Ch 8
A/N: Hey everyone! Hope you guys liked the last chapter. Draco not telling his parents about the fact that he would have to marry Hermione was definitely intentional. What affect do you think it will have on their plan? Read the A/N at the end to find out when the next chapter will be out. On with the chapter!
Few days later.....
"Hurry up, Zabini." Draco shouted at him as his best friend tried to tie his shoelaces by hand for the umpteenth time.
"I am not the one who took an hour just to make his hair, Draco." The Italian wizard said as he gave up on doing the task and finally used magic to help him. "You were the one who made us late."
"Honestly who takes an hour to do his hair?" Theo shook his head. "That just shows the level of your craziness, Draco."
Draco glared at him. "You don't get to talk with your leader like that, Nott-"
"Leader? Since when did we decide on having a leader? And who the hell in their right mind would make you the leader-"
"Learn to respect the person because of whom you are an Order member now, Nott-"
"SHUT UP!" Blaise yelled as he used the Silencio Charm on both of them. "Can you two ever stop your bickering? We are already late because of our dear dragon here."
Because of the silencing charm, Draco could not say anything in his defence.
But that didn't mean he couldn't smack the Italian wizard's head, and so that is what he did. Multiple times, in fact.
"Now I am going to remove the silencing charm, so please try to behave yourselves." Blaise sighed and used his wand to allow them to speak.
"Follow me, Theo and dear dragon." He spoke over his shoulder and flooed to the Order of the Phoenix's Headquarters from Draco's bedroom.
He missed Draco tackling Theo to the ground after the latter teased him by one of his famous nicknames.
The nickname being, 'Drakie-poo.'
Thanks no thanks for nothing, Pansy, Draco thought.
When all of three of them had flooed to Grimmauld Place, they headed towards the meeting room where they were supposed to meet Kingsley, and found the wizard standing in the middle of the room.
Accompanied by McGonagall and Hermione.
"Hey, you never told us the reason for which Granger had called you to the muggle cafe." Theo whispered to Draco.
"Or was she really asking you out on a date because she knew you weren't going to for some stupid unknown reason?" Blaise suggested.
The blond wizard ignored them as he focused on Kingsley and the charm the man was working on.
But still, he couldn't help but think about last week, when the Brightest Witch of Her Age had taken him to a muggle cafe and told him something very shocking.
Flashback
Had he heard her right?
Did she really want to learn how to act like pureblood witches?
Moreover, did she actually want him to teach her that?
Was she out of her mind?
But before Draco could even splutter a response, Hermione had sighed and explained everything to him in a calm voice. She told him how it was needed as their plan was going to take place soon, and she had no idea about how the purebloods acted like, let alone about witches being married to a Malfoy.
Something which had made her, and many others assume that Draco could never be anything except an evil person.
For they had no idea about his upbringing, or the fact that he was taught to hate muggle borns, and think that they are inferior to him ever since he was a small child.
And then of course their acting had to be perfect so as to not let Voldemort doubt them any time, Hermione had quickly added when she saw the blond wizard stiffen at her previous statement.
Draco had reluctantly nodded and told her that he would help turn her into a perfect pureblooded witch.
After that, the two had started meeting daily for a few hours in the makeshift library, where Draco had brought some books about Pureblood rules and etiquettes and had told her about the many galas he had attended and seen the witches act like over the years.
Although Hermione had been overwhelmed with all of that, she was determined to learn all of that, since she had never been the one to back off from a challenge.
And as for the Malfoy Heir, well he had been having fun while enjoying the Gryffindor Princess act like un uptight witch, always trying to impress him and batting those eyelashes at him.
Preparing for the infinite speeches as well, of course.
But the thing he was really eager to see was how she was act like in front of his parents when they would go to the Manor in a few days.
And also, how his parents would react when they would later get to know that the perfect pureblood witch was nothing else except a mere disguise of a muggle born witch.
Flashback over
"Mr Malfoy," Kingsley's voice pulled Draco out of his thoughts, "The glamour charm is ready. Miss Granger, are you ready to try it?"
