Chapter Twenty
It took a bit before Artemis calmed down and cleaned the muck off the floor as Andrew stood nearby, watching closely, not wanting to interrupt their thought process. Finally, Artemis turned and moved closer wrapping their arms tightly around him. He immediately held them close once more kissing their head sweetly. "I love you," he whispered into their hair softly.
They grinned and looked up towards him, humming for a moment before standing on their tiptoes to kiss his neck. His eyes fluttered for a moment, before looking back down to them and smirked, "Talk to me, darling..." his fingers graced gently over the nape of their neck and they sighed softly. "You've got me wrapped up in you... I just want to know more about you and what you need."
They laughed softly, "You don't have to do anything. Let's just go out together... I want to be with you tonight..."
He couldn't help but smile at the thought, nodding as they pulled back to go get dressed and do their makeup if they so chose. Whether they did or not, it didn't matter to him, knowing that they were comfortable.
They came back wearing a pair of black jeans, platform boots, and a lavender crop top. It felt new and different to Andrew to witness, the confidence that came from them. "...you look...stunning."
They smiled and wrapped their arm around his lightly. "Lets go have a night out." It was a quiet wish but longing and peace radiated from them as they headed towards the door, pulling Andrew along who merely grinned, following like a puppy, appreciation for their mood change and love for them as a person painted clearly on his face.
...
Andrew had no idea what to expect as Artemis gave directions to Old Market as they called it. Insisting that he would enjoy it as much they did. Something about how they spoke about it electrified him, making his heart lurch to life with excitement wanting to experience the things that made them bloom like he had shown them in Ireland.
Parking in an out of the way parking garage, he couldn't help laugh seeing their excitement in the dying light as the sun started to set. Listening closely, he could hear jazz music coming from a few blocks away, a thrill of excitement striking him as their eyes glimmered pulling him along towards the noise and chatter of people.
Wrapping his hand around theirs, following their lead as the noises of people, music and hoofbeats filled the air as the beautiful glow of neon and low light filled the void the twilight brought. His green eyes looked around taking in the lights that hung from balconies, that hung from canopies and overhangs lining the brick streets. "-drew? Andrew?" Their light voice broke through the chatter, green pools of wonder reflecting the lights as darkness settled, falling on their lips, "what are you in the mood for? Sushi? Burgers? Italian?"
His lips twitched as he leaned down lips brushing their ear lightly, "Take me anywhere, I want to see what draws you in even more. I'm enchanted already."
"Then we'll go somewhere special-" their voice breathed back catching his lips for a split second before pulling him ahead eagerly towards a storefront, that looked plain at first until the door opened, leaning into a horror themed restaurant, asking for two menus they were guided off to a coffin shaped table under a replica of the creature from the black lagoon.
His eyes wandered as Artemis moved close, settling against him. "I didn't think there would be something like this here-" he whispered turning his gaze everywhere before looking to Artemis who had already ordered a drink with a grin, taking a sip.
Eventually as the night progressed, stopping in candy shops and record shops, dancing on the street, laughing and drunk on time spent together they embraced tightly kissing deeply, foreheads pressed together, nothing else seeming important in the moment than the joy they shared.
Andrew's arms wrapped around their small frame firmly, picking them up to twirl them for a moment, feeling their fingers cupping his cheeks, smile unable to be hidden. The floodgate of emotions pouring out.
Looking into their stormy eyes, something clicked, pulling them closer, fingers tracing their features lightly, drunk on the moment, the lights, the feelings- truly there was nothing to blame, even hearing soft whispers he didn't care. They didn't care. This was where something was changing.
Nothing mattered more than the moment they shared.
