CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE: INEVITABLE

[GEM]

The dragon's head was pierced with a familiar dagger that was thrown from the wall, sticking out of the side of it's head and saving Hiccup's life.

Faelan rolled and leapt from the wall straight down onto the back of an assassin who thought he was hidden, slamming him to the ground with his blade in his back before dodging the attempt on his life from an axe. But the soldier that tried this was shot in the head by one of their archers and he then used the body in a pinch to block the fire of a Nadder's tail spikes that impaled the limp soldier instead of the rogue. He let the corpse fall and he ran ahead towards the beast that did this, sticking to its blind spot when he moved in a fast and agile way. He did a rolling dive and sliced the dragon's ribcage, causing it to whirl around fast and face him. But Faelan grabbed his wing and slung his body aside before he could be blasted in the face with its fire breath.

He then jumped onto the beast's back using his blades to latch onto it but the dragon ran in response, barrelling through the other men and Greenhood yanked on his blades to steer it right into another dragon that was about to blast fire onto a group of Vikings mid brawl, knocking it over as both beasts fell clumsily together.

Uriah slid down the side of the steps and did a roll when he landed on the ground, swiping one of the soldier's legs with his axe as he was fighting one of his allies and his head hit the rubble.

The Irishman then stood to slice upwards, getting the chin of another that was about to cut him down with a sword before he kicked the bleeding soldier's body back. He wasn't even able to focus on the assassins as his original plan, only seeing enemy after enemy in need of killing here and there as he tried to save everyone he could, his mind moving at an incredibly fast pace.

He ducked when a dragon blew a hole in the wall near him, rubble flying past his right ear and he turned when the beast came through, throwing his axe forward with all his strength as it hit the eye of the dragon and caused it to screech in pain. But he had to run and slide under its head to pull his weapon free, yanking the Nightmare's body down with it and allowing Moira to fire between its horns to finally kill it.

As Moira was firing arrows at unsuspecting dragons and soldiers below her, she suddenly whirled around when an assassin was at her back, looking into the cold eyes of the killer for a split second before a sword was plunged into the neck of the man and he was sent down the roof tumbling.

Yrsa, who had thrown the weapon, jumped down onto the rooftop from the corpse of a dragon she had hitched a ride with and said to Moira, "Grab your arrows and point them that way, princess," breathlessly, gesturing to the huge dragon that was still attacking their men at the wall.

[MELODY]

Moira watched the body of the soldier drop before she raised an eyebrow at Yrsa. "..Don't call me Princess.." she said with attitude as she put one of Eino's explosive arrows on her bow and aimed it for the dragon's eyes. Hoping to blind it she let it fly towards the dragon as it exploded on impact making the beast stumble and roar out in pain. She had hit it directly in one of its eyes.

[GEM]

"Good. Now do that six more times," she said before running and jumping off the edge of the building to land on a soldier, doing a roll before she pulled out a dagger and fought him when he got to his feet again.

When Moira looked at her quiver she saw she only had two more explosive arrows left and three more poison arrows. She would have to try the normal ones on this beast's multitude of eyes if she was going to blind it.

[MELODY]

Moira sighed irritated as she watched her leave before she turned to the dragon again. She had to be strategic in what she used the last of those arrows for. "Great.." she mumbled as she put a normal arrow on her bow string. Blinding it wouldn't be enough but it would be a start. She waited for the right moment to fire again as it turned its head her way roaring furiously. That's when a harpoon hit the beast's wing pulling at it. Kahu was the one who had fired it. He tried to distract it to give her time to hit it. Moira immediately took that change to aim for the eyes the beast had left.

[GEM]

Just before the first arrow could leave her bowstring, the powerful shot of lava from an Eruptodon blasted a Viking and the shot incinerated the bottom of the house she was on, the supports cracking as she lost balance, the house coming down beneath her feet fast.

[MELODY]

Moira's eyes widened as she felt the house slipping away from under her. "S-Shite!" She quickly jumped off the roof but with landed with a hard and painful landing on the ground. But she got up as quickly as she could hoping she didn't lose too much arrows as she made her way to another house. But her way was blocked when that one was blasted to pieces as well in front of her. She shielded her eyes from the bright light as she watched it go up in flames. With her mind racing she tried to decide a next step in this chaos.

[GEM]

The huge monster of a dragon bent back and turned to look at Kahu, roaring as the lighting cracked behind its enormous form, making the man feel like a speck of dust compared to it. But before the dragon could end him, the body of another grasped the slick flesh of the beast; a long snake-like figure with pitch black scales and a head that was only a mouth as it bit its razor sharp teeth into the side of the dragon and caused it to roar in fury.

Uriah's face was covered in blood as he jammed a sword into an attacker's stomach and widened his eyes when he saw Gregor be cut down by another one of Mora's men. He shoved the body of the one he was fighting aside and charged to throw his sword through the air at the one that killed his friend but he was too angry for a good aim and it missed him just barely. That didn't slow him down as he tackled the man, the axe with Gregor's blood on it flying across the ashen ground. He punched the soldier's face in, not caring if his hands stung with pain at each blow as his gloved knuckles slammed against his face repeatedly, slinging blood and even teeth as he was beaten to death.

Stoick grabbed the body of a dark soldier and threw him, catching a spear through his body that would have hit Stoick and he ducked when a swordsman tried to decapitate him, taking the man by the throat and slamming his body down against a chunk of stone rubble to break his head open.

He took an arrow into the shoulder, the tip barely breaking skin through his armor as he put up his sword to block a hatchet thrown his way, the blades making a loud sound as the enemy's weapon was deflected completely and he charged ahead, picking up a shield and throwing it horizontally, the metal and wooden disk hitting the back of the one running away before he blocked the surprise blow of one of Mora's rogues. He was able to keep up with the speed as he blocked the next hit and the next, grabbing ahold of the lad's arm and slicing it clean off with his sword before smashing the pummel against his head to finish him.

