#9 Stabbed

We were walking back to the school, I was planning to sleep there tonight. It's not like I have a home there or anyone waiting for me. Tragically who should have been waiting for me is already killed by me. We were talking the whole way, laughing and having fun. We were a little too loud, especially for people walking in a land they don't really know too well but it doesn't matter. After all its not like we get to talk like this and have fun everyday. I already consider these two my family. The only thing left for me to call family.

I also know however that these two have families waiting for them home. Lirit's father died long ago leaving 2 children to their mother. One girl and one boy. As the boy out of the two siblings Lirit was forced to come to this school. He said he was scared and fighting wasn't something he enjoys but he didn't have a choice. He came here 2 days after Lyric. Master Dolos put them together in the same group, he guessed they were going to be good friends. Like they told me they also had a third boy with them in the group. They didn't tell me his name or anything about him. All they said was that he died almost a year ago.

Maybe the special treatment I got from them was only because I replaced their old dead friend. I hate thinking of it this way. It makes me feel like the only reason they even gave me attention was because I was a replacement. Just memories they don't want to lose. I hate people who cling to the past and never let go of it. I don't think they do all that to me just because of the memories. They wouldn't go so far just for that reason.

"Hey, we haven't eaten anything today, I am really starving! I am really thirsty too!" said Lyric. "You are always starving Lyric! Learn from Doron a little, he hasn't complained about a single thing from the beginning of trip" "Don't act like the innocent one here Lirit, you've been complaining about the weather before we even started" I said. We all started complaining before Lirit stopped suddenly. He suddenly looked concerned. "What's the matter Lirit" Lyric said before I had the chance to ask him. Lirit points his hands forward, they were about 10 people, I could tell they were Hafigan warriors. They had already seen us, they were preparing their bows to shoot arrows towards us.

All of us ducked down immediately, we could understand the situation without thinking much. I pulled out my sword and was prepared to run towards them. "Stop!" said Lirit. They still haven't shot the arrows, they are waiting for us to get out. "This is fine" I said "They won't be able to shoot me if I run as fast as I can from this distance". He looked at me and said "But you also won't be able to get closer to them. We are a team here, lets work together. If we do that we can beat these guys easily".

Lyric pulled out her thin sword saying "Give us instructions master Lirit" sarcastically. Lirit asks "Do you think they've seen how many of us are there?". Of course they have. What kind of question is this they clearly had enough time. "They must have seen" I responded. "That is fine" He said "The terrain is mountainous and we are in a higher area than them so we can do this. When I tell you, Lyric, you will run to their right, make sure they see you but run fast enough so their arrows don't hit you, Doron, you will do the same to their left. Both of you take cover and wait for my second sign. When I tell you will both start running towards them, I don't need to tell you what to do not to get hit by their arrows, I believe you both know that. I will start running towards them too. They won't be able to stop the three of us at the same time."

It sounded like a good strategy to me. But I still believe I could have done that alone. "Go!" He says before I even had time to process anything. I started running from the opposite directions like he said. They shot multiple arrows trying to him me. They are amateurs, I can tell they are actually scared of us. I would have no problem ending a hundred of them alone. I made it to the cover. Lyric had already made it to hers seconds before me. She is a lot faster when it comes to speed so I am not worried about her, but what about Lirit? How will he be able to do the hardest part like the two of us. I shouldn't overthink this, he sure has a plan.

I waited about half a minute more before I heard him screaming go. I could barely hear him even though he was screaming as loud as he could. Who is the girl here? I started running downhills towards them like he said so did Lyric. This time the arrows were really close, if I ran a little slower they would have hit me. I looked at Lirit. He also had no problem. Even though he wasn't as fast as me and Lyric, he was dodging the arrows in his own ways by stopping or turning left and right. He had really good timing, I was surprised, he isn't as weak in battles as I thought. Lyric reached them first, stabbing one of them. Her speed never ceases to amaze me, her blade went in his chest and out instantly. she made piercing a human body look easy. I made it after her swinging my sword and killing two of the men there easily. It was like I thought they were amateurs. They could barely even swing their swords properly. Lirit also killed two guys on his own, I was impressed. He didn't have any outstanding strength or speed or anything like that, he was a balanced warrior.

We quickly killed the remaining ones. Just as we thought we could take a break we saw that one of them was getting away. If the news that there are Astornians who live near this area goes to the rest of the empire it will be the end of our school. I couldn't just let him, I started running as fast as I could towards him, I ran without even thinking but it was no use. I don't think even Lyric will make it there in time he was a fast runner let alone the distance between us when we started. I gave up, I stopped running and looked at him. I guess this is the end for our school. I was already planning to where I will take these two. Maybe I should start my own army. Not a school but an actual army. An army that gathers any Astornian that can fight and fights the Hafigan army. I don't see why it won't work. However suddenly, I saw an arrow flying from behind me, piercing the guys head.

I can't deny that I couldn't help but remember what happened earlier this morning by this, it was a little overwhelming for me, all of this in one day. I stopped thinking too much and walked back to Lyric and Lirit. The one who shot the arrow was Lirit. He used the boy and the arrow of what of the warriors we killed earlier. I was surprised that he could be so accurate with a bow. Why does he even use a sword, a bow with this accuracy is a million times more useful than his sword skills. "Wow! I never knew you could use a bow this well Lirit!" said Lyric. "Impressive isn't it" said Lirit while laughing. "It actually is my first time using a bow" Lyric shouted "It's natural talent! Talent! You should tell the master about this!"

"Lets go we need to go back, I am starving". They both laughed and followed me. We finally got home. We survived one more night. We ate at the cafeteria together and talked. We somehow never run out of stuff to talk about. I felt like we could stay here forever together and never get bored. The food isn't great but it's a warm meal. Like I said I told them that I am going to sleep here today with them and they liked the idea a lot. All the students in the school are divided to small groups of 10 and have a room with 5 double decker beds to sleep in. Our group was small, the smallest in the whole school, so we had a huge room all to ourselves. Each one of us has a whole bed and we still have 2 beds free. I slept there.

I was woken up by Lyric shouting at me as loud as she could. "Wake up, Doron, Wake up! Lirit was stabbed by master Dolos!"
