I saw it, remembered, and inspired

That title makes no sense, so I'll explain it down here, because there's an 80 character limit up there. Which has stopped me from putting on so many creative titles. But anyway. I was reading a bunch of Haikyuu soulmate AUs because yes, and I was like "I should write one." Then I was like "oh wait, I've already written one and a half (because sequel inspo hasn't hit me hard yet)" and so I just decided to do an extension of my very first fanfiction here, Even if Time Runs Out. By the way, that was inspired by a fanfiction called Even if they Find Us, and I thought that was a really cool title, so my brain said, "get one similar to that" and so I did, with no ideas for the plot whatsoever. Then I remembered that I really liked soulmate AUs, but I wanted to be as original as possible, so I made up a universe where when you met your soulmate, on your wrist, the date they would die appeared. Then, I wrote like three chapters and forced myself to publish every day, and that's how I made a book that at one point made it to #2 is AsaNoya for some reason. Anyway, this will be in that universe, happening before the beginning of the book. That's right folks, it's a goddamn prequel. It's a very late teaser :D

Be.
Prepared.
For angst.

Nishinoya was most certainly excited for this day. Not only was he going to Karasuno, he was gonna join the volleyball team, and hopefully meet some cute girls and/or guys. And maybe even a soulmate! Today was a good day for Noya, most certainly. The second he walked into the gym, his eyes immediately fell on a huge guy. Huge. He had to be at least seven feet tall, and when he turned to look at Yuu, his heart skipped a beat, and time seemed to stop. His eyes. The only thing he could focus on was his eyes, big, beautiful, bright brown orbs that reflected off of the hazy gym lights and seemed to radiate a glow that no neon sign could ever hope to match. This is it, he realized. This is my soulmate. Those are soulmate's eyes.

He felt a tingling on his wrist, and looked down at it.

...no. It can't, he can't...

But the man walked up to him and brought him out of his trance.

"Hello," he mumbled, "I'm Asahi Azumane. I believe you're Nishinoya Yuu?"

Noya wasn't sure if it was the nerves, or the fear, or the excitement, or the growing sadness he felt inside of him, but he couldn't hold it in.

"WE'RE SOULMATES!" He screamed.

"Oh! OH! I guess we are."

A few hours later, back at home, Nishinoya pulled down the sleeve of his school uniform, something he hadn't dared to do before then. But before he could look, he got a text from Tanaka.

My dude. Your new BF wants to go on a date, and he's gonna be at your house in fifteen minutes.

"What the hell?!" He was half outraged, half excited.

It was an...eventful night. They had almost gotten mugged, and Nishinoya had been terrified, scared for his life. But Asahi had taken a stand, and after the robbers were gone he held him tight, and he'd felt so safe in the man's arms. A few hours later, he'd gotten dropped off at his house.

Only at that moment did Yuu allow himself to fully break down, a sobbing mess on the floor, alone, because his parents were always away.

This was it. He'd met the man of his dreams, his soulmate, and he would only be alive for a year or so more. Finally, finally, he managed to drag his gaze down to his wrist.
