#4 New family
I asked him what his name was in an attempt to seem more natural while dueling with him. "Dolos" He answers while charging at me in an astonishing speed hitting my sword with his sword. He didn't even let me have a chance to hear his name properly, my whole arm was numb just because of one hit. He definitely was not a typical warrior like those guards or even my colleagues. For the first time in years today, I felt scared. If he didn't aim directly to my sword I would have been dead. My whole body was in shock because of that simple attack but I couldn't give up I noticed that right after he attacked he had trouble controlling his sword properly. It was my only chance to properly hit him. I returned to my normal stance and waited for him to attack me the same way again. All of the students that were watching were cheering for their teacher and leader. It didn't bother me, as we started getting serious the sounds disappeared, they never stopped cheering, I just was so focused that I couldn't give them any attention. "You repelled my attack pretty well there, I am impressed". I didn't like the way he was talking to me, it seemed as if he was underestimating me. "You said your name is Dolos? That doesn't sound so much different from mine" I said, this time cautious and expecting his attack at any moment, my brain never took a brake for a single moment there. He laughs, with his really deep voice he gently laughs and asks "are you ready?" Again he was underestimating me, I won't let him get away with this.
He repeats the exact same movements but this time he wasn't talking, It felt a lot more comfortable for me this time. There were no distractions or anything to trick me. He charges just like the previous time and hits aims for my sword. While I knew he was stronger than me I easily had better agility than him, it wasn't difficult at all for me to dodge his attack without even needing to move my feet from their place. All I did was duck down and I was far away from his attack. It was my golden opportunity, I swing my sword to injure his knees which will end this duel instantly, I didn't hold back I don't care what happens to him. I'd happily sacrifice him for my dream. Just about when my sword was ready to touch his knees he jumped back leading him to only being hit by the tip of my sword. It didn't do anything serious to him but it shut the cheering students. Now they actually find this a worthy fight to watch and not just a feast of their leader on a small and unworthy opponent. Dolos looked at me, his face was just as confident as ever, it still bothered me how much he is underestimating me but it doesn't matter. This third strike will be the most important strike yet.
This time I was the one who decided to talk first to him. "How do you like that old man?" I said trying to make fun of him and make him lose his temper. If he does lose his temper its a guaranteed win for me. Such a huge body swinging a sword recklessly will be easier to beat than a little child. He looks at me with a small smile and says "Impressive, impressive indeed I have to win this I can't let such a strong warrior just slip from me". I still hate the way he talks to me more than anything, but I still have to calm down. we both get ready for the third strike. However, I was in a dilemma, I expect him to attack me the same way he did the previous two time but I don't think its that simple. He is not stupid to attack me the same way again. I tried to not overthink it but my mind wouldn't stop calculating possible scenarios.
I decided not to wait for him to attack me first because I wasn't sure what he was going to do and I can't just give up to chances. I run as fast as I could towards him planning to attack him from the side before he had time to react. The moment I swung my sword, he easily stopped my attack using his sword, which was exactly what I was hopping he does all I needed to do was just attack him again from the opposite direction before he had time to react. To my surprise, he had plenty of time to dodge my attack and disappear from where my sight. While I didn't even have time to react, he kicked me from behind, or more like pushing me using his leg, making me fall forward and winning the duel. He didn't even use his sword to attack me, I was really angry. He clearly was underestimating me all of the time. He looked me in the eyes with a little smile saying "now you're mine" I fell so roughly that I passed out then because of the armors weight on my body.
When I woke up I found myself in a luxurious huge room, it looked more like a huge hospital's room with many beds and even a doctor who was sleeping there when I woke up. It was dark so I guessed it was midnight meaning I only have 24 hours to act fast before the Hafigans attack. I looked everywhere for Dolos, and when I finally found him, I found him sleeping in his own little room, he clearly wasn't taking the situation seriously enough but I let him sleep as much as he wanted this night, after all it was the great battle tomorrow. After hours of waiting he finally woke up, with an expression as annoyingly cheerful as ever he said "Good morning! You look so excited for your first night with your new comrades" "What about the attack? How ignorant could you be? Are you really not going to prepare anything for this?" He looks at me with an unchanging expression saying "Oh that! I've already taken care of it". I lost my temper. I started shouting "What do you mean you have already taken care of it?! Don't you understand that even if your whole army is all made of warriors as strong as you are you stand no chance with the Hafigan army!" He doesn't look bothered at all from anything I say, instead he looks at me and says "Told you I've already taken care of it while you were asleep now come with me to meet your new little team I prepared for you" He walks out of the room. I had no other choice than to follow him, ironically he did seem reliable to me.
He introduced me to 2 of his students, a girl who also worked in their army, which I found really strange because I've never seen a girl fight before. She was called Lyric. And the other one was a boy called Lirit. They both looked the same age as me, and it was obvious that they knew each other from before. Dolos told us get along and left. I was confused, why would he do that. Lyric grabbed my hand in excitement and asked "Hey! It's the new boy! Doron wasn't it? You really impressed as all back then! usually no one is able to even lay a finger against the master let alone injuring him! We really feel honored to have you with us!" and the boy, Lirit replies "That is true we should show you around at dynam school first". I was confused but I always wanted to have loyal friends to fight with me and have my back like I everyone in the army. "Dynam school? That's a weird name" I said. "The name doesn't matter come on lets show you around before it gets crowded!" Lyric said while dragging my arm and Lirit following us. "How many people live here in this school?" I asked. "About 200? maybe a little more" said Lirit from behind me. I'd never seen a school so large before in my life, most of the schools I used to see had 50 people maximum, so this one really impressed me. We went to a little cafeteria and I ate while listening to their weird stories with their teacher.
They were peaceful, they truly had never seen war or anything like that, they didn't seem to hate the Hafigans either. Lyrics story particularly was interesting for me, she said she left home and came here to protect her little brother. Something I couldn't do to mine. I also introduced myself to them and told them everything that happened to me so far. It was the best meal I had ever eaten in my life. Never before had I experienced such warmth. I had been wandering and fighting with who I had always considered my enemies. Ever since my parents died I could never eat a real meal, and ever since my brother died, I couldn't every experience warmth or safety. But these two today, who were complete strangers to me just yesterday became my new family.
