Chapter Four
I could no longer hear the howling so I was stuck running blindly in the woods, which is never good.
Suddenly, I saw the werewolf. It was standing on top of the cliff, the blood moon allowing me to see its shadow. I readied my gun and took slow steps in order to try and get a bullet through its heart. But once I was in a good place, it darted its head towards me and growled. I aimed blindly and ended up missing it. Now I only had three bullets left. Wonderful.
I ran as it jumped down the cliff and began to pursue me. I knew that I couldn't outrun it because, just like vampires, werewolves were fast too. But distance was going to be my friend in the situation because if that werewolf ends up catching me, I was dead meat. Literally.
I tried to take a sharp turn in order to make it stumble a bit and it worked. I took that as an opportunity to go for the heart once more. I thought that I had actually struck it because the werewolf was dead still for a few moments. But it growled and began chasing me once more. Two bullets left.

I don't know how long I've been running, but I now see the very end of the woods. I looked behind me and now that the werewolf was, to my surprise, a fair distance away from me. How that happened is a mystery to me but I was beyond thankful for it.
I ran out of the woods with the werewolf still pursuing me. I saw a dead squirrel laying on the sidewalk part of the road and knew what I should try, as much as I didn't want to do it. But I had to take a chance. I was getting tired of running and I was going to run out of time if I didn't kill this werewolf soon.
Using the silver stake, I picked up the dead squirrel from the road and held it out, hoping the werewolf would smell it. After a few moments, it did. It stopped dead in his tracks in fact.
"Come here." I said in the most soothing voice I could muster. "You must be tired from all that running. Come have something to eat."
It still didn't budge. I didn't blame it.
"It's okay." I said. "I'm not going to hurt you."
It took one tiny step and then stopped.
"Well, if you don't want it," I said. "I guess I'll have to give it to someone else."
That's when he ran over and began devouring the squirrel. I quickly picked up the gun and aimed it right at the chest area. I pulled the trigger and got a direct hit. It shrieked in pain and fell over. I put the gun away and went over to it.
"Come on." I whispered. "Please don't be dead."
Suddenly, a blinding white light appeared and I shielded my eyes until it went away. In place of the wolf that was previously laying on the ground was a tall guy with brown hair. And I knew who he was in a heartbeat.
"Dan?" I asked, shocked. "I-is that you?"
He opened his eyes and sat up.
"Woah, what happened?" He asked. "The last thing I remember is being with my friends."
"It's a really long story." I said. "Way too long to explain."
"No, I want to know." He said.
Why didn't I learn from the previous two?
*****
"So, you saved me?" He asked.
"Yeah." I said. "I guess you could say that."
Suddenly, he threw himself on top of me and hugged me.
"Woah there." I said, hugging him back. "What was that for?"
He got off of me and sat up, taking my hands and dragging me up with him. I could feel myself start to blush as he put his arm around me.
"For literally saving my life." He said. "I thought you were awesome before but now you're a badass to me."
"You thought I was awesome?" I asked, feeling the blush on my face growing more and more as time passed.
"Totally." He said, starting to blush as well. "I actually kinda thought you were cute. I also kinda had a crush on you. And by had, I mean I do."
"Really?" I asked, trying my best not to freak out. "I've had a crush on you for the longest time. Like, you have no idea."
He smiled and he started to lean towards me. I leaned towards him and the next thing I knew, we were kissing. I was trying my best not to freak out. I was actually kissing a guy that I actually liked! I really hope that this doesn't turn out to be some freaky dream.
"So, you want to go monster hunting together?" He asked after the kiss.
"You should probably go home." I said, quickly glancing down to see that he was holding my hand. "Your parents are probably worried sick about you."
"Yours are probably too." He said.
"Oh, they don't know I'm doing this." I said for the third time tonight. "They're out at a party with some friends."
"But I don't want you getting hurt." He said. "What kind of person would I be if I didn't go with you?"
"Dan, I'm serious." I said, standing up but still holding his hand. "Go home. I'll be fine. I've already taken care of two vampires and a werewolf tonight. I'll be fine."
"No." He said, standing up. "I'm going with you and that's the end of it."
"Dan, you're going to regret this." I said.
"No, I won't." He said. "Besides, if I stay here with you, that means that we can have more time together...alone."
I found myself blushing at that. While it was true that Dan would make good company, I still didn't want anything to happen to him.
"I would like that." I said. "And I guess that I'm not going to get you to leave, am I?"
"Nope." He said proudly.
I laughed and said, "Fine. You can stay."
He smiled and pulled me closer to him and gave me a quick peck on the cheek, causing me to blush to the point where I could've sworn that my face must be as red as a tomato right now.
"Oh no." He muttered.
"What's wrong?" I asked, looking at him.
"Demon nine o'clock." He said. "Hope you're ready for some more action."