Stoick turned when he saw a speedstinger headed for him with its mouth wide open. But before it could even get to him, the huge body of a dragon landed and crushed it as it slid against the ground and finally came to a stop, Stoick looking at the assassin that was on the dragon's back with his dagger stuck between its shoulder blades. He pulled out his weapon and only locked eyes with the chief briefly as he stood up, before throwing the dagger and impaling the soldier behind Stoick, then pulling out blades from his arm bracers and turning to join the fight.

Just as there was no mercy in his darkened eyes, Uriah stood when more were surrounding him, exhaustion being pushed aside by the adrenaline that came with the will to live and inflict revenge. He grabbed the fallen soldier's axe and missed an arrow as he did, lifting it to block the sword of another, kicking his shin hard and then hooking the blade in the crook of the axe's beard and yanking the sword from the attacker's hand. He smashed his face in with the blade and the next arrow that came his way skid his shoulder plate, getting lodged in the leather but not breaking the man's flesh. Just as he turned to throw his axe the man was eaten by a black and yellow dragon and slung the man's body viciously until he was broken in two pieces and Uriah turned around to see an assassin suddenly fall dead, someone of small stature moving like a shadow through the battlefield.

Tuffnut swung his halberd around and sliced the chest of an enemy.

"Tuffnut lookout!" Snotlout's voice said behind him but he whirled around to see a sword blade suddenly stick through the mouth of the attacker that was flanking him and the body fell forward in a pool of blood, revealing Snotlout as the wielder.

"Do you really think that was enough time for me to react?!" Tuff demanded but then he was suddenly yanked back and fell on his rear before a Rumblehorn could run him over as it charged at him from the left.

Melody had stumbled to her back as she was the one who saved him and Snotlout was about to ask her where she came from but the dragon was turning to try and blast them with fire when its charge failed.

Tuffnut threw his weapon but it was knocked off the side of the horn. "Shite!" he cursed.

"Move!" Snotlout shouted and the three of them scattered to miss the shot of fire from its mouth. Melody skid on one knee and sprinted towards the beast, getting an idea as she slid on its right side when it tried to charge again and used her curved blade to slice down its side just underneath its armored plates, causing it to tumble forward clumsily like a flipped rhino. She turned with wide eyes, the other two men surprised at her ability to do that.

But Snotlout shook his head and took his sword, stabbing down the dragon's jaw to finish it.

As the Kraken was roaring in pain from Umbra's attack, Kahu used this distraction to climb up to the wall, starting to run down it as he ducked from a soldier and shoved him over the edge as he continued to charge. He grabbed a spear from the carcass to his left and sped up, running with determination as the dragon lowered its head towards the wall. He then leapt from the side with his spear held high, his eyes making its mark on the top of the beast's head.

Yrsa looked up just as this happened and her eyes widened.

But the dragon opened its mouth before he landed and he instead he fell into it with the spear wedging between the roof and tongue, blade sticking into the flesh of the dragon's jaw, its mouth pried open now with Kahu hanging off the spear, dangling over the dragon's huge abyss of a throat.

Yrsa panicked and whacked the soldier she was fighting with a spear before running for the wall.

Kahu struggled, gripping the wooden pole with panic on what to do as the dragon jerked around, making it harder to hold on. But he then began to notice the middle was splintering and he grit his teeth before clutching both sides and flipping to kick the center of it, the pressure causing the wood to slap and he clutched the side that was stuck in the roof as he yanked free the other and used all of his strength to jam it through the flesh of its mouth and to its brain.

Yrsa got to the wall just in time to see the dragon fall back slowly and crash into the sea, forcing up waves in all directions in impact. She had to duck and cover when a dragon blasted the wall with fire but she got back up as the carcass of the enormous monster they were fighting was sinking into the cold water, her eyes searching for the—

A grunting noise got her attention and she saw him climbing up the wall to her left, his hand gripping the edge of the stone. "Well you just going to sit there or help me woman?" he demanded.

She tried not to show relief in her smirk before she gave him a hand.

[MELODY]

In the midst of all this death and chaos Moira had finally found a new spot on one of the last buildings standing. She tried to keep concentrated and make good decisions on where she would use her arrows on. But that was difficult as she had no view of where everyone was. Which made her starting to panic as she desperately tried to keep as much as their people alive as she could from there.

[GEM]

As she nocked an arrow and pulled the string back, she tried to concentrate despite everyone moving so fast, and let the arrow fly, the tip piercing through the head of a smaller dragon that a Viking had grappled but was about to bite him. The Viking was free to then fight soldiers around him and Moira nocked another arrow.

She took down soldiers left and right with her sniping but she was running out of ammunition. Finding just one arrow left, it was an explosive one.

Mora's army had completely taken over the wall and Yrsa and Kahu had to get out of there when they were outnumbered. Yrsa saw a barrel of oil that was planted there on a platform used to drench it in case the worst should happen, she supposed. So she took an axe and flipped it in her hand before slamming the blade against the wood and popping a gash in it, sending oil onto the whole stone ground of the wall under their feet before making herself scarce.

Eino slid down the tail of a dragon and grasped the hands of an injured soldier of Mora's to put a sphere of glass in it. "Hold this for me, will yuh lad?" he asked as he slipped away and the bomb exploded, sending fire and shrapnel into the man and his surrounding companions.

He was against the wall as he felt something drip onto his shoulder. Feeling it in his fingers he realized it was flammable oil. "Hm. I can work with this," he said to himself before taking a bottle and tossing it up in his hand once. He then ran along to where some of Mora's men were taking cover, along with their archers. "Hey jackasses! Hold yuh breath!" he said and threw the bottle across the ground, it exploding in multiple places and sending the whole area smothered in green smoke.

Moira heard this and she turned, her eyes getting wide before she quickly nocked her arrow and pulled the string back, firing for where the green smoke ended and the tip buried into the leg of a soldier before it exploded, sending blasts of fire everywhere, the smoke igniting in a trail until it reached the oil and sent the entire wall in flames, roasting the men there alive in massive battlefield wide carnage.

Runa looked up as she saw his happen, impressed with her. She then ran and threw her dagger ahead to slide under a dragon that spotted her before it could kill her, the first dagger burying into it's side but her second weapon she used to slice open its abdomen, letting out the dragon's innards before she flipped and took her other blade free to fight soldiers under the house where Moira was.

