Surprise Visits

The day was bright, birds were happily chirping on the trees. It was midday, and a joyous humdrum could be heard in the University of Durham as students stormed out of their classes to the cafeteria. Sitting alone at one of the tables disseminated around the interior park of the school, a young man was correcting copies in front of a cup of tea.

With a sight, William James Moriarty put down his pen and lay back in his chair. Closing his eyes, he allowed himself a short break between two exam copies, soothed by the gentle sound of the fountain flowing nearby and the warm June breeze. His mind trailed off to unimportant subject.

By that time of the day, Albert must be planning the last details of the Lord of Crime's next "scene", in four days. Moran would be with Von Herder with Bond, and Louis and Fred would be waiting for the hours to pass, or maybe training with Jack.

Slightly opening his eyelids, William looked at his pocket watch: 11h30, he still has an hour and a half before his next lecture. With another sight, he turned his crimson gaze back to his copies.

He soon realized that he still couldn't concentrate, but now for a completely different reason. The image of a handsome raven haired man had again decided to occupy his thoughts. Unconsciously, the professor relaxed, and a small smile appeared on his lips as his mind drifted off to his boyfriend. They hadn't seen each other in almost three months now, and it seemed like an eternity.

Of course the Daily Londoner often brought William pictures of the one he loved, accompanied by news on the last case of "the World's best Detective"; but that wasn't enough, black and white photographs never brought William the same feeling as when he was with Sherlock, and even though they both agreed to live in separate towns, he still missed him greatly.

So deep in thought he was that he didn't hear the light footsteps coming from his back towards him and almost fell of his chair when a way-too-familiar voice rang at his ears

"Hello Professor"

Before William could even turn his head to face him, the man had already taken the seat in front of him and was smiling brightly at the professor. It took the entire blonde's willpower to maintain a calm façade in front of the man he had unsuccessfully tried to get out of his thoughts for the last months.

"Sherlock you really need to stop doing this" he sighted. The raven-haired man winked at him playfully "Where would have been the fun then?" Suppressing a smile with another sight, William put down his pen "You disturbed me" he said "I was correcting my copies".

Sherlock's smile turned into a grin and his navy-blue eyes looked into the crimson ones of his boyfriend. "No you weren't Liam, you were thinking about me". William was accustomed by now to the deductions of the detective; they were a game, an intellectual stimulation for both of them.

"What makes you think that Mr. Holmes?" He asked with a smirk without breaking eye contact.

Sherlock eyes sparkled, like every time he would explain his deductions. "First, you clearly weren't looking at your copies, your gaze was wandering. Only a few things are more important to you than your job, it wasn't difficult to narrow down the possibilities to one once I saw you were fidgeting with your ring".

William's hand instinctively went to his ring finger, where laid a simple silver ring, on the center of which a red gem and a blue gem were delicately woven together by strands of silver. Sherlock wore the same ring, attached around his neck by a little chain.

William smiled. "You win this round Sherlock." The detective approached his face from the one of his lover, eyes still locked in his; they were only inches apart now. "Do I?" Sherlock replied with a dangerous smirk "What is my prize then professor?" William returned the smirk "That is yours to deci-" He was cut off by the feeling of Sherlock's lips softly pressing against his own. William melted in the kiss.

God he had forgotten this sensation of pure bliss when he felt the detective's lips against his own! The kiss was soft but warm, full of gentleness and love. Sherlock's hand softly brushed against William's cheek, and the professor's hands played with the detective's raven hair, slowly untidying his ponytail. The table and its copies were long gone, and the rest of the world disappeared, simple impediments to a love that couldn't be restrained.

After a minute that seemed as long as a blink of an eye, they gently pulled apart. Sherlock smiled fondly at the cuteness of his boyfriend, whose cheeks had taken a light red tint. "How long is your break?" he asked William. The blonde tried to regain his composure as he looked at his watch. 12 o'clock, "I still have an hour before my next lecture". Sherlock clapped his hands in pleasure with a joyful smile "That's more than enough time" he answered "C'mon Liam, time won't wait for us!"

He gently grabbed William's hand, and started running through the empty corridors of the campus. "Do you have any idea where you're going?" William asked. Sherlock turned around without stopping, a mischievous glint in the eyes and a bright smile "Absolutely not" he answered "Who do you think I am?"

William couldn't help but burst out laughing as they ran through the gate into the sunlight. It was just the two of them, the detective and the criminal, against the rest of the world; but they couldn't care less, they were together.

Indeed, the day was bright
