Chapter Five
"You bet I am." I said, taking out my knife.
I ran across the road and Dan managed to grab ahold of my hand in the process. The demon was heading away from us at a blinding speed so catching him was going to be tough. Unless we lure him over here of course.
"We need to get him over here." I said.
"Are you crazy?" He asked. "He'll tear us to shreds."
"I got this." I said. "Demons can't resist a weak girl."
"What-"
I fell to the ground and pretended to be hurt.
"Oh! I've been wounded!" I yelled as loudly as I could. "Won't someone come help me?"
My plan ended up working, as the demon came down from the sky and landed down next to me.
But then things took an unexpected turn.
The demon grabbed ahold of Dan and took off with him. Dan was screaming at me for help and I was screaming back that I would help him. I quickly glanced to make sure that there weren't any cars coming and then kept my eyes on Dan as I ran.
"No!" I yelled as soon as he was out of view due to all the trees. "Damn it!"
My heart was pounding as I desperately tried to find him. I held back tears because if he died, it would be all my fault. Plus, I cared about him so much and he actually cared about me. I don't think I'll ever meet someone like that again.

I ran until I couldn't run anymore. I say down against the tree, gasping for air and clenching the knife in my hand so hard that my knuckle turned white.
"I told you not to come." I said as I dropped the knife. "Didn't I?"
I failed. I failed to kill the demon, ghost, and the shapeshifter. Now they were going to be stuck like that forever and Dan was going to be a demon's meal.
"Don't you dare!"
"Dan?" I said, looking in the direction that I heard the voice come from as I wiped away tears and picked up my knife. I saw a cave that seemed to be endless. Without having any accessible light sources, I blindly ran into the cave, hoping to find Dan along the way.

I saw the demon drinking blood from Dan's neck. I thought about yelling to stop him but decided that I would try and sneak up on him in an attempt to decapitate him. I came merely what seemed like just a fraction of an inch before he darted his head towards me and threw himself on top of me. The sudden attack caused me to drop the knife and I heard it slam against the cave floor.
"Sweet." The demon sneered. I recognized him immediately. He was Nate Smith. He went to my school and was, of course, one of the popular ones. He was actually friends with Dan. Go figure. "A double meal for me tonight."
Then, his head became detached from his body and they both fell to the ground.
"Dan." I breathed when I realized that he was the one who killed him.
He didn't say a word. He just stared at me. Then, he fell down.
"Dan!" I yelled, going over to him and holding him in my arms. He had a wound on his neck where Nate had drank blood from. "Oh God, how much did he drink?"
"What the hell?"
My heart nearly leapt out of my chest when I heard Nate's voice. I looked over at him and he was back to his former self.
"Hey, what the hell is going on?" He asked. "Why are we in this cave? And what the hell happened to Dan?"
"There's no time to explain." I said. "Go get help. Now."
He searched through his hoodie and said, "I don't have my phone."
"I really don't fucking care if you have your phone or not." I said. "Just go get help."
"Do you really expect me to go to the hospital and explain a situation that I don't even really fully understand?" He asked.
"Yes." I said. "Now go."
"No." He said. "That's not happening."
I sighed and got up. "Fine. I'll do it myself."
"That won't be necessary."
"Who said that?"
Suddenly, a ghost materialized in front of me. I recognized him immediately. He was Mark Fischbach. He was a senior at our other high school. Yes, Everton is so big that we have two schools for each level (elementary, middle school, and high school respectively) and I only knew Mark because he was the trumpet section leader.
"Mark?" I asked. "You got dragged into this too?"
"Yes." He said. "Now, what's the problem?"
"He's bleeding out." I said. "And Nate refuses to get help."
"That's only because I have no idea what the fuck is going on!" He said.
"He doesn't need to." Mark said, walking over to Dan. "I'll take care of it."
Before I could respond, Mark placed his hand on Dan's neck and a blinding flash of white light soon followed. Once it disappeared, Mark walked away from him.
"How the hell did you do that?" Dan asked, immediately sitting up.
"No need to thank me." Mark said. "It was my pleasure."
Why was Mark acting so weird? From what I've heard, he wasn't like this.
"Mark, what the hell happened to us?" Nate asked. "And where are the others?"
"The others are safe and sound thanks to her." Mark said, nodding in my direction. "But what happened was the blood moon transformed us into supernatural creatures."
"Really?" Nate asked. "Then how come I don't remember any of that?"
"Because you are killed and then brought back to life as a human." Mark explained. "Honestly, it's not that hard to understand."
"Easy for you to say." Nate said. "You exactly know what's going on, unlike the rest of us."
"Nate, I think it's time for you to head home." Mark said. "Mat's still out there."
"No way." Nate said. "I want to stay here with our pal Dan."
"Nate, go home." Mark said sternly. "I'll see to it that Dan stays safe."
"You're acting real weird Mark." Nate said. "Are you feeling okay?"
"I've never been better." He said, a smile forming on his face. "Thank you for asking."
"Whatever." Nate said, standing up. He gave me a light tap on my arm and said to me, "Make sure you restore him, will you?"
"Of course." I said. "Be careful heading home."
"I will." He said.
He then started running out of the cave and Mark started to disappear.
"Wait!" I called. "I need to restore you!"