[MELODY]

As she put her bow on her back and pulled out her dirk Moira noticed some of them climbing up to her. She kicked one of them in his face off the roof causing him to fall on top of others before she got off the house herself. She ducked for the blade of a sword aimed for her throat. She then twirled around holding her dirk backwards as she slit open the abdomen of her attacker making him drop his sword.

[GEM]

Runa slashed the calves of Moira's next opponent, making him drop to his shins as Moira finished him with a quick slice to the throat. The small assassin moved fast and rolled, ducking from a blade that would have otherwise cut her stomach open and she sliced the thrashed the backside of the soldier with her dagger, crippling him before she threw her other blade, it sticking into the chest of a dragon that was headed for Moira, causing it to stumble and miss her but it was still alive as it faced the princess.

[MELODY]

As it charged a shot she quickly moved out of the way. She then slid on her knees as she got close enough to grab on the dagger's handle and yanked at it creating a large gash making the dragon roar out in pain as it fell on it's side. She quickly stood up and finished it off by stabbing it in the side of its head. As she pulled her blade out she had to turn around to block the next strike from a soldier coming at her with an axe. She had to use both hands to try pushing him back as he was taller than her and used his strength to push down at her causing her own blade to go in the direction of her throat. She quickly kicked him against his knee making him lose balance as she used that to push him back making him fall back. She then stabbed him into his chest and twisted her blade making the soldier's body go limp.

[GEM]

Runa had an incredible way of fighting, using her small size and speed to her advantage. She might not beat any of these men in a fist fight but with a dagger in her hand, she was full of surprises.

Moira looked up when she saw the girl tackle a man by leaping and wrapping her legs around his torso, the sudden weight making him fall to his back as she jammed her blade through his eye. As she was atop his body, she dodged left an inch to miss the swing of a sword and she jammed another blade into the attacker's chest after he missed, pulling both of her weapons free to face the dragon that landed before her and Moira, a Snaptrapper with several snake-like heads and three mandibles as mouths, covered with teeth.

Runa widened her eyes. "Alright... keep that thing distracted for me," she told her as she charged for it but ran left as it focused on Moira.

[MELODY]

"..aye..great." Moira said as watched it. "Alright ye ugly bastard! Show me what ye got!" She shouted at the dragon as it came at her. She dodged one of the heads coming for her before jumping over another head and ducking for the third trying to get them all tangled up.

[GEM]

Melody used her training to the best of her ability as she fought back the trained soldiers, really just glad she could keep up with others' help. It was her first fight and she didn't even have Lyre to watch her back... not that she regretted her decision.

She was fighting with Snotlout and Ruffnut nearby but as she blocked advances from one of the swordsmen, she backed up, twisting her blade when it caught his and locked his sword in place just long enough for her to slice open his abdomen, yanking down on her other sword and then back up to jam her blade into his face before sending his body to the right.

She looked around as blood dripped from her sickles and realized that in the smoke, the other two were nowhere to be found. But lunging over the corpses of friend and foe, was another soldier that had flanked her and slammed her to the burned wall behind her, leftover from the house that been destroyed. Her back hit the charred wood and knocked some embers into the air. She grit her teeth and tried to slice him but he fought with two blades and caught both of hers, pinning them against the wall behind her in a compromised position.

But before he could finish her a gloved leather hand grabbed his throat as a blade was pressed against it and a familiar hooded face appeared from the right side of his head. "Behind you," he whispered before slitting the man's throat and dropping him.

Muiredach pulled his mouth guard down and glanced to his left. "So what, I leave you for five minutes and you get yourself cornered?" he smirked at her as he twirled his curved dagger in hand that was much like Runa's with an easy skill that he always seemed to have.

[MELODY]

As she rolled her eyes at him as a small smile appeared on her face. "..I was handling it perfectly fine..until I wasn't." She said with a chuckle being glad he showed up when she needed him. Then her eyes widened as she saw a soldier charging at them from behind him. "Watch out!"

[GEM]

He ducked and jammed his dagger up through the man's jaw, causing a horrible choking sound from behind the enemy's metal mask before Muiredach yanked his blade free and stood straight again, the body falling to join the other. "I saw him," he said plainly to her before winking and turning to face a dragon that came from the smoke to kill them both.

[MELODY]

His whole attitude towards her made her smile and feel safer in this battle. "..of course you did.." she mumbled as she grabbed onto the handles of her sickles tightly.

The dragon came at them at full speed and fired at them immediately. As Melody dodged the blast, she slid under its wing and sliced it clean off using the inside of her blade, making the dragon roar out in pain and stumble. But she tripped over its tail as it swung her way when she got back on her feet, making her body hit the ground with a grunt.

[GEM]

Muiredach had run to the opposite side of the beast when it lunged at them, throwing his body over the fire and rolling when he landed, trying to slice its side but it's hide was thick and he didn't make it through as well as he hoped. He dodged its wing and as it turned to leap right at Melody, Muiredach was there as he jammed his arm into its mouth vertically, the dragon's jaw that was about to swallow her now propped open on his blade that drew its blood.

The dragon struggled as Muiredach grit his teeth, withstanding the strength of the dragon as he knelt down to bear it. The dragon was so bloodthirsty it would rather die and take him with it than to back off, Muiredach's blade sinking deeper into the roof of its mouth by the second.

"Sickle!" Muiredach told Melody.

[MELODY]

Melody's eyes widened when it came right at her before he came in between. She quickly handed him the blade she hadn't dropped when falling before picking up the other quickly.

[GEM]

He clicked a button with his hand that was clutching the dragon's mouth and released his arm blade from his bracer, making the dragon bite down on that instead and he caught her weapon in his other hand, spinning it once in hand to get the right grip and stabbed down the center of the dragon's hard skull as hard as he could.

