Chapter 39

''Good Morning Miss Kingsly,'' the doctor greeted Jodie just as she was stuffing her face with a doughnut that Marshall had brought her for breakfast. Yes, it wasn't the healthiest option, but she'd been craving something super sugary so a hot chocolate and jam doughnut for breakfast, was something she really needed.

''Hello,'' Jodie mumbled in response, trying desperately not to spray chunks of doughnut everywhere.

''I think I'll overlook the diet this morning,'' the doctor rose an eyebrow as Jodie continued to lick off the sugar coating her fingers, ''I'm here to tell you that we have booked you an appointment to remove the tumour next week.''

''Next week,'' Marshall pipped up in a disapproving tone. He had expected them to be able to remove it as soon as possible and definitely not a whole week later.

''Unfortunately Mr Mathers this is a fully functioning, busy hospital. Next weeks appointment was the earliest I could schedule,'' shaking his head, but succumbing to the doctor's words, Marshall went silent once again.

''So do I have to stay here all week then?'' Jodie asked, her face falling a little. Not even the doughnut she'd just had could have lifted her mood if she found out she had to stay in the same hospital room until her scheduled appointment.

''No, no of course not, I have your discharge papers right. You are well enough to go home, but I do recommend that you don't consume any alcohol and that you are not left alone in case you suffer another fainting episode.''

''Er, um ok. I guess I better call my mum and stay with my parents until my operation,'' Jodie, immediately went to look for her phone and frowned when she didn't see it on the little table by the bed, where she had left it during the night, ''where's my...'' she stopped herself when she saw Marshall flipping it between his hands.

''You're staying with me. I can look after you, I'll take ya to the studio and you can watch me work, you know cause I don't want you to get bored at your parent's place,'' Marshall explained, placing the phone in his jean pocket so that Jodie could swipe it from him.

''I don't want to be a burden,'' Jodie stuttered.

''Hell no. Ya never know you might like it so much you'll move in,'' Marshall grinned as Jodie shook her head. She wasn't so sawing about that.

''I thought these leaflets were supposed to calm you down, not make it seem more scary,'' Jodie mumbled as she scanned over the leaflet she had been given regarding her operation and the side effects it could cause.

''Then don't read it simple,'' Marshall commented, glancing quickly over at her, before turning his attention back on the road.

''But I need to so that I can make preparations about having to learn to walk again,'' Jodie snapped flinging the leaflet on the dashboard, ''I don't wanna have to learn to walk again,'' she muttered.

''What do you mean, learning to walk again?'' Marshall asked as he pulled up onto Jodie's driveway behind the car her and Taylor shared. Jodie had asked if she could pack a few things while she stayed round his. She had somehow also convinced him to let her bring Blink and as he unbuckled his seatbelt he started to think that it wasn't maybe his best move.

''It's one of the side effects on the operation, that and loss of speech. Depending on where the tumour is based,'' Jodie added hoping out of the car, leaving Marshall with an open mouth and many questions. So many questions that before he left the car to follow her, he grabbed the leaflet off the dashboard.

''There some good things on here though,'' he pointed out, following behind her into the house.

''Like what?'' she turned around frowning at him.

''You can have sex straight after treatment,'' Marshall grinned dodging the blow she was sending his way, ''hey violence is never the answer,'' he reached out to tickle her, making her run squealing up the stairs, nearly knocking poor Blink over as he sat absentmindedly on the top of the stairs.

''Right there's a couple of rules ya going to have to follow if you'll be staying with me,'' Marshall piped up from the doorway as he watched Jodie dig around for her suitcase.

''Yeah, and what are they?'' she called back as she disappeared further into her wardrobe, confirming to Marshall that it had to be some sort of Tardis.

''I get to choose what underwear you're taking with you and...''

''Imma cut, you off right now,'' Jodie turned around, abandoning her search for her suitcase, ''you do that and it's you're responsibility to get Blink in his crate,'' she pointed at the small cat travel case that stood at the foot of her bed.

''And if I get him in, I really get to choose?'' He asked referring to the underwear situation.

''Yeah sure, whatever,'' Jodie responded waving him off.

''Challenge accepted. Better not touch those panties till I do,'' he pointed out grabbing the cat crate and running off with it. Leaving, Jodie to stand with her hands on her hips, shaking her head.

''I can't fucking believe you managed to get him in the crate, without a single scratch,'' Jodie couldn't believe her eyes when she comes downstairs after finishing her packing to find Marshall sat at the foot of the stairs, with Blink sat quietly in his crate.

''Some people are just born with the ability to be the goat at everything,'' he shrugged, placing a finger between the bars and Jodie watched as Blink licked it effectively, ''see he likes it. Now I believe we had a deal,'' Jodie just rolled her eyes, stomping back up the stairs as Marshall followed her a smug grin plastered across his face.

''Wait, where are ya going,'' Marshall called over his shoulder as Jodie went to leave him in the room.

''There is no way in hell I'm watching you go through my underwear drawer. I'm going to finish packing Blinks stuff,'' Marshall shrugged waving her off.

Jodie had made her way into the kitchen, still shaking her head over Marshall's behaviour. Although it did allow her to forget about her problems for a few moments. That was until her phone rung.

''You read it yet?''

''Oh, hello to you too Joe. I'm doing fine, by the way, thanks for asking. Oh wait for silly me I'm not ok, but you never asked so...''

''Wait what do you mean you're not ok. Did you break up with Marshall cause if you did...'' Jodie cut him off before she heard him say what she thought he was going to say.

''No, you idiot, i've got a medial thing, which I'm not discussing with you now. And to answer you're rather forward question I have read it and you know what?'' She paused.

''What?'' Joe asked, getting rathe impatient over the phone.

''You can go to hell,'' smiling to herself Jodie hung up and continued her search for Blink's food.
