Chapter 28

''You've made him mad now, he was in a good mood till you showed up,'' Denuan announced as he a Royce watched Marshall twirl his pen between his fingers with a scowl on his face.

''How the fuck does Joe know Jodie? that's what's up,'' Marshall grumbled tossing his notebook and pen against the soundboard; it would have rested neatly on top, but he'd thrown it to hard and the sound of paper hitting the carpeted floor followed along with the clunk of the pen that followed soon after.

''That's a good point, he tell you that?'' Denaun nodded, now in thought. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't thinking the same thing, especially since he'd known Jodie a while and she'd never brought up the fact she'd known him.

''I mean I was kinda not listening,'' Royce put his hands up in defence as the glare Marshall gave him was a sure attempt at trying to get him to burst into a ball of flames. Well, at least that's how Ryan felt.

''You said ya was listening when he brought up Jodie, so what'd he say man cause I ain't having him trying to hit on her,'' Marshall bluntly stated after picking his book up off the floor, placing it then on the table.

''Ok ok,'' he started by placing his hands in front of him in a gesture that clearly told Marshall to calm down, otherwise, he wasn't going to get his explanation.  Once he was sure Marshall was in the right state of mind to listen to him, Royce started retelling the events of the night before.

''So Joe texted me asking to come over after Saturday night was a bit of a bust, which I now feel like had something to do with Jodie,'' he began speaking, but Marshall already had a question and so cut him off.

''Wait what happened Saturday?''

''Joe wanted to go out and suggested Jodie's dad's place. So we went out, had like one drink before he started saying it was boring and wanted to leave. Now I think about it Jodie kinda seemed a little off when he sat down, so maybe she got him to leave,'' Royce shrugged, watching marshall shake his head a little.

''So that was Saturday?'' Marshall quested and Ryan shrugged, ''ok what about Sunday then?''

''Right, um... at the start I had really know Idea what the fuck he was saying, cause he started going on about you and I zoned out like I normally do cause he just goes on and on. Anyway, he brought up Jodie saying how she had no right to be upset with him and he just wanted a practical conversation with her, but she kept shutting him out. Oh he also said something about seeing her at the ice rink and she kept shutting him out,'' Royce sucked in as he realised that he'd spoken far to quickly and had forgotten to breathe during the final parts of his explanation.

''Did he mention what she was upset about,'' Porter asked the question before Marshall could, taking the words off of the tip of his tongue.

''Nah, just said she had no right to be. Fuck maybe I should have asked that'' Royce cursed himself, scuffing the bottom of his shoe of the carpet in frustration.

''Jodie ever mentioned Joe before man?'' Marshall's question was aimed at Denaun who initially shook his head.

''Nope, she only spoke about this guy Robert, who kept asking her out,'' Denuan shrugged as if it was no big deal till he saw the wide eyes of Marshall staring at him, ''but he ain't got nothing on you, plus as long as I've known her she keeps shutting him down so...'' He trailed off in fear that he might say something that'd make Marshall kick-off at him.

''You know what I'mma call her get her to come here,'' digging into his jean pocket Marshall fished out his phone, ''she'll have nearly finished work right? Should I call the Diner or her?''

''Don't think she's allowed her phone so I'd call the Diner and ask for her,'' Porter responded. If he wasn't afraid of upsetting Marshall he would have told him not to have the conversation with her until later so as to not make her paranoid about why he wanted to see her. But like on many occasions Denuan kept his opinion to himself.

Nodding Marshall took his advice and looked up the number for the Diner. It took him a couple of goes until he finally got through. The chef answered a little begrudgingly and asked what he wanted.

''Er, could I speak to Jodie please?'' He asked, crossing his fingers in hope that the chef wouldn't just hang up on him.

''Jodie someone's on the phone,'' Marshall had to hold the phone away from his ear as the chef shouted not only to the Diner but down the phone too, ''ya lucky she was just about to leave.''

''Hello?'' When Jodie's voice came through the receiver he felt a wave of calm fall across him, even if he was still a little confused and mad about the whole Joe situation.

''It's Marshall. You able to come by the studio like now, cause the chef said you were about to leave anyway?'' He asked not really in the mood for a conversation over the phone, he'd rather have it in person.

''Yeah, let me just get home and change...'' Jodie was cut off mid-sentence due to Marshall's impatience of the whole situation.

''Nah just come as you are,'' he stated bluntly, mentally cursing himself at how hostile he sounded. He wasn't trying to be mad at her, but his mind was all over the place and he'd always had trouble at managing his emotions especially when it came to anger.

''Um ok, I just needa clock out and get my stuff,'' Jodie had taken a short pause before she'd replied. Marshall cursed himself again he hadn't wanted her to get upset before he'd even brought up what he wanted to talk about.

''Ok I'll see you soon then, I'll text ya the address just in case.''

''Yeah,'' then unexpectedly she hung up.

''Fuck,'' he swore to throw his phone down in the chair he'd been sat in as he stood. With Denaun's and Ryan questioning eyes falling over him he blurted out, '' she knows somethings up,'' he sighed running his hand down his face.

''I mean you didn't have sound so robotic-like, that's why,'' Denaun and Royce then started mimicking Marshall's voice.

''Yo it's not funny. She probably thinks I'm fucking around after what happened last night,'' Marshall felt the heat rise across his back and neck, afraid Jodie would take his request the wrong way.

''It'll be fine Jodie's a pretty understanding person. She'll be aware you don't like Joe. Don't sweat it, man,'' Royce clamped his hand on Marshall's shoulder to try and ease his nerves.

''Yeah you're right I'll be fine,'' he muttered, ''I guess.''