Hermione stiffly nodded and the blond wizard could see the determination and braveness on her face.
Stupid Gryffindorks.
The muggle born witch took a deep breath and allowed Kingsley to cast the glamour charm on her.
Slowly, in front of all of them, her appearance changed from head to toe. She was totally unrecognisable.
Instead of the brunette witch with brown eyes, now stood a dark auburn hair witch who had dark blue eyes, and her skin looked a little paler then before. Her facial cut had become a little sharper, her thin eyebrows matching the shade of her hair.
She had full lips now, which were covered in a light pink lipstick. Her cheekbones spotted a light pink blush, accompanied by the minimal eye makeup. And to top it all, she was wearing a figure hugging Slytherin green knee length dress.
Draco was speechless.
She looked good.
No, actually, she looked damn hot.
Though as she turned her gaze to him, the blond wizard could have sworn that he saw a strange look in her now blue eyes.
But that only served as a reminder to him that it was her brown eyes which had given him a small feeling of hope during the battle, and to him, they were beautiful.
Her actual look was beautiful.
But hey, don't tell anyone that Draco said that. He would deny it straightaway.
"Is the look fine?" The Gryffindor Princess asked, as she looked at herself in the mirror she had conjured, to no one in particular.
But still, everyone's eyes turned to Draco, and he slowly nodded. "I-I think it is fine. The Dark Lord won't be able to recognise you. And the other Death Eater would also be clueless."
"You are acting like an awkwardly shy teenager on his first date." Theo rolled his eyes at him and Blaise stifled a laugh. "You should stop, dear dragon."
Hermione removed the charm and Kingsley informed them that they would soon put the charm on a ring, which Draco would be putting on her finger during their wedding, so that even if the Brightest Witch of Her Age didn't have her wand with her, she would still be able to use the disguise.
Kingsley dismissed all of them except McGonagall, with whom he had to discuss a few things. Draco and his best friends prepared to leave, Harry called the blond wizard to talk about the Death Eaters they had interrogated and Theo joined him.
Blaise excused himself to get some water from the kitchen, where Hermione had gone a few minutes back.
And just as he had reached the kitchen, he heard something that almost made him gasp.
-----------
"Come on, Theo, let us go." Draco clasped his best friend's shoulder and led him out of the room they had been in while talking with the Chosen One.
"Just a minute, Draco." Theo stopped him as they reached the door. "Let us go see where Blaise is. Otherwise he would complain like a whiny idiot that we forgot about him."
"You are right." He nodded and they turned around to walk towards the kitchen, making sure to shove past Ron who was intensely glaring at him.
"I always him." Theo snorted. "You just choose to ignore it like an oblivious prat, Potter for example."
"Do not compare to that stupid, idiot, reckless, oblivious, overconfident git Potter who has an ego bigger than that of the castle of Hogwarts-"
"You chose to ignore it when I said that you were head over heels for Granger." The brown haired Slytherin continued, ignoring his best friend's ranting.
"That was such an useless opinion-"
"If anything is useless here, then that is your constant denial, dear dragon. Even Potter knows that you love Granger."
That immediately stopped Draco. "The heck you are talking about, Nott? Which one of you freaking idiots told him? Tell me, you or Zabini?"
"And that implies that you are indeed in love with Granger." Theo grinned widely at him. "Too bad you didn't realise it was a trap, dear dragon."
"Shut up. It doesn't mean anything, Nott-"
"Can't believe that Potter proved to be useful to us for once. Strange times, right? Do you think we should tell her how, with the help of his name, I was successful in making you confess that you love Granger and-"
"I will kill you if you mention a single thing about this to him, or anyone else, Nott. Specially my mother. You know she would go mad if she gets to know about this."
"And the brave yet clueless dragon keeps admitting that he is in love with Granger." Theo smirked at him, ignoring his request, more like warning to not tell anyone about that. "Or should I call her future Mrs Draco Malfoy now?"
"There you are, Blaise." The Malfoy Heir exclaimed loudly as he spotted his another best friend to stop Theo from continuing his ranting.