[MELODY]

Concern showed all across her face as she watched him. She knew he could handle himself but she still worried. This worrying caused her to forget where she was for a moment as a soldier came up from behind her. When she noticed him she had barely had time to react as his blade came down at her head. She quickly turned around blocking his strike with her own blade using both hands as she held onto the handle tightly.

[GEM]

The soldier twisted his blade and tried to strike her again across her stomach but she was able to block that as well and shoved his sword aside, coming back with a strike aimed for his chest but he deflected the shot—

Suddenly a curved blade stuck into his face with an insane throw and he fell as he bled from his eye, the sickle protruding from his skull.

Muiredach had pulled it from the dragon and thrown it just in time before he whipped his dagger up and hit the arrow right out of the air that was headed for Mel.

They were being attacked from every direction as Melody noticed the closest one trying to flank her companion.

[MELODY]

Melody quickly pulled her blade out of the man's skull as she threw it horizontally for the man's throat as hard as she could. As he lifted his axe to strike down at Muiredach the curved blade ended up halfway the man's throat making him drop his axe and fall onto his knees before falling face forward to the ground as blood poured out of him making the ground colour red around him.

[GEM]

Muirdach grabbed the soldier he was fighting from behind and broke his leg with a kick to the back of the attacker's knee. He then jammed his dagger into the man's throat when he stopped fighting him with a painful shout, and yanked it out, the body dropping the same time Melody killed the man behind him.

Melody turned just after she killed the attacker and blocked the blow of another, using her offhand sickle which was more difficult but she kept up, striking towards his side and getting intercepted again.

Muiredach had slid and tripped another soldier that was charging at her, the man hitting his face in the dirt while fighting off another.

Melody's blade was yanked from her when she tried to pull her opponent's from his grasp, her sickle flying left. She had to duck to avoid being struck in the throat and she kicked the guard in the groin as hard as she could, catching the dagger that Muiredach threw to her in order to arm her again, she stuck the blade into the man's collarbone and let him fall to the ground.

Muiredach caught the arm of a soldier in his hand and punched the helmet-less man in the face with his other hand, ducking to avoid the slice of a sword that then hit the man he had punched instead and the assassin made a nasty leaping kick to the head of the sword wielder, knocking him right to the ground hard.

[MELODY]

Melody pushed her blade in deeper to make sure to finish her attacker off before she pulled it out.

She then turned around quickly, setting her foot on the arm of the man Muiredach just kicked as he was reaching for his sword. She belt and stabbed him in the throat quickly before he could try to strike again.

[GEM]

Muiredach grabbed her hand before a dragon could snatch her, using one arm to sling her back behind him and let her foot kick the soldier that was running up at their rear. Her boot made contact with his chest and sent him to his back.

Muiredach was facing the opposite direction and grabbed the soldier that had missed his strike against him, by the armor on his chest, and shoved his face into Muiredach's knee before he threw a blade from his thigh at another firing arrows their direction.

[MELODY]

Melody's eyes widened in surprise when he sling her around like that but she had no time to be surprised as the man she had just kicked was about to get up when she kicked him in his face making him fall back again before she finished him off by slicing open his throat.

[GEM]

Muiredach spun and sliced open the abdomen of another assailant with his left arm blade before grabbing Melody and falling to his back, the blast of electricity smiting above them just where she was. But now she was lying face down directly on top of Muiredach to miss the strike before Umbra took out the dragon with a nasty bite to the throat, blasting more soldiers around them with her shadow breath after that as the men stumbled and coughed.

[MELODY]

Melody was breathing rapidly as adrenaline rushed through her body. When she realized how she was laying on top of him, even in that situation they were in, she couldn't help it as a slight blush appeared on her face as she glanced up at him.

[GEM]

Muiredach gave her a little smirk before she let out a small yelp when he flipped them so that he was on top, the same move she had used on him back in that Icelandic forest. But he did this so he could sit up just in time to block the strike down of one of Mora's men with Melody's sickle she didn't realize he took, the sly bastard. With his thighs on either side of her hips he kept the enemy's sword from cutting her down with his block before he locked his weapon with a twist of the curved blade and punched his wrist, breaking the joint.

The soldier cried out and Muiredach used the change to jam the sickle into his chest and shove his body with a hard push.

As Melody's blush became brighter she stared at him as the chaos around them fell away for a moment. Her whole focus was on him until she was snapped out of it when he got off her.

He pulled her up with him and handed her weapon back to her as she gave his back as well and they went back to fighting together.

Ruffnut rolled on the ground to avoid being caught by a dragon that whipped its tail around to hopefully knock her out but she stuck to the ash on her stomach, the long appendage missing her just barely above her head. But she got up and lunged for the beast, stabbing her halberd down on the dragon's back thigh and holding on when it lurched forward to try and throw her off.

"Snotlout!" she shouted.

He sliced off the head of a soldier and looked to see this, running and tackling the dragon's neck as it came by, his axe in its flesh as it screeched and stumbled, both Vikings holding on until the dragon threw its head back and Snotlout flew off the reptile, hitting Ruff and knocking her off as well. They both tumbled against the ground with painful sounds escaping their lips.

"Way to go moron!" she said angrily as he got off her to face the dragon that turned to finish them off. But before he could blast fire Snotlout grabbed a backup sword off his back and charged for it, Ruffnut standing but winging as pain shot through her ankle. She had to block an advance from a soldier that attempted to finish her but she caught the blow just in time and sent him one in return.

Snotlout slid and chopped off the leg of the dragon with a strong swing, crippling it and letting it bleed out finally as it stumbled to the ground.

Ruffnut stabbed the soldier she was fighting in the gut with a battle cry, ignoring the pain in her body. And looked at him when Snotlout took his weapon and made his way to her.

But to her horror, she saw the dragon he just killed rise and open its glowing yellow eyes.

She didn't even have time to react before the dragon bit down on Snotlout's body violently and she cried out when it happened, her whole body in shock and her mind panicked. She ran forward despite knowing he was dead and slung her weapon at the monster before her, missing due to her anger and being whipped by the tail again, this time her head meeting the ground.

Uriah stood in exhaustion, looking around in the ash and heavy smoke as his body was weary and in pain, clutching his axe as he was still determined to die defending these people and end this...

