Chapter 17: No pressure

Stepping out of the training deck, you slowly stagger your way to the collection of benches only to make it halfway before collapsing onto the floor in exhaustion. Your rifle fell loudly onto the floor next to you with a thud. Your legs were shaking and your lips dry from all the times you had licked them during the fight. You were not usually the one to sweat, you had been in countless exhausting situations but you never sweated. But today seemed to be a different story.

Your partner, however, was in much different shape... Jimin looked fine. He walked out of the duelling simulation without breaking a sweat. Whilst you were on the floor struggling to catch your breath Jimin had kindly placed your rifle in its case and put away his fan. Now you knew why the seven of them were so special, they were on an entirely different level.

"I thought we were taking it easy." You breathed out which earned a chuckle from Taeyong.

"It seems the Director had different plans."

The sight of your tied state made Jimin snicker so he reached over and handed you a water bottle. "Here." You nodded your head as thanks before bringing yourself to a sitting position. Jin and Jungkook were next to duel and you wouldn't dare miss it. Jimin too was eager to watch the match and hastily returned to plop himself onto the floor next to you.

After taking two large gulps of water you turned to the elder. "So by 'you could say that' you meant one of the seven?" You eyed him curiously, awaiting his response. You didn't quite understand why he didn't just tell you he was one of the seven back when you met at the library. It wasn't a big secret anymore considering everything that has unfolded in the past few days.

"Yeee...I'm not really a fan of broadcasting it." He replied before taking another sip from his bottle.

His statement only increased your confused state. Jimin really sure was something; he was kind, humble, rude, mysterious...the list goes on. You really couldn't figure him out no matter how hard you tried. As an operative, you were taught to profile people, to figure out what makes them tick. If you could figure out a component during a fight it would put you at a great advantage. But no matter how hard you tried you couldn't figure him out. It was like he was having an inner battle with how he wanted to present himself.

"And why is that?" You ask whilst tilting your head to one side.

"It's all people see. Once you introduce your rank amongst the agency the latter will either praise or shun you." Now you understood why. In fact, you felt slightly disgusted with yourself for trying to profile him in the first place. He was right, as soon as you introduced yourself as a champion the latter would immediately begin to suck up to you. If Zel introduced herself as a trainee she would be looked down upon. It reminded you of how Taehyung treated Zel on the battlefield. Now suddenly, you knew exactly how she felt. Jimin perplexed you and it made you want to learn more about him. It seems there was then meets the eye with him.

"I guess your right." You mumbled, your tone now solemn. You had brought up the subject in hopes of creating light and humorous conversation but it seems there was much more to it then simply Jimin being mysterious.

"Of course that's just my opinion." Sensing your solemn demeanour, Jimin quickly lifted it with a bright smile. There it was again, his adorable kind side. "Anyway, what did were saying at the library the other day?"

Starring at Jimin with a blank expression, it took a few seconds for you to finally remember what you have asked him the other day. What you had asked him back then wasn't very important, in fact, he would have probably thought you were crazy...now that you think about it. When previously seeing the virtue symbols, you couldn't but see animals within the intricate lines and swirls. Although if that was the case, then someone would have written it down in the book, you mean it was so obvious. "Nothing important."

"It must have been." Jimin insists, he was too nice for such a dangerous world.

"It's just..." Turning around, you gesture towards the weapon sitting on the bench, asking Jimin for permission to pick it up. You knew weapons are something very private and special to the wielder. You had once met a weapon wielder who prohibited all from touching his weapon, so after that incident, you always asked before picking it up.

Jimin nodded and you proceeded to put it up and gesture towards the symbol etched, Jimin was the wielder of kindness. The weapon itself wasn't what you'd typically call one either, kindness was actually split into two beautiful fans. You were so captivated by the beautifully made weapon to notice it getting hotter and hotter in your grab. It was only when the temperature became unbearable did you wince in pain.

Quickly taking the weapon off you, Jimin sent you an apologetic smile. "Sorry." Guess the weapon rejected your touch - that's what made them so special - only those who embody the virtue they present can wield them and to their full potential. The seven weapons can have more than one wielder but only one can unlock its full potential. "What did you want to show me?"

Rubbing your palm softly, you gestured for Jimin to open it up, revealing the symbol.

"You think each virtue has an animal counterpart?" Wincing at how you worded your theory, you looked over to Jimin with embarrassment.