"Yes, I am and now let us go back to the Manor." The Italian wizard quickly spoke and grasped the other two wizard's arms.
"What is the matter, Blaise?" Draco frowned. "And- hold on, let me get some water first. I am quite thirsty-"
"NO!" Blaise protested. "Y-you can't go into the kitchen."
"And pray tell me why?"
"Because- the water here is not good."
Draco and Theo shook their heads at him. The latter spoke, "Are you out of your mind, Blaise. Or are you really high right now?"
"I am not." Blaise stated. "I think the water here is not good. Plus the kitchen is in a very bad condition. Let us go back to your Manor, Draco. And you can drink the whole fountain if you want, just don't let Aunt Cissy know about that."
"Stop your stupid crap, Zabini, and let me go." The blond wizard freed his arm from his best friend's grasp and started heading towards the kitchen.
And suddenly he lost his balance and almost fell to the floor, but took the help of the shelf attached to the wall to help him.
Blaise mentally sighed as he placed his wand away, with which he had untied Draco's shoelaces to distract him.
He quickly pulled Theo away, and harshly whispered in his ear, "I literally just heard Weasel telling Granger that he loves her in the kitchen. That is why I was stopping Draco from going there."
Theo's jaw almost dropped to the floor. "The heck are you talking about, Blaise?"
"I will explain everything to you later on, Theo, but for now we need to stop Draco, you understand? We can't let our dear dragon listen any part of that conversation, it will break his heart." The Italian wizard sighed.
"We should get out of here." Theo nodded in response. "Before Draco kills Ron Weasley for trying to steal the love of his life, because come on, there is no way Granger would ever get together with Weasel the crap-headed git-"
"You can leave the reasonings to Draco." Blaise whispered and quickly grabbed Draco's arm just as he was trying to enter the kitchen. "Aunt Cissy is calling you. Let us go, dear dragon."
Before giving the blond wizard a chance to process his statement, let alone reply, he apparated them to Draco's room-
-Completely oblivious to the conversation which was going on at that moment in the kitchen.
-----------
Next day.....
Hermione sighed as she folded her clothes which were to be shoved inside her bag which had the undetectable extension charm on it.
And yes, shoved. For her soon to be husband had immediately rejected most of the clothing she owned, stating that Pureblood witches didn't wear muggle clothes, and that her new clothes would be waiting for her at the Manor.
She had been horrified when Draco had dragged her to a boutique in France, where he had apparated them a few minutes back without giving her any warning, and told a friend of his mother's to take the muggle born which inside a private room to get her measurements in order to design some clothes for her.
Needless to say, neither did Hermione have a say in which clothes to buy, nor did she get to pay for them.
"You should be use to me paying from now on." Draco had told her. "And- Granger, no. I already rejected that dress. No- you would absolutely not wear it in front of my parents. They like the colour green, Granger, green. Not red!"
After he had obliviated his mother's friend and erased all records of them coming there and buying clothes, though he did not take back the money he had given, Draco had brought them back.
And now, Hermione was left with packing with the robes and some of the other accessories she had owned, for she would be going to the Malfoy Manor in a few hours.
The place where she was mercilessly tortured just a few months back.
Imagine her meeting the Malfoys as their son's would be bride where her screams had echoed not long ago.
She shook her head to immediately get rid of those memories. No, it wouldn't do her any good to think about that, for it would only make her panic more, as she didn't really have a choice in the matter.
She had to go to the Malfoy Manor, if she wanted to save the Wizarding World.
Besides, Draco had ensured her that they would be meeting his parents in a living room which was far away from the one which had been used in the War.
Of course Malfoy Manor had multiple living rooms.
And when she had tensed upon him mentioning the wing that particular drawing room was situated in, the blond wizard had told her that she would be staying in his wing.
Of course Draco had his own wing.
But at least his wing would not be filled with bad memories for her. Not that it meant it made her going to the Manor any easier.
To distract herself as she packed the bag, Hermione decided to think of something else, any other memory.
Unfortunately for her, that memory just happened to be the one she didn't want to think about at all.