But all he could hear were screams as yellow eyes appeared all around him, forcing fear to take refuge in his heart as he heaved heavy breaths, his face and body covered in ash, blood, and grime.

Moira looked to her left when she saw a Viking be tackled to death by a bloodthirsty Berkian with yellow eyes after she and Runa killed the Snaptrapper and she knew they were too late, both girls horrified and worried now.

Faelan was limping with Arne at his side, both of them just trying to find anyone else as the smoke had gotten horrible and they stumbled over bodies by the tens... and hundreds...

Arne tripped and fell onto one of them, noticing it was the pyro inventor Eino that was impaled by a pike on the ground...

That's when his eyes opened, goggles glowing yellow.

Hiccup couldn't find anyone friendly as he watched the enemy hoard in all directions, killing and destroying all around him. He then turned when he felt eyes on him and saw Tempus Mora's haunting figure looming over the battlefield like the Grim Reaper.

His mask faced Hiccup as if the villain was watching him. "Is this the best you can do, chief?" he taunted, raising his arms as if unimpressed, his voice carried over the whole battlefield despite the sounds of carnage everywhere. "Come. Let me see what you have in you..." he threatened.

Hiccup grit his teeth and held his sword securely before charging for him with everything he had left. He cried out and threw the first blow with Inferno, clashing blades with the conqueror when he whipped his khopesh around to block Hiccup's strike just as fast as usual.

Muiredach let out a grunt when he lopped off the leg of an attacker and he and Melody ducked out of the way when a dragon came by, causing them to take cover behind some rubble. But when they did, the former assassin's eyes grew wide when they spotted something over Melody's shoulder.

[MELODY]

Melody was trying to catch her breath as she glanced up at him. Confusion and concern spread across her face when she saw his expression change before she glanced over her shoulder to see what made him react like that.

[GEM]

She saw that kid Hiccup fighting off—... Lord... was that him?

Moira spotted Uriah charging ahead and desperately cutting down anything in his path to get to where Tempus Mora was fighting Hiccup, knowing the lad was no match for the villain's size, skill, and tenacity.

[MELODY]

Moira's eyes widened when she saw Hiccup fighting Mora and then Uriah heading for them. "N-no.." she let out a shakily breath before she started running in that direction. Not wanting either of them to die.

[GEM]

Hiccup blocked the man's swing that aimed for his neck, ducking when the blade slid off his and twisted it to block the next with the best of his ability, trying to keep up as he was feeling his strength wane.

Tempus Mora spun his left blade with easy skill and cut down Hiccup's flaming sword with a strong slice, knocking it aside before coming in with his offhand to try and tear open Hiccup's throat but he ducked and tried to stab him. The conqueror kicked Hiccup in the side and only barely missed when he tried to stab down his back, Hiccup spinning and facing him again despite his body beginning to tire greatly.

He lunged for Mora and his sloppy strikes were met with precise ones, infinitely calculated and strong, blades moving faster than Hiccup could keep up with as they struck left and right in attempt to kill him, each counter attack by Hiccup completely evaded until Mora caught his blade and sliced it in half with his own before kicking the lad in the gut hard, hiccup Falling back.

But Uriah intercepted him and struck Mora with his axe, Mora's blade hitting the blade of the axe and making a ringing of steel before Uriah swung again for his abdomen, that being blocked as well as Mora took steps back, both of them fighting at a faster speed than he did with Hiccup despite Uriah also being exhausted. But unlike Hiccup, this wasn't Uriah's first fight.

He ducked backwards when Mora's blade nearly sliced his chest and deflected the next blow with his axe, just trying to land one blow on him it seemed impossible.

Hiccup had gotten up and tried to attack him but he spun and kicked Uriah in the side before blocking the throw of Hiccup's dagger with his khopesh. He then blocked Uriah's next strike with both his weapons in a horizontal formation and knocked the axe from the Irishman's hand. Forcing him to dodge the next blow by moving out of its way as he ducked and rolled, grabbing a sword from a fallen foe instead and came back up to try and slice his leg but he was blocked, the man's curved blade sliding through Inferno suddenly and Hiccup jammed his sword into the carcass below him to trap his weapon there for just long enough to kick him but Mora grabbed his boot before it could make contact with his face and ducked to avoid Uriah's swing.

He shoved Hiccup back and disarmed him when he yanked his sword free, just in time to deflect a swing at his right shoulder from Uriah. When the strike was blocked, Uriah tried to slash his face but Mora's sword caught the blow and then the next, counterattacking with a strike to the side that Uriah blocked, but when he dodged Mora's next swing he grabbed the man's arm, fingers clutching his ornate gauntlet. But Mora smashed his head against Uriah's, making him see stars as he stumbled back.

[MELODY]

As Uriah stumbled back someone with familiar red hair flashed by with speed. Moira swung her blade at Mora as an attempt to slice his arm off where the gauntlet was on.

[GEM]

Mora lifted his arm vertically just in time and blocked her strike, her blade hitting the silver armor before he spun to try and slice her abdomen.

[MELODY]

She dodged his strike by stepping back quickly before coming at him again with a strike for his throat this time. Her eyes were full of hatred for him but there was this small hint of hesitance as well.

[GEM]

He held his khopesh backwards and threw up his arm to block the advance, whipping around to kick her in the gut.

[MELODY]

She couldn't react in time as she back when he kicked her. She quickly got back onto her feet as she dodged his next attack again just barely.

[GEM]

She is able to catch his next blow with his offhand weapon with her dirk and ducked from the next from his mainhand before he struck down on her with his khopesh and her blade met his over her head, nearly overcoming her with his incredible strength as he put pressure on her.

But the conqueror had to bend back suddenly when a halberd was thrown his direction and it missed his chest, burying into the severed torso of a Viking past him.

This gave Moira the chance to get free and she did but he shoved her back and she tripped over a body.

He put out his arm and launched a dart from his crossbow contraption on his bracer that stuck into Ruffnut's leg, the one who threw the halberd at him and she stumbled and fell.