Jimin was about to reply but he was cut short when a loud gasp of frustration left Jin's lips. "For the love of the Overworld." Jin cussed.

You whipped your head around to the direction of the operative to see him cornered by Jungkook. Jungkook smirked at his elder and tauntingly shifted forward which in turn caused Jin to jerk back and scoff. The pink-haired man's right heel was pushing against the force field encasing the training desk. One wrong move and Jin would loose.

"Jin, you really going to let the maknae get the best of you?" A new voice spoking, their voice was deep, gravelly and somewhat familiar.

You allowed your eyes to drift from Jin to the male leaning against the frame of the sliding door momentarily. Beginning at the soles of his shoes, you squinted your eyes and glared at the black leather, it was Diligence. You didn't even need to see the rest of his body as every single time you had encountered Diligence he was wearing black leather boots.

Diligence's voice gained Jin's attention which inevitably led him to lose. Jungkook immediately used the one second were Jin's attention was elsewhere to 'lightly' nudge the elder out of the barrier with his foot. Although the force was enough to cause Jin to fall to the floor with a loud thump.

'participant two surrenders'

"Hah!" Jungkook smirked at the elder before childishly, fist bumping the air in victory. "Not so smart now Mr Worldwide handsome."

Jin completely ignored the cheeky man in front of him and averted his eyes to the one leaning on the door behind him  "Min Yoongi. Look what the cat dragged in." Jin spat before shooting a deadly glare. Jin was clearly salty about his loss.

Yoongi sent back a slanted smile. "What? Don't give me that look." Pressing his lips into a thin line, Yoongi tried his best to hold in his laughter as he sauntered his way up to his fellow operative. "Good game." He mocked before offering Jin his hand.

Jin was quick to scowl after swatting Yoongi's hand away. Pushing himself up from the ground, Jin dusted off his pink hoodie. "Yoongi you...Imp."

And that was the moment where Yoongi, Jungkook and Jimin had given up and let themselves burst out into laughter.

"Did he just call you an Imp?"

"Is that all you could come up with?"

"That's just sad."

Imp; the lowest level of a demon, usually know for their idiotic actions on the streets of the 3rd Dimension. Usually used to insult someone of lesser intelligence.

Sighing, Yoongi resumed his position against the wall behind him, his facial expression now much more serious. "I'm just going to pretend you didn't say anything. I have a message from the Director," and with that, all the laughter in the room ceased. "The Director has strictly told you all to use the backdoor tonight." Yoongi crossed his arms over his chest and panned his gaze across the training desk, eyes meeting with each individual member of the team. "We can't risk you guys further injuring or getting injured." His eyes then hardened when they landed on you, Jungkook and Jimin. It was clear the last sentence was targeted at you three.

"Right, is the crowd outside really that bad?" Jimin asked, breaking the unsettling silence that seemed to have fallen. He was evidently very worried.

"Hmm. The Director is concerned." Yoongi responded quietly. Although his words were barely audible it was heard clearly to the rest of you, it caused you to gulp nervously. If the Director was worried then there really was a lot at stake tomorrow.

"No pressure." You murmured after your hand went to scratch the nape of your neck nervously.

Jungkook seemed to agree as his tongue glided across his inner cheek. A habit Jungkook formed to usually hide his nervousness. "Seriously." The younger added in disbelief.

Out of everyone in the room, you and he were the most inexperienced. It seems the pressure of the mission tomorrow was beginning to get to the both of you. You couldn't speak for Jungkook but you had only been on patrols which strictly included fighting low-level demons such as Imps. You hadn't even come in contact with an Incubi until last week so to say you where at a disadvantage would be an understatement. You couldn't begin to imagine what the ruler of the Underworld might have installed if they were planning to strike tomorrow. If they sent a fallen angel to destroy one building imagine what they would send to assassinate one of the Seven directors of V.I.R.T.U.E.

"It's just a precaution. Don't worry." Namjoon reassured whilst patting your shoulder lightly. "I'm sure the Director is just taking all necessary safety precaution to ensure it goes smoothly."

As much as you wanted to agree with him you couldn't knock out the sense of dread you felt. If it really was just 'safety precaution' would the director have gone through this much trouble and revealed the existence of the secret unit?

But none the less you smiled at the leader, at least he tried.