An awkward memory.
Memory of the conversation she had in the kitchen with a certain red headed wizard the day before.
Flashback
"'Mione."
Hermione turned around and frowned when she saw Ron standing near the door, fiddling with his hands.
"Yes, Ron?" She asked, turning back to her task, which was of stacking the clean and dried plates together.
"I need to speak with you."
"I am listening."
"Hermione." Ron sighed. "I really have to speak with you right now."
That made Hermione abandon her task and turn around to see him. His tone indicated that he was nervous yet determined to talk with her.
What did he possibly need to talk with her about?
Frowning, she gestured for him to take a seat at the dining table, and herself sat across from him. "So what did you need to talk with me about, Ron?"
"I- well, you see, 'Mione- I-"
"Whatever it is, just say it, Ron." She tried to send him a reassuring smile as she used a spell to automatically make the plates stack themselves together.
"Okay." He took a deep breath and continued, "Hermione... I-I am in love with you."
A plate dropped to the floor and broke.
Hermione berated herself for losing focus, but his statement had shocked her so much. Quickly, she used Reparo on the plate and started the spell again, this time making sure that the spell still worked perfectly even when she took her mind of her magic.
"I-I don't understand, Ron. This all is-"
"It is pretty simple, 'Mione." The red headed smiled at her and reached forwards to grasp her hands in his, but frowned when she pulled her hands away. "Hermione-"
"No, Ron! I told you my real opinion of this after the Battle of Hogwarts and it hasn't changed yet, okay?"
"But why can't you give it a shot, Hermione?" The youngest male Weasley sighed. "You wouldn't whether or not this is right unless you try it. And I don't understand what changed so quickly, 'Mione. Up until the battle you liked me. We even kissed once in the Chamber of Secrets-"
"And I had told you that it was a mistake, one I didn't want to repeat." She softened her tone when she saw the look in his eyes. "Ron, I hate to be blunt, but you need to understand this. I had already told you that our kiss during the Battle didn't feel right to me. It was just a heat of the moment thing. We had just destroyed an horcrux, plus we didn't know what the result of the war would be, so it was like, 'Why not do this?', you know? Because we were afraid that we might never get another opportunity, or perhaps we didn't want to leave without knowing how it felt, so we just kissed. And that is why I simply suggested to go back to Harry when you leaned in for a second kiss. Do you understand?"
"But what about your feelings for me? How did they fade away so quickly?"
"Feelings are like that, Ron, they come and go as they please. We have no control over that." Hermione smiled sadly at him. "I think one of the main reasons was you dating Lavender in our sixth year. It just- It just made me feel weird, not the jealous kind of weird, mind you. You were dating a girl you have barely talked to over the past few years and then you dumped her in a cruel way."
Ron had the decency to bow his head in shame.
"And I don't intend to make you feel bad here." She continued, "We spent so long in this awkward situation that it makes me feel awkward while simply thinking about that moment. Yes, I was jealous at first, but then slowly I understood that we would have never worked out in the long term. We don't have anything in common, except being Harry's friends. And if it weren't for Harry, we wouldn't have even become friends in the first place. You hate the things I like, and vice versa. How would have that worked out, Ron?"
"I understand." He finally nodded.
"Besides, I am going to marry Malfoy in a few days, albeit in a disguise. And even if my feelings for you had still been there, I wouldn't have decided to be with you. We can't do anything to compromise this plan, Ron. So many lives depend on it."
"I still don't like that plan. Malfoy-"
"Whoever you think he is doesn't matter, Ron. He is an Order member now, and I am supposed to do this task with him."
The two continued to talk like that for a few hours until Harry called them. As they began getting up, Hermione grabbed Ron's arm and said, "One day, you will find a person who will love you just like you deserve to be, Ron. And I am sorry that I can't be that person for you."
"It is okay, Hermione." He smiled a little at her and patted her hand. "I think that we should just remain friends. Be the same old Golden Trio?"
Hermione grinned wildly at him just as they heard their best friend calling them again.