Moira had not gotten back to her feet nearly as fast as she fell.

[MELODY]

Moira shot him a glare that could have killed if that was possible. How dared he hurting her friends? Innocent people! He had no right to do so. Overcome by rage she kind of lost focus as she got up as fast as she could and attempted to stab him when she came at him again using her speed to try to surprise him.

[GEM]

He blocked her strike with speed and tried to slice Moira's face with his other blade when he did.

[MELODY]

She barely managed to step back in time causing her to get a cut across her cheek. She gritted her teeth as she didn't back down as she came at him again trying to move faster this time.

[GEM]

His main hand blade struck down on her own to deflect her slice but he had to put up his offhand to block the strike from Uriah who was back in the fight, attempting to slice down his back but Mora's blade was being held backwards up the backside of his arm to block it. And he whipped the weapon around as he ducked to dodge Moira's next swing and deflected Uriah's with his blade, keeping up with both of them incredibly well. He blocked strikes left and right with his blades and grabbed Uriah's throat, slamming him to the ground before kicking Moira's dagger from her hand when she attempted to strike his left thigh with it to bring him to his knees.

But the masked menace suddenly stumbled and grunted in pain when something hit his back. It was a small throwing blade but he left it in as he turned to face Muiredach who had his mask over his mouth and nose again, entering the fight.

Mora blocked the first attempted on his life from his former assassin, his bracer catching it before he tried to slice his head off, Muiredach ducking and trying to slice his leg with his left arm blade when he did but his attack was cut short when Mora's boot hit his chest.

But Muiredach had seen that coming and he threw up his other leg to force Mora off his own and threw his body down beside him on the ground. The conqueror did a swift roll and landed on his feet again as his attackers charged for him.

[MELODY]

Moira had picked up her dagger again as she went for him again together with the other two hoping they would finally get the chance to kill him.

[GEM]

He ducked from her attack and struck left suddenly, his blade slicing off Hiccup's prosthetic leg and knocking him back onto the ground before he could strike down the villain. He threw his khopesh upwards to deflect Uriah's strike and kicked him before Muiredach's attack was also blocked by his offhand. He moved with wicked speed as he pressed the assassin backwards, the only one of them able to keep up with Mora perfectly as the two exchanged stikes back and forth at least six times before the others could attack him again.

[MELODY]

As soon as she got the chance again Moira came at him again. She swung around avoiding his strike by ducking while she did that to attempt to slice his abdomen before she moved out of the way for the others when she didn't manage to get him.

[GEM]

Mora deflected Muiredach's next strike before ducking back to avoid Uriah's, hooking his blade around the Irishman's leg to try and catch him off guard but when he yanked it and managed to slice a bit of his calf, Uriah did a skillful lunge backwards before throwing his sword towards Mora just as the conqueror had to block one of Muiredach's stabs towards his abdomen. The sword is deflected by the villain's other khopesh as he moved it just in time, Uriah's sword flying and nearly hitting Moira.

Mora grabbed Muiredach's arms and kicked him in the stomach, the assassin letting out a painful noise when this happened.

[MELODY]

Moira's eyes widened when she saw the sword coming her way but luckily she could dodge it in time as it nearly had taken her eye out.

[GEM]

When Moira lunged at Mora's backside to try and stab him, she was quickly blocked by his main hand but Muiredach latched his blade with Mora's when he was distracted by Moira and launched it from the man's grasp with a strong jerk.

Uriah did a roll forward between them, keeping Mora from taking a step forward, and leapt up with a dagger to jam it into the man's leg. But he was blocked by Mora's khopesh. Uriah grabbed his wrist and used all of his strength to whip his body up and force the conqueror to the ground on his back. But Uriah was shoved hard as the man overtook him and the Irishman was now on the ground before he was hit in the temple by the back of Mora's weapon that the villain then spun and sliced Muiredach's leg with. He then blocked Moira's next attack and his curved sword and pushed her blade away before knocking her back with a swoop of his leg to trip her.

Muiredach had stumbled but was still fighting despite the pain, Uriah clutching his head in complete agony as pain shot through his whole body from that blow and he was hardly able to remember his name. He felt like the man had broken his skull.

Mora blocked Muriedach's next strike quickly and whipped around and kicked him in the head, knocking him down as Moira was the last one standing in that moment when she got back to her feet.

[MELODY]

Moira glanced over at Uriah full of concern briefly before she shook her head slightly trying to stay focused on Mora. She tightened her grip on her dirk as she went straight for him again with the last strength and energy she had.

[GEM]

Mora spun his blade in his fingers and slammed it down on her dirk before she could stab him, turning around when she went past him and swung his khopesh for her left shoulder.

[MELODY]

Moira reacted barely in time moving her blade up to block his swing for her shoulder as she almost fell over.

[GEM]

She noticed then that his blade made contact with her shoulder guard, cutting through the leather and even a little bit of skin as she held her dirk against his blade but her strength was being challenged. He pulled his weapon back and tried to slice off her head.

[MELODY]

The sudden the release of pressure made her almost stumble as she had to let herself fall and do a backwards barrel roll to avoid getting her head cut off. She quickly got back onto her feet breathing heavily as she tried to keep herself together putting all her strength into one last attempt to get him. Seeing everything and everyone around her go up in flames and be taken by death.

[GEM]

Mora grabbed the handle of a hatchet that was buried in the skull of a body before throwing directly it at Moira. She dodged left just in time as the axe's blade flew past her face but when she looked back ahead, the conqueror was right in front of her and a foot kicked her chest hard, knocking her to her back as her dirk went flying.

She panicked as the villain didn't hesitate to stomp down her shin with his steel boot, breaking her knee cap from its place with a crack and sending a horrible pain through her like never in her life.

[MELODY]

Moira screamed it out in pain. She glanced up at him then narrowing her eyes at him breathing shakily in the sheer agony. "T-Thig Dia air bhur son, air son bhur peacanna.." ("G-God will come for you, for your sins..) she said in Gaelic to him her voice full of hate as she looked him directly into his eyes.

