vision.

"Did you hear about the return of The Seven Virtues?" You said slowly and warily, maybe you could get some information out of your dad now the presence of the unit was basically made known amongst the operatives.

"Do you mean the weapons themselves or the wielders?" You lifted yourself off of the floor, knowing very well that your trainer would have scolded you for sitting down right after a training sequence if he was here. Something about the blood pooling in the lower parts of your body.

"Both." You walked over to the row of benches and grabbed your drink bottle and circular framed glasses.

"No, I wasn't aware. I mean there was no means of calling them back, the demonic activity has nearly been zero to none since I retired." You then took a seat on a stool next to your father, glasses now resting on the bridge of your nose.

Your father leaned back onto the wall behind him and cross his arms over his chest, confused.

"That's the thing." You began. "Zel and I were out on our usual patrol shifts and we came across an Incubi ." Feeling bothered by your hair, you bunched all up so you could tie it into a low ponytail yet some still managed to escape and fall to the front of your face, forming bangs.

"Incubi? Geezz I haven't heard that creatures name in a while." Your father sighed, adding to your suspicions. "And it has been twenty years since I retired."

"Do you think that maybe something is...going on?" Trailing off your father shook his head all while readjusting himself into a more comfortable position on the bench.

"I don't think we should be too worrie~"

The metal door slid open quietly but it didn't fail to catch both yours and your father's attention. In entered your fellow frantic blonde friend, her hair dishevelled and facial expression in pure panic.

"(Y/n)! (Y/n)!" Immediately you jolted out of your seat with widened eyes as the blonde latched onto your shoulders and began shaking you back and forth. "Rumours have been going around that all champions and~" Zel began only to be interrupted by the headquarters loudspeakers.

"All virtues and champion classes operatives please make your way to the briefing rooms." Blinking twice you watched Zel as her eyes bored holes into yours, fear written all over her face. Your father also had his eyes glued on your whilst Zel's hand fell from your shoulders.

"I guess our suspicions shouldn't be taken lightly." Your lips pressed into a thin line, a shiver running down your spine due to the tense atmosphere that had just risen.

"I'm sure it's just patrol schedule changes." You mumbled, trying to not only reassure your father and friend but yourself as well.

"There is only one way to find out." Zel tilted her head towards the door whilst you gathered your bottle and jacket. During your exit out the sliding door, you sent a small unsure smile and saluted them before your figure could no longer be seen.

Feeling the cool corridor breeze hit your dampened skin you quickly went to put on your jacket. You were walking a fairly fast walking pace but seeing your fellow champions sprint pass your calm figure you decided to also sprint yourself to the briefing room.

Arriving at the glass sliding doors, you swiped your card to open up the room. When the doors open, it revealed many people you quickly recognised and others you had never encountered before - it probably had something to do with the increase of operatives.

The room that you were all told to meet in was built to house a large conference table for about twenty people but a few operatives who had come late had to stand - including you - everyone was here. Besides, most of the seats at the conference tables were taken up by head officers including the director of the Korean branch who also happened to be your trainer. This was definitely a large indicator that this meeting was not just 'patrol schedule changes.'

"Greeting operatives, I am sorry for the last minute call and I am sure you all have things to get back to but this meeting is a matter of great importance." Quiet whispers could be heard once the director paused. He sent you a small smile before continuing his panning gaze. "I am sure you all have noticed the increase of operatives recently and I doubt you all haven't noticed the spike in demonic activity."

So this was something more serious then you had thought and Zel was right; there was something happening behind the scenes.

Intentively, you leaned back onto the white wall with your arms crossed and brows frowned.

"We have yet to find the cause but this means you all have to pick up your game. Patrol schedules, partners and training schedules will be all changed and your shifts will dramatically increase. We need all the help we can get."

Okay, you were half right with the patrol changes.

"That is why we have called back the agencies best operatives. There have been a lot of rumours circling the agency about their presence and I am here now to confirm their presence." The director didn't need to introduce them as you were sure more then half of the agency body had heard of the return and now presence of the treasured fancy-smancy weapons and wielders; The Seven Virtues. You and Zel where right on the money. "Now with The Seven Virtues to also pick up shifts we will be posting the new partners, training and patrol schedules soon. This also means The champion intern program is going to be cut short."

Dam, this means Zel and you would no longer be going out on patrols together.

