Chapter 54
Jodie had her hands wrapped around the mug of hot chocolate that she had ordered, mulling over what to say to Taylor about the argument she'd had with Marshall in the car before he'd dropped her off at the nail bar. Taylor sat opposite with her chin resting on her hand as the other stirred her drink with a spoon. The action was something she tended to do when she was getting inpainted.
''You know you don't have to tell me if you don't want to; right?'' Taylor spoke up cutting the silence that had settled in between the two. Jodie shifted uncomfortably in her seat, biting her lower lip and taking one final deep breath Jodie finally decided to speak.
''We argued about money,'' Jodie shrugged, lifting her mug to take a sip; it was still hot, but not hot enough to burn her mouth anymore.
''I'm gonna need more information than that if you want me to help you, Jo,'' Taylor pointed out, gesturing towards her with her spoon, which splashed droplets of coffee onto the wooden table they were sat at.
''Like I need to know what did you say. How'd it start? How'd it end? That kind of stuff you know so I can give you some actual advice,'' Taylor continued, breaking up a cookie that she had brought and popped a piece in her mouth. Jodie took the opportunity to talk as Taylor wouldn't speak with her mouth so full.
''So I just brought up how people with lots of money could make people like me intimidated and can feel as if you're being bribed when people with loads of money constantly pay or buy things for you.'' Taylor spluttered a little as she chocked on her drink. A couple of strangers looked at them when, but upon seeing that she was ok, went back to their business.]
''You said you felt like you were being bribed,'' Taylor repeated; Jodie nodded, ''Jesus christ Jo, why, would you say that Marshall like actually likes you. He isn't bribing you.''
''I know I said that to him, but I also said he was flaunting his wealth by offering to pay for getting our nails done.''
''Wait hold up. He offered to pay for getting our nails done and you told him to stop flaunting his wealth,'' Taylor sat wide-eyed staring at Jodie, ''are you sure that doctor removed the whole tumour. I could have got a bikini wax instead of having to do it myself when I get home.''
''Taylor that's not the point,'' Jodie whinned.
''So is,'' she mumbled in response, placing her elbows on the table before getting back to the original point or what Jodie felt the original point was by adding, ''so let me guess he then thought you were calling him selfish.''
''Yeah, how did you figure that out?''
''I've had my fair share of boyfriends Jo I know how they think,'' Taylor shrugged, leaning back in her chair a little, ''so then what did you say to that?'' She asked raising an eyebrow.
''I then said how we have multiple Jobs just to pay out bills and...'' However, she didn't get to finish as Taylor stood up wandered around to Jodie's side, hauled her up out of the chair so fast that she nearly didn't grab her handbag and coat in time. ''Whoa, where are we going?''
''For a little trip,'' Taylor responded as they made their way to her car, ''get in,'' her demanding tone, caused Jodie to shrink back and little, but never the less she got in the passenger seat of Taylor's car.
''Where are we going?'' Jodie tried again but was met with stony silence and Taylor started the car and rolled out onto the main road. So instead she sat staring out the window, watching as the city flashed by. They'd only been on the road around ten minutes when Taylor pulled up in front of a little independent owned looking shop.
''Wait here, I'll be back,'' too scared to say anything thing, Jodie just nodded and watched as Taylor jumped out of the car and into the shop. Jodie wasn't waiting long because within a few minutes the driver side opened again and Taylor hopped back in thrusting a CD at her.
''Put it in and we're gonna drive around to it,'' Jodie stared down at the album that had just been given to her. The cover was purple, with a bright moon in the background, while a car with what appeared to be a body hanging out of the boot. Two figures stood on the edge of a fenced-off, what Jodie would call a pier, the figures appeared to be an adult and child. It was only when she read the title that Jodie realised why it had been given to her; 'The Slim Shady LP Eminem.'
Knowing that her staring would piss Taylor off, Jodie opened the case and slid the CD into the car's player.
''Ya gonna listen to these songs, ready,'' Taylor spoke and Jodie nodded waiting for Taylor to list them, ''Brain damage, If I had, Rock bottom, as the world turns and might as well listen to 97' bonnie and Clyde so you don't try and piss him off again.''
Jodie didn't say a thing she just skipped to track six and listened from there. Taylor meanwhile prayed to god that Jodie would learn something about Marshall's lifestyle before he was famous. In truth, she saw them having an argument sooner or later, mainly because Jodie had never really listened to Marshall as Eminem. As Jodie skipped to listen to 'If I had', Taylor parked up at the gas station.
''I need to fill up, but keep listening ok,'' Jodie nodded in silence and so Taylor got out leaving her in the car to listen alone.

''I think you both overreacted just saying,'' Denaun, held his hands up spinning around on his chair. Marshall had filled him and Royce in on the argument he'd had with Jodie.
''Yeah, but would should I do?'' Marshall asked, fiddling with the pen in his hands. He'd been nervous to tell them about the argument he'd had with Jodie, but he knew he needed them to help him fix it or at least try.
''Hmm, maybe explain that once you were just like her, you know scrounging around for money working two jobs, getting kicked out unable to afford shit for Hailie,'' Royce shrugged, from where he was leaning again the wall in the corner of the room.
''Surely she already knows that, like I talked about it all the time when I first started.''
''Dude, she only knew you for being the rapper Eminem, she doesn't listen to hip-hop she ain't got a clue about what you said in your raps when starting up in general either,'' Denaun explained, causing Marshall to pick his head up and look at him.
''Wait she, knows who I am, but had never listened to my music?''
''Yeah basically, she's more into punk and rock stuff so she's never really branched out to rap music-wise, why?''
''Cause she doesn't know about my struggles she just knows about the fame that's why doofus. That shit she said, she probably wouldn't have said it if she knew,'' Marshall ran his hands down his face letting out a groan of frustration.
''Wait you never told her about your past,'' Royce chipped in, to which both Marshall and Denaun shook their heads, ''why not?'' He then asked.
''Because I assumed she knew,'' Marshall responded.
''Yeah, that's your problem right there.''
''Thanks for your the excellent detective work man, so didn't just figure that out right before you said it,'' Marshall's voice dripped with sarcasm as he stood up grabbing his car keys.
''Whoa where you going?'' Both of his friends piped up.
''To talk to my girlfriend,'' he was out the door before either could protest.