[GEM]

Uriah's eyes widened in horror and his ears burned from the sound of her scream, his vision blurry but he knew her voice too well.

Muiredach stood back up at once, filled with adrenaline as he grit his teeth and launched a throwing blade, forcing Mora to deflect it with his blade and he did a roll to try and slice his leg but Mora moved it just time and threw down his khopesh on Muiredach who spun to miss the blow. He stood and tried to slide his backside but Mora twirled his blade around and caught the strike before sending his own when he turned around again, trying to stab Muiredach in the shoulder but the man dodged left and then put up his arm blade to block the next swing, the steel on steel sound ringing in their ears when every strike.

Muiredach crossed his dagger with his left arm blade when Mora struck down towards his face and caught the man's blade there between them. For a split second, his eyes and the conqueror's met and there was nothing but calculated fury in Muiredach's eyes at everything Tempus Mora had become. He had devoted his life to the legacy of a man who now hunted children for his own ego, desperate that he was the only rightful leader of anything and sold his soul as a result.

While Mora's eyes only saw a man who had betrayed him for pathetic ideologies of false justice and pitied him for the ending that would await him because of it.

Tempus Mora drew his blade back and Muiredach ducked low before his throat could be sliced. He tried to slice open the villain's stomach but his arm was grabbed by him after his blade missed by a hair, Muiredach drove his bracer blade through Mora's side but because of the man's armor, it only went in about an inch at the most and he was kicked in the thigh before the conqueror let go and tried to end him with a blade across the man's chest. But he bent back and dodged this as Tempus Mora took steps forward, not slowing down despite the fact that he was bleeding in several places now like Muiredach was.

The two were fueled and lunging at one another with incredible speed.

When Runa heard the fight from across the felt, she buried her blade in the eye of a zombified soldier before looking up as she saw the silhouette of the vicious fight. Her eyes widened.

Muiredach tried to slice Mora's leg but was blocked by the blade of the villain and then tried to use his dagger to slice his chest but Mora's khopesh was already there to deflect the plunge and shove his weapon aside. He tried to jam the back of his weapon against Muiredach's face but the assassin dodged it and rolled left, getting back on one knee to try to strike the back of Mora's right thigh but he was met with the hook of Mora's blade that broke Muiredach's from his grip. The dagger hit the ground and Muiredach had to use his left arm blade to block the next strike from Mora as he held it horizontally over his head. He looked his leg around Mora's ankle and tried to knock him off his more vulnerable foot.

Mora let himself fall to his right only to roll and face him again. The two ran and clashed blades again with strength and determination. Muiredach struck left and right, being blocked every time before he had to dodge Mora's attack and try to strike again. But this advance was also deflected.

Mora struck him from above and Muiredach grabbed his arm when he blocked it, throwing his body around so he could bring the man to his back, holding his blade across his throat but before he could slice, Mora struck him in the face with his elbow and caused him to let him go. He got up as fast as he went down and tried to finish Muiredach but the assassin rolled and leapt to his feet with one swift movement, charging and striking with skill that nearly met the conqueror's.

Nearly.

He advanced, using his bracer blade to try and stab him as it was blocked and knocked aside and he tried again for his left side, hitting steel once more when he did. Again to his right, blocked. Again towards his leg. Blocked. The sound of their blades clashing over and over made a quick melody over the battlefield as it got faster and both men got more tenacious.

Muiredach tried again and again, shoving his blade towards him any chance he could get. He caught the blow of Mora's khopesh down on his head and slung it aside to try and stab—

Suddenly a sharp pain stung his whole system and his body seized up in shock. His eyes were wide and he looked back at the mask of the conqueror when he could faintly hear Runa's scream of horror.

He stumbled and fell back, Mora's khopesh leaving his stomach as Muriedach's blood covered the whole curved blade and dripped from it. He fell to his back as life was being drained out of him, his life flashing before his eyes as it happened seemingly in slow motion.

"You should have known who you were dealing with, boy..." Tempus Mora said as he looked down on him, his cloak caught in the wind as the orange glow drifted embers down around him like a haunting snowfall.

As his back was on the ground looking at Tempus Mora above him, his vision changed, seeing his mother's face instead and then seeing Runa's... and then Melody's.

[MELODY]

When Melody heard Runa's scream and looked up her eyes widened in horror, shock and panic when she saw the man who she loved fall down. "N-no...No!!" She screamed. As tears started to stream down her face she felt panic rush through her body. Without thinking she just started running to get to him desperately wanting to save him still.

[GEM]

Uriah looked up at the masked villain as rage built inside of him, knowing if he still had breath in his lungs he would fight. It took everything he had to get up, gripping his sword, and charging for him.

Mora saw this and didn't have time to pick up his other weapon before meeting Uriah's blade with his own that was still coated with Muiredach's blood. Uriah grit his teeth and fought back as he noticed the villain was losing strength since his blood was on the ground as well, being sliced in several places already.

He sliced left and right as Mora blocked each strike and tried to get Uriah's side when he had the chance. But the Irishman deflected his blade with a skillful maneuver and tried to shove his own through the man's stomach. He was dodged and the conqueror whipped around to kick his arm, causing his sword to fly from his grasp but Uriah bent backwards to avoid the next strike that would have cut his chest open and he grabbed Mora's other khopesh that had fallen onto the ground before he sprung up and blocked next blow, shoving the blade aside before striking towards Mora himself. His was deflected and the next few were but Uriah hooked Mora's blade with the same curved one and managed to swipe it across the man's mask with a harsh swing, feeling friction on the blade and knowing it made contact but Mora punched Uriah in the face and the man stumbled and caught himself before he hit the ground.

Tempus Mora stood there breathing heavily as he had his back turned to Uriah, and then the Irishman watched the mask fall in two pieces on the ground at his feet when the conqueror threw it off. He turned to see a mild cut across the man's face but now here Uriah was looking into Rune's eyes, the face of his friend looking back at him but with nothing but evil inside.

It shook him for a moment, making him hesitate as it became all too real for Uriah, reminding him of who he was about to kill... of whose body was being used and soul trapped in a cage of dark magic... of who would die once Uriah swung his sword.