Flashback over
As Hermione had been absorbed in the memory, she didn't realise that she had finished packing her bag.
Her eyes widened when she glanced at the clock.
Draco and his best friends would be here in half an hour and she still wasn't ready. Immediately she put on the glamour charm and put on the black silk robe Draco had bought for her on top of the Slytherin green dress she was wearing.
Lucius and Narcissa, here she comes.
----------
"Remind me again why I am doing this." Hermione whispered to Draco as Kingsley wished them all the best.
"Because you are crazy after my good looks and want to be married to me, in one way or another." The blond wizard whispered back.
Then without warning, he grabbed her arm, pulling her closer and disapparated from there, landing in front of the gates of the Malfoy Manor.
"Welcome to my ancestral home, my soon to be bride." He gestured towards the huge and dark Manor.
"Couldn't have given me a warning before apparating us, could you Malfoy?" She snarled at him, ignoring his comment.
"Just repaying the favor, Granger." Draco sneered before leaning towards her, his mouth just next to her that she could feel his breath on her skin and his lips moving as he whispered, "Be sure to keep only a little malic and anger of yours in your voice when you meet my parents."
She nodded just as the other two Slytherin wizards apparated behind them. Blaise walked forwards until he stood next to her and gently took her hand in his. "Everyone remember the plan?"
They all nodded and Draco touched his hand on the gate to allow them inside. "Here goes nothing."
As they continued on the pathway surrounded by beautiful gardens on both side, filled with albino peacocks and a few fountains here and there, Hermione started to dread this plan and looked at her covered scar.
The Malfoy Heir, who swiftly walked next to her, grabbed her left arm, resting his fingers directly over her scar, and mumbled, "We won't be going anywhere near that room, Granger, so relax. We will be there with you all the time. And I won't let anyone harm you. So just breath, okay?"
Hermione nodded and took a deep breath, her eyes focused on the Manor in front of her.
And neither of them paid much attention to Draco's promise of not letting anyone harm her.
So just like that, they walked side by side, with Blaise on Hermione's other side and Theo bringing up the rear until they reached the blond wizard's house.
The four people simply stood in silence as the doors opened and there stood a few Death Eaters. Draco pushed past them before they could even open their mouths and the other three Order members followed him.
He led them to a living room where they saw Lucius and Narcissa sitting quietly on the sofa, reading a newspaper and a spell book respectively.
"Mother, Father." Draco greeted them as his parents got up and walked towards him. He kissed his mother's cheek and nodded at his father. "We haven't disturbed you, have we?"
"Not at all, my precious dragon." The Malfoy matriarch smiled at him.
Normally, Draco wouldn't have bothered saying anything when his mother called him that, as he was used to it, even in front of his friends.
But this time, Hermione was standing next to him in a disguise, and Draco could see her trying to hide a smile at that.
After Blaise and Theo had greeted his parents, Lucius asked, "Who is this young witch, Draco? I don't recall meeting her ever before."
Yes, you have, Father. You have not only met her for the first time in Flourish and Blotts before second year, but also embarrassed me in front of everyone, Draco almost said.
Draco opened his mouth to introduce her, but then as if remembering the plan at the last moment, stopped himself and gestured for Blaise to do the task.
"This is my step sister, Amelia Romano." Blaise smiled at them and nudged Hermione forwards. "Amelia, they are Draco's parents, Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy."
"Nice to meet you, Miss Romano." Narcissa smiled and leaned forwards to lightly kiss the young witch on the cheek.
"Amelia please, Mrs Malfoy." Hermione planted her best smile on her face as she kissed her cheek back and shook Lucius' hand.
"Then call us Lucius and Narcissa, Amelia." The Malfoy patriarch nodded at her and then turned towards his son. "Give her a tour of the Manor, Draco."
Time to put the plan in action.
"I have better work to do." Draco snarled at the disguised Gryffindor Princess and pushed past her, almost making her fall to the floor, and walked away from them.
Before he left the hall, the blond wizard briefly turned around and looked directly at Hermione, who was looking back at him.
He subtly nodded at her and she nodded back.
