Chapter Six
"Please, leave me be." He begged.
"Why?" I asked and I felt Dan wrap his arms around me.
"Because," he said. "I like being dead."
"Why do you like being dead?" Dan and I asked at the same time.
Mark sighed and looked down at the ground.
"I don't know if I should tell you." He muttered. "You'd probably just try and restore me anyway."
"We won't." I promised. "And on top of that, it'd be our little secret."
"You really mean that?" He asked, looking back up to me.
I smiled and said, "Of course."
He smiled back and paused for a few moments before he began speaking.
"Well, my dad just died and my mom can't handle it." He said. "She even stopped working because she just completely lost it. I can't imagine what would happen to her if she found me dead."
"Then why do you want to be dead?" Dan asked. "Why do that to your mom?"
"Well, I had a vision." He said. "It was of my mom and I driving somewhere. We both end up getting into a car accident and dying. Now, this vision can't come true if I'm already dead can it?"
"I guess not." I said. "But you realize that if I don't restore you by the blood moon's end that you'll be stuck like this forever, right?"
"Of course I realize that." I said. "I'm not dumb."
"So, what do you want?" Dan asked. "You have to make the choice now."
He was silent for a moment before saying, "You guys have made this decision so hard for me. I thought that I knew I wanted to be dead but I'm not so sure."
"Well, you can think about it and get back to us." I said. "Do you want to do it that way?"
He smiled and said, "Yes. I'd like that. Thank you."
"You're welcome." I said. "Now think really hardly about your decision."
"I will." He said as he began to fade away. "Don't you worry."
When he was completely gone, Dan turned me so that I was facing him. But something about him seemed different for some reason. It was strange.
"This is going to sound really crazy," I said to me. "but there's something different about you and I just can't put my finger on it."
"Whatever do you mean?" He asked. "I'm perfectly fine."
But that's when I noticed his eyes were pitch black.
"What happened to your eyes?" I asked. "I thought Mark healed you. Or does that happen when you get your blood sucked by a demon?"
"It's just a side effect." He said. "Don't worry. It'll go away in a couple of hours. Now come on. We gotta find this Mat guy."
"Are you sure that it's just a side effect?" I asked, reaching into my bag and grabbing the steel bar. "Let me just check."
"Get that steel away from me!" He hissed, immediately turning into a guy with brown hair somewhat similar to Dan's. He was wearing a black jacket with a Zelda shirt underneath it.
"I knew it." I said, approaching him. "Now, where's Dan?"
"I took care of him while Nate was taking him to his cave." He sneered, backing away slowly. "Little did he know, he was luring me so that I could corner you."
"What did you do with Dan?" I demanded.
"Seriously? Do you even listen?" He asked, rolling his eyes. "Didn't I just say that I took care of him?"
"Tell me where he is and I just might go easy on you." I said.
He laughed and said, "Yeah right. I've seen how you fight. You won't give up. I've been watching you this whole time. I know your every move and I know your weaknesses. You can't beat me, no matter how hard you try."
I charged at him with the steel bar but he just dodged quickly.
"See? I told you!" He said. "You'll never be able to beat me! And guess what? You've only got half an hour before the blood moon is gone. Then, I'll be able to torment you forever."
"We'll just see about that." I said, trying to charge at him again. But he just dodged again.
"Seriously?" He said, now even further away from me than he was the last time he dodged me. "You tried that again? This is so laughable. I'll be able to keep you fighting with no problem at this rate."
Suddenly, someone tackled him and I ran over to him the fastest that I've ever ran in my entire life over to him.
"Quick sis!" Hunter said. "Kill him!"
I pierced the steel bar through his heart and he screamed in agony. He was still for a few seconds before a bright white light overtook him and he was replaced with Matpat, the geekiest kid of the junior class.
"Woah." He said as Hunter stood next to me. "I just had the craziest dream."
"Yeah." Hunter said. "That wasn't a dream. And if you really want to be a good villain, don't talk so much. So many movies' villains would just end up killed if a cliffhanger wasn't required."
I laughed because Hunter always complained about that whenever we watched movies.
"Well, duh." Matpat said as he stood up. "That's obvious. I was only like that because it was a dream and I wasn't in control of my actions."
"Like I said, not a dream." Hunter said. "But you are correct when you say that you didn't have control of your actions."
"So what happened?" Matpat asked.
"I'll let my little sister explain that." Hunter said.
*****
"How cool!" Matpat said. "I could've learned so much about shapeshifters if I actually remembered being one! Ah well. I'll just stick to what I find online."
"Sounds good." Hunter said. "You know, you seem pretty cool. We should hang out sometime."
"Do you happen to larp?"
"Do I?" Hunter asked excitedly.
I laughed and rolled my eyes.
"Looks like you two are going to be great friends." I said.
"Totally." Matpat said. "What's your number? We shall discuss more about larping later."
Hunter told him and Matpat told him his.
"Yeah, I won't remember that." Hunter said.
"Don't worry." Matpat said. "I never forget. I'll text you first."
"Sounds good." He said.
When Matpat was gone, I turned to Hunter and asked, "What the hell are you doing here? Also, thanks for saving my ass back there."
"First off, you're welcome." Hunter said. "Second off, you were running out of time and I thought that you would need the assistance of your awesome big brother."
"But how did you find me?" I asked.
"Please, I go to this cave all the time." Hunter said. "That and I heard screaming so I rushed over here right away."
"Did you happen to see a really super cute guy with brown hair anywhere?" I asked. "Mat was pretending to be him and I don't even know where he is."
"Who, Dan Howell?" Hunter asked.
"How do you know his full name?" I asked. "I never even told you what it was! Wait, I never even told you his first name."
"Heh," he said, running a hand through his hair. "lucky guess."
"Did you read my journal?" I asked.
"It's so fascinating." He said. "You could write a book-"
"Hunter!" I yelled. "I told you that my journal was strictly off-limits!"
"Fin, I guess you don't want to know where lover boy is." He said, crossing his arms.
"No, I do!" I said. "Where is he?"
*****
"Here she is." Hunter said as we met up with Dan. "Don't you dare do anything to hurt her. And don't you dare even-"
"Too far Hunter." I said as he walked up to me and grabbed my hands. I smiled at him and said, "So guess who killed five supernatural creatures in one night?"
"I thought you had to kill six?" Dan asked.
"Well, here's the thing." I said. "The ghost is conflicted if he wants to be alive or not."
"Well, this ghost better hurry up and decide." Hunter said, glancing at his phone. "Because the blood moon sets in five minutes."
Just then, Mark appeared and he looked happy. He walked up to me and said, "I've made my decision. I want to live. I've realized that if I'm going to die anyway, I should just treasure life while I can."
"That's the spirit." I said, getting the supplies in order to restore him. Once the process was complete, the pale white form that was Mark Fischbach turned back into a tan guy with black hair.
"Thanks." He said.
"No problem." I said. "Glad I could help."
"The moon's looking great." He said. It was just about to fade away and the sky still looked a bit red. "Now let's hope that it doesn't turn people into supernatural creatures next time."
We all laughed and Dan turned me do that I was facing him.
"You owe me something." He said. "It's for making me worry about you."
I laughed and kissed him, knowing that that was what he wanted. All in all, tonight was probably one of the best nights of my life. I got to encounter and fight supernatural creatures and the guy I liked actually liked me back.
Would I relive this night again? Totally.