[MELODY]

As she tripped over a body on her way to Muiredach, Melody quickly got up as she finally got to him. "M-Muiredach.." her voice was shaking as she looked at him putting pressure to his wound despite seeing the amount of blood he already lost. "Y-you..you will be fine..y-you.." she said to him trying also to convince herself as realization slowly started to creep up on her that he was about to slip away and die.

[GEM]

Melody didn't think Muiredach could look more pale than he already did but his skin was white like a sheet and his eyes were dark and sunken with death's glare soaking in. His lung was punctured from the stab so he couldn't speak. As she looked into his eyes, however, she saw a panicked pain, sorrow... and fear. She had never see him look so vulnerable as he realized his life was at its end. She could see in his gaze how much he wanted to say, how much he felt, and yet somehow deep in his eyes she could see more than a thousand words, blood now trying to seep slowly from his pale lips that he kept shut as he held onto life as long as he could.

With his trembling hand he tried to weakly lift it, reaching for her face with what strength he had left to do so. His fingers grazed her cheek and his thumb touched her bottom lip, his eyes taking in her beauty one last time.

[MELODY]

As more tears escaped her eyes falling down from her chin she looked back at him slowly breaking down as she saw life slip away from him. With her now trembling hands she laid one against his hand on her cheek and the other against his as she sat besides her. "I-...I..love you.." she managed to say before her voice broke. She felt her whole world fall apart all around her as she watched him slip away from her..

[GEM]

His hand dropped when his eyes became empty, knowing body was no longer attached to soul.

[MELODY]

"N-..no..no.." Melody dropped her hand with his as she held it tightly to her chest leaning forward as she let out a heart shattering scream full of pain and heartbreak. This was followed by loud cries as she couldn't keep herself together anymore now he was gone.

[GEM]

Tempus Mora noticed Uriah's hesitance to fight now and he chuckled. "Oh what's the matter, missionary? Your emotions have gotten in the way of slaying your prey?" he taunted with his loud booming voice, throwing his arms up as if he was putting on some kind of show. He took a step towards the man, amused, as Uriah just glared back, unsure of himself. "You don't want to kill me, do you?"

He didn't know how to reply, his whole being in a swirl of misdirection and confusion, wondering if this was a trap somehow but another part of him knew that Mora was just toying with him.

"Do it... coward," the villain said slowly, emphasis in every word as he stared at Uriah with death and destruction in his grey eyes.

Uriah hesitated, his hand still clutching his sword.

"What will it take?! Huh?!" He took steps back and grabbed Moira by her hair, dragging her up so that her head was at hip height of him. "Do it!" he shouted in a fury that rivaled Stoick's.

Uriah's sudden rage came back and he leapt from his place, running at Mora and thrusting his sword into him with everything he had.

The conqueror had thrown Moira aside and swung his blade up to meet Uriah's, deflecting his blow and then his next and then his next but there was something unhinged in Uriah that came out, an energy unmatched. He swung for Mora over and over with unfiltered fury, again and again, until Mora's swings couldn't keep up and Uriah tackled him to the ground, punching him over and over like he did with the man that killed Gregor.

He had nothing but rage in his face as he beat the man senseless and stabbed his dagger through his chest when that wouldn't do, pulling it out and shoving it back in again and again until Mora's eyes were lifeless and Uriah suddenly stopped moving.

He dropped the dagger as stillness took him and the battlefield, all of Mora's dragons and men dropping dead as the lights in their eyes went out.

Runa gasped for air when she was free from a dragon's claws, limping and dragging herself to safety, her eyes stuck to Melody and Muriedach.

Uriah stayed there on his knees over the body of Rune, the man's eye color shifting back to blue when Tempus Mora's possession had left him. Now it was only the carcass of his brother and the man's blood all over his trembling hands.

He clenched his hands into fists and shut his eyes as his emotions boiled in his veins, his anger turning into complete misery of the strongest kind. He let out a long and painful wail that echoed over the entirety of Berk, slumping forward as he clutched the armor on his friend's body... his soul drowned in sorrow and agony as he finally began to weep bitterly.

[MELODY]

As Moira lifted her upper body slightly up in pain she froze completely watching Uriah do that. She had never seen him like this before. So seeing him beat and stab that man to death like that shocked her. Even with the circumstances it did shock her that he went through in killing him like that. She now just stared at him silently trying to process what just happened.

[GEM]

Not only that, but the devastation in his voice when he wept, it was enough to soak her soul in absolute misery... painful misery. He was broken. And shattered. And she was watching it happen before her.

As Moira looked around, she saw Astrid dead under rubble, Stoick lifeless, Hiccup struggling to move as he took trembling breaths. She heard the horrid cries of Melody over the body of the assassin that saved her... a kind of misery that stabbed your soul when you hear it.

She saw Snotlout's body under that of a dragon's... as well as Arne's and Bjorn's...

Then she heard the wailing of a mother who fell on the body of her husband when she found him dead.

She saw nothing but death and despair all around her, hearing nothing but the bitter painful crying of Berk's people and her own found family...

This was not what she wanted.

This was too much.

This was no victory.

She screwed up her face in sorrow as her eyes finally released tears of her own, her body now in emotional pain as well as physical. She was clutching the ashen ground with her dirty hands, losing the strength to feel anything but misery. But as she remained there breathing hard, glancing back up at Uriah who was still crying into his friend's corpse and even holding the man's hand as he did so... she couldn't bear it.

Glancing to her left, she saw an unused bomb of Eino's hooked to the belt of a fallen archer. With trembling hands, she reached for it and struggled but detached it from it's place.

She looked down at the embers under her that were still glowing and she shut her eyes for a moment. "God forgive me if I am doing wrong..." she whispered before putting the fuse to the embers and letting her body fall, the bomb resting beside her head now as she shut her eyes...

When Moira opened her eyes to the ceiling of Astrid's home, she took in a deep, trembling breath. She didn't want them to hear, as Astrid and David argued below her... but she couldn't even register them talking as she sat up and buried her face in her hands, silently crying into them...
