Chapter 36

''Don't look at me like that,'' Blink just stared up at Jodie from her bed, she was getting ready to go to sleep, but the events of the evening where very much imprinted on her brain. The look on Marshall's face when she told him they couldn't hang out, to the diary entry she had forgotten all about.  Joe having read her diary made every even worse because Jodie was sure he now out get her.

''What do you think, should I tell Marshall or not?'' Jodie posed the question to Blink, who just purred as she scratched behind his ear a little, ''off course you can't tell, me you're just a cat,'' she sighed falling backwards to lay haphazardly on the bed, one had still running along Blink's furry body.

Her eyes were just slowly starting to droop down as she was on the brink of sleep when her phone ringtone jolted her awake. Frowning, she leaned over to the nightstand, where she'd placed her phone, wondering who was calling her so late at night. When Mum flashed across the caller ID, however, she instantly started to worry.

''Hi Mum, everything ok?'' Having a phone call from your Mum in the middle of the night was enough to make any rational person clog up with worry.

''Perhaps I'm the one that should be asking you that question?'' now Jodie was just plain confused and unsure as to how to respond to her mother's rather ambiguous greeting.

''What do you mean?''

''I've been holding this from you for a while, but now I'm really starting to worry about it,'' again, Jodie was left clueless as to what her Mum was on about. Various scenarios started to form in her mind, even the thought of her Mum not wanting Marshall to come to her niece's wedding. Although the fact she'd divulge that on a phone call didn't sit well with Jodie as it just wasn't her Mum.

''Starting to worry about what Mum? Because your starting to worry me,'' Jodie exclaimed trying to get her Mum to the point before she started to fall asleep again. She could already feel her eyelids starting to droop once again, it had been a long night and what she really needed was a nice long sleep.

''Maddie and swimming, does that ring any bells?'' Her mother responded.

''What do you mean Maddie and swimming?'' Jodie asked before then realising what her Mum had meant, ''I was supposed to pick Maddie up from swimming. Oh god, I totally forgot, I'm so sorry,'' a wave of washed over her, that was another reason this night hadn't been the best; now she'd even forgotten to pick Maddie up from her swimming lesson, which she'd promised to do. The worst part was that Jodie now realised that Maddie was really upset.

''I had to tell Maddie that you were feeling Ill and so that was why I had to go and because I'd been shopping that was why I was late,'' her tone was a clear example of not angry but disappointed, with a hint of being slightly worried.

''Is that why you're worried because I forgot to pick Maddie up. Mum, I'm fine, also why didn't you ring me when you realised I hadn't come?'' Jodie questioned.

''Because I knew you were ok in once sense, but in another I'm worried.''

''Mum I still don't understand, what are you worried about?'' Jodie was confused, how could her Mum still have been worried even though she knew Jodie was ok.

''You've been forgetting things a lot lately. I only just realised it after today. You forgot to come to lunch a couple of Sundays ago, you were late for your shift at work because you thought it was Monday when it was Saturday. Also, you've been sick a lot lately and don't you dare say you haven't because Taylors worried about you throwing up in the middle of the night and on occasion during work. That's why I'm worried,''  her mother's explanation hit Jodie square in the chest.

''I'm sick when I'm stressed and I don't have a good memory. There's nothing to worry about Mum,'' Jodie replied, knowing full well that there was indeed nothing wrong with her.

''I still want you to go to the doctor about it for the throwing up part at least, please promise me that Jodie,'' knowing that the conversation was probably never going to end and Jodie wanted to get some much-needed rest she responded by promising she'd schedule an appoint before they both hung up on each other.

''I think if I had a problem I'd know about it,'' she muttered, placing her phone back down on the nightstand, ''come on Blink tome for bed,'' picking the fluff ball up in her arms she tiptoed across the room to open the door and place him outside.

Ever since Jodie saw Marshall's expression when he noticed that Blink near enough lived in her room, Jodie had gradually been introducing him to sleeping on the landing. Most of his toys were out there now along with his bed. Blink would also no longer come scratching at the door in the middle of the night.

Once Blink was safely out on the landing Jodie made her way back to her room. Breathing a sigh of relief she finally managed to snuggle underneath the duvet. Her Bliss was short-lived as her phone begun to ring again. Huffing, thinking it was her Mum again Jodie reached over to answer the phone.

''Yes?''

''So you read the pages I marked yet?''

''Oh fuck off,'' hanging up, she turned the phone off knowing that he'd probably call again. Her sleep had been disrupted enough anyway.

''Jodie,'' Taylor yelled from the opposite side of the bathroom door, ''are you ok?''

''Yes I'm fine, just another stomach bug I think,'' Taylor sighed as she heard Jodie vomiting from the other side of the door.

''You need to stop thinking that every time, somethings wrong and you need to go to the doctor.''

''You sound like my mother and I'm...'' Taylor frowned as Jodie didn't finish her sentence.

''Jodie?'' She called out, but there was no reply, ''Jodie?'' she called again but was met with more silence, ''I'm coming in,'' pulling the handle of the door to the bathroom down she opened it just a little, unsure as to what had caused Jodie to suddenly stop speaking.

''Oh my god, Jodie,'' Taylor rushed over to her housemate and friend, who lay sprawled beside the toilet very much unconscious.

Taylor's brain seemed to stop working, she tried to get Jodie to wake up and open her eyes, but everything she tried didn't work. it was only then that she rushed out of the room to find and phone and call for an ambulance. Once that was done, she decided to ring Marshall. Finding his number scrawled on a piece of paper on the calendar in Jodie's room (Jodie always wrote people's phone numbers down and putting them on her calendar, Taylor never understood why, until now).

''If this is some bitch who thinks Imma sleep with them cause I did 10 years ago you can kindly fuck off now.''

''Charming, is that how you speak to everyone who calls you?'' Taylor asked a little taken aback by his greeting.

''Oh hey, Taylor, why you ringing me at like eight in the morning too?'' She could hear the confusion in his voice and she didn't blame him.

''Jodie won't wake up, I've called an ambulance, but I don't know what else to do,'' Taylor's voice shook as the longer Jodie remained unmoving on the ground the more she began to panic.

''Fuck,'' was all Marshall answered with.