"That is all for now, you may be dismissed but make sure to look out for announcements as they will be posted shortly." As quickly as everyone arrived, they all filed out of the over packed briefing room within seconds. You stayed against the wall, waiting patiently for everyone to exit first.

"(Y/n)." Hearing someone call your name, you turned to face them.

"Ten." A fellow champion of yours, from V.I.R.T.U.E's Thai branch. His name is not really Ten, you have just come accustomed to calling him by his operative name as it was much shorter than his real name. You had partnered with the male in the past in a few patrols before internships began. His style of fighting was very agile and silent, it both matched yours and his fighting styles. As you were a long ranged operative he contrasted you much like Zel with a short ranged weapon style. His acrobatic movements allowed him to get close enough to the target without any sound, assassinating them with his sai skills.

"Bets on us being partnered up for patrols?" Sending you his signature side glance as he exited you shot him a grin.

"Pretty high, considering how much they liked us as a team in previous schedules." You had thought you would be last out, seeing as while you were talking to Ten it seemed the director and his colleges had also wandered out of the room. But when turning around your eyes met with three figures. The aura the three gave off alone made you freeze in the spot, it was probably enough to scare away a pack of Imps. Two, you quickly recognised to be the pair you had run into last night.

Ten seemed to have caught onto your lingering gaze as you accompanied him out of the room. "Three out of The Seven Virtues." He whispered in your ear, his tone now hushed and warry of operatives listening in around you. Ten was a cautious person and was quick to grab your arm, pulling you out of the room before you gained some attention.

You thanked him by nodding your head. "It seems so, I recognised the two we ran into last night." Out of the corner of your eye, you see them make their way out of the briefing room.

"So the rumours were true. I heard from Taeyong you had run into two members last night."

"Yeah, I guess rumours spread fast in V.I.R.T.U.E. I ran into Diligence and Patience last night." Ten and you had stopped walking once you had reached the training room you were in before being called to the briefing room.

"It's safe to presume the directors wouldn't have made the units presence public without something big happening we are yet to know about. This is basically V.I.R.T.U.E themselves waving a red flag for help." Nodding you immediately stopped yourself from speaking when a pair of operatives strolled past. You and Ten bawling holes into the back of their sculpts as they crossed paths with the two of you.

"Everyone is talking about it. It has been the main topic of every conversation I've been in." You continued after watching the operatives figures disappear down the corridor.

"Tell me~"

Interrupting Ten, a familiar sound of your watches echoed through the corridor. Assuming it was the new schedules and partners you peered over Ten's shoulder as he unlocked the device, projecting up a holographic screen.

"Well, that was fast." You murmured after Ten had opened up the document.

The raven-haired male only hummed in response as the both of you scanned the document table - in search for your names. The table felt like it was going on forever, the both of you occasionally frowned as you read the pairs. Some you knew was most definitely and others you would have never thought to be paired, though they did make sense.

Finally, you came across your name so you tapped into Ten's shoulder which signalled for him to stop scrolling. Next to your name read his, s sigh of relief leaving your lips once realising.

You felt relieved you were paired with Ten, he was honestly someone you had gotten used to working with from past experiences. Sometimes you found it a pain to work with partners without knowing them prior. In the past, V.I.R.T.U.E liked to experiment with different patrol partners - thinking it was a good idea - they soon learnt that it didn't work like that. So this patrol didn't seem so bad.

"I guess you were right." Adverting your gaze from the first column of the table to read the patrol time and zone the two of you had been assigned to.

"Dam (y/n), have you seen which zoned we've been placed in?" Shaking your head, Ten swiped his hand and opened up a map. But it was no normal map, the maps written into the V.I.R.T.U.E's system had added features. The maps were designed to help operatives find their zones and navigate different cities with ease according to V.I.R.T.U.E's own mapping system. You could not simply spot Paris or Sydney on the map, instead, all the countries were separated onto zones.

"Zone 101, right next to Zone 106...The zone a pair from The Seven Virtues are assigned to." And suddenly, you weren't so glad about your patrols.

.

I'm back again with a multi-fandom book. I love reading multi-fandom books and have written a few in the past. But recently my two new ones have only been one fandom-based (if that's a word?) so I wanted to bring it back. I hope you all like multi-fandom books as much as the next. I did this with Promise a while back and seemed to get positive responses so welcome NCT to Ascendant. ( Or just Ten for now ).