Draco left the hall just as his mother started apologising to Hermione for her son's rude behaviour and Lucius shook his head.
Plan on.
-------
Next day....
If there was one good use of Draco Malfoy, then Hermione had to say that he was actually a good guide.
Yes, he had refused the order of showing her around the Manor yesterday, but then again it had been a part of the plan.
But he had showed her around his wing after dinner yesterday, as Narcissa had told her that with along with Blaise and Theo, who always stayed in their best friend's wing, she should stay there as well.
And it just so happened that her room was on the same corridor as Draco's.
So technically, if Hermione had to roam around the dark halls, which never seem to end, she could have gone to the blond wizard's room and asked him to help her.
But, it was currently seven o'clock in the morning, and if she had learnt anything about the great Draco Malfoy in these past few weeks, then it was that he was not a morning person at all.
Then there was the matter of him having very strong wards around his room, which Hermione could never break through, because some of them were blood wards, so only a Malfoy could enter into his room, aside from the people he had given the permission to do so.
Hermione supposed she would be able to enter his room in a few days, as she would be a Malfoy soon.
But that was something she didn't really want to think about.
And besides, Draco would never willingly give her the permission to enter his room, whether she was a Malfoy or not.
So the Gryffindor Princess decided to roam around the halls by her own, and despite the fact that she did have courage, she was making a big mistake.
Which would affect not only her, but many lives in the near future.
Hermione walked on the direction opposite to where Draco's room was, as he had informed her that there was a sitting area, combined with a small library at the end of the corridor.
And she ended up staying for four hours in that sitting area.
Not taking note of the time, Hermione decided to wander around Draco's side of the corridor as well.
But before she could even pass his room, a strong arm grasped her hand, and she was pulled inside a room, a hand on her mouth preventing her from screaming.
The man kicked the door close, and waved his hand to put the wards up again.
When she saw who was standing in front of her, her eyes widened.
It was none other than Draco Malfoy.
Who was only wearing a towel, that too low on his hips.
"The heck is wrong with you, Granger?" The blond wizard growled as pressed her harder against the wall. "Didn't you hear it clearly yesterday when I had specifically told you not to go to any other room or area without me accompanying you?"
He finally removed his hand from her mouth, but his arm still had a tight grip on her hand. "I-I am sorry, Malfoy, but I was getting bored and-"
"So you decided to not only risk your life, but of so many people, including me." Draco let out a bitter laugh. "You couldn't have waited in your room? You couldn't have waited for me to come? If it was becoming too much then you could have sent me a bloody message through the galleon and I would have come to you in a second!"
Hermione closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "I know you are worried, Malfoy, and angry at me, and you have every right to be. But I did have my wand with me, and I know a few wandless spells too-"
"You knew wandless spells even when you were tortured in this freaking house, Granger!"
Her breath hitched as he spoke those words and she fought hard with herself from itching her left forearm, and trying not to cry as memories of that day came swirling back in her mind.
"Look, I-I am sorry, Granger- I shouldn't have-" Draco took a deep breath and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Anyways, why aren't you in your disguise? Why are you just roaming around being Hermione Granger?"
"What?" Her eyes widened as she looked down at her feet and then touched her hair. "Oh shit, I completely forgot about the disguise-"
"Of course you did." The Malfoy Heir shook his head. "I have a right mind to lash out at you for forgetting that but it would do us no good. Just remember to put the disguise on every morning until you are supposed to wear the ring and-"
"MALFOY!"
Both of them gasped as they heard someone pounding on the doorknob and calling out his name. Draco dragged her to the nearby cupboard and shoved her inside, telling her to stay in there until he sorted the matter out.
He thought about quickly changing into his clothes, but then decided to use him having a shower as an excuse if something had happened.
Taking a deep breath, Draco opened the door and came face to face with Rabastan Lestrange.
"Where is she?"
"Where is who?" The blond wizard narrowed his eyes at him.
Rabastan didn't pay him any attention as his eyes were busy looking around the room. "The mudblood Granger girl, who else?"
