Arrival
The Doctor hopped down the steps towards the door. He glanced back at me. "Well, aren't you going to come?"
By that point, I was thinking straight. This wasn't just the oppurtunity of a lifetime, it could also be certain death. I'd seen quite a few episodes of Doctor Who, and every single one of them had ended in chaos or death. I wasn't sure if putting myself in a place with the Doctor would be as fun as one would think.
"Will it be dangerous?" I asked.
The Doctor grinned. "Of course it will be, you're traveling with me, remember?"
I walked down the stairs so I could look him in the eye. "So what you're saying... Is that you think you can take a normal girl off the streets on a random day and expect her to come with you when she knows adventuring with you could end up with her own death?"
He sighed and slightly rolled his eyes. "You do remember how I said I felt guilty for something that happens in your future, right? I need to do this. If I don't create the best of times with you, I won't ever forgive myself, and that means living forever without a clean conscience. I promise to protect you, to do everything I can to keep you safe while you travel with me. I promise."
It wasn't a beautiful speech, and I don't think I would have listened to anyone else say it, but something in his voice, a sort of pleading, desperate tone made me focus. This really could be the adventure of a lifetime, and my world was boring back home. What could it hurt? A girl needs a little danger in her life, doesn't she?
I turned to look at him. "Whatever happens in the future... How bad is it?"
"You know I can't tell you."
I sighed. These secrets, the missing pieces in this puzzle that was becoming my life, were exhausting. "And if I say no, that I won't travel with you?"
"You'll return home without the slightest clue as to what has happened, and continue to live your life until we meet in the future. The future, of course, will be worse in this case, considering the fact that you won't know what's going on."
"So what you're saying, Doctor, is that no matter what I choose, things are going to end horribly for me?"
He simply nodded.
"Well alright then," I said, "I suppose I'll have to travel with you."
The Doctor grinned and took my hand. "Let's get a move on then, shall we?" With his other hand, he opened the door that lead out of the TARDIS and stepped outside.
I remained within the walls of the big blue box. Whatever was out there was going to be life-changing, and I'd almost felt like I'd had enough events for one day. But of course, as the Doctor stepped further into the universe surrounding us, I was pulled out the door with him.
I was amazed by the sight around me. I was expecting something out of the show, something familiar yet dangerous. But the things I was seeing were far beyond familiar, and felt somehow... Safe.
In the distance, a single tower sat on a flat plain. The sky was a beautiful pale green, a color completely new to my eyes. It was strange looking up and not seeing clouds, but it wasn't a bad thing either.
And then there was the ground. The ground was absolutely amazing because it wasn't there. It was like walking on glass. The strange thing about the ground, though, was the people. Every once in a while, a random, beautiful person would appear out of nowhere behind the glass and tap several times.
The Doctor took a few steps, then turned back to look at me. "This is going to be fun."
