Chapter 14

Much like Jodie had expected Taylor was asleep the time she got home, which meant she was bombarded with questions at breakfast the next morning. One of the strangest was that Talyor asked what he smelt like; it's safe to say Jodie excused herself for work before she gave her answer. Either way, she didn't exactly know how to answer it.

The morning at the Diner was like any other morning, right up until Denaun walked in for his usual breakfast. The only difference was that Jodie knew exactly what the topic of the conversation would be.

''So am I gonna experience a moody Marshall or a happy one today?'' He didn't even bother saying hello; that question was his greeting.

''Hopefully a happy one,'' Jodie shrugged as she placed his food in front of him, ''surprised he didn't say how it went,'' she added leaning over the counter.

''Depends, if it ended early then he may have sent me a text, but I'm guessing it ended late last night,'' Denaun wigged his eyebrows and Jodie rolled her eyes laughing a little.

''It wasn't that late although I had a feeling if I didn't have work today then we could have easily have spent all night on that rooftop,'' Jodie admitted resting her hand on her chin, thinking about what could have happened if she didn't have work.

''Well at least you enjoyed yourself, you take him home in the end too or did he get a taxi?'' Denaun asked shovelling a forkful of food into his mouth.

''Yeah I took him home, but that was it because I had work this morning and make sure you got your breakfast,'' Jodie pointed out as she picked up his empty plate, he had left his knife and fork on it too.

''I am flattered you care about me. Anyway, I'll see ya later right,'' Jodie nodded and offered a wave as he left money for his breakfast on the table for her to collect a little be later.

''You talk to Jodie this morning?'' Marshall spits the question out as soon as Denaun stepped an inch into the room; only the very tip of his shoe was in fact in contact with the carpet of the studio. Also, Marshall had had his back to the door so it was rather impressive that he knew who had, in fact, walked in; for all anybody was aware of it could have been Paul.

''Er yeah she seemed happy if that's what ya wanna know,'' Denuan replied shrugging his coat off and draping it over one of the various chairs that were scattered across the room.

''So you think if I asked her to lunch she'd yes?'' Marshall questioned, he'd been itching to ask her since he'd woken up that morning, but part of him wanted to know if he was just wasting his time or not, yeah they'd kissed, but then she wanted to leave and it sent him mixed emotions.

''What you asking me for as her then you'll know her answer; I ain't no mind reader.''

''Well ya should be,'' Marshall fired back before he pulled Jodie's contact information up,'' what time do you think she'll see it?'' he then turned serious again as he asked the question.

''I got an idea for ya get off ya ass and go to the diner and ask her in person, simple,'' Denaun shrugged like it was the most obvious thing in the world, ''or if you're too scared I'll go with you.''

''I ain't scared to be fucking turned down,'' Marshall bit back pointing a figure in his friends' direction.

''What makes you think you're gonna get turned down; from what I heard she'd have spent all night with you if she could dude,'' Denaun explained, hoping to persuade Marshall by resaying what Jodie had told him earlier that morning.

''She really that?'' Marshall's ears perked up and a little glint emerged in his eye, that was the age-old sign that he was getting excited.

''Yes, now are you gonna go ask her?''

''Fuck yeah,'' without a second look he darted out the door. Only to return a few seconds later  a sheepish expression etched across his face, ''um could you take me, I kinda forgot where the diner is?'' His friend just shook his head smirking, before grabbing his coat and pulling it back on as he followed Marshall out the door.

Minutes later after another joke from Denaun about whether he needed to hold Marshall's' hand or not, which he responded with the figure causing a chuckle to occur from his friend. The bell of the small diner jingled as Marshall pushed the door open; stepping over the threshold he noticed how busy the place appeared to be. He'd only been in once with Denaun, but that was a weekend when a lot of people wouldn't need breakfast out and on the cheap before work.

He looked overheads and looked at each waitress him came across hoping one of them would be Jodie. In the end, he was starting to feel a little awkward as he's stayed close by the door meaning he'd have to move out of the way each time someone came in or wanted to leave. It wasn't until a waiter approached him that he realised he'd been standing there way too long.

''Are you, ok Sir,'' Marshall wanted nothing more, but to ignore him, but he might just be the best bet he had at finding Jodie.

''Um I was looking for Jodie, I wanted to ask her something,'' Marshall frowned as the waiter appeared to take in a deep breath as well as a gulp before he answered Marshall's question.

''She's right over there by the bar, but she's pretty busy so good luck getting her attention,'' Marshall was sure the waiter was hiding something as he tone seemed to change when he mentioned getting her attention might be hard.

''Um thanks, I'll just head over there then,'' he sent an awkward nod towards the waiter before making his way over the counter/bar area.

Sure enough, Marshall spotted Jodie immediately over the heads of the people that occupied the bar stools. Many of them were chatting together while they waited for their orders. Luckily there was one chair left and Marshall hoped on it. Unfortunately, when Jodie approached him she was too busy getting her pen and paper out to notice who it was sat in front of her.

''Hi what can I get you today sir,'' Marshall let out a chuckle at how exhausted she sounded. The sound alone caused her head to pick up and he rather enjoyed the surprised look she had when she finally noticed him.

''Oh god I didn't realise I'm so sorry,'' she apologised stuffing her pen and paper back into the pocket of her apron, knowing that he didn't want anything to eat.

''Nah it's ok that guy warned me your attention would be hard to get,'' Marshall brushed off her apology, placing his elbows on the surface to look up at her.

''Yeah Robert would say that,'' Jodie mumbled, Marshall caught it, but didn't bother to question it mainly because Robert was the least of his worries.

''I came because I wanted to ask you to lunch, depending on what time you got off that is?'' Marshall but his lip as he waited for her to respond. He was left for a few seconds to watch her tuck a loose strand of her behind her ear before she leaned across the table to give him her answer.

''I get off at one so how about you buy the lunch and you can come round mine. How's that sound?'' She suggested. Now it was her turn to wait for his answer.

''Sounds great text me your address and what time when you get a chance cause I'm definitely gonna be there,'' Jodie smiled as he stood up giving her a miny salute, ''see ya later Jo,'' leaving Jodie to stand with a longing smile on her face as she watched him leave. She only snapped out of it when a customer rudely asked her why their order was taking so long when they'd only ordered to about three seconds ago.
