CHAPTER SIXTY-TWO: ALL IN YOUR HEAD !
10x22
━━━━━━
THE TEAM WAS CALLED TO DEBRIEF ABOUT A CASE INVOLVING TWO MEN AND A PROSTITUTE THAT HAD BEEN MURDERED. Casey and Spencer sat together as they examined the files in front of them.
"So, two Johns and a hooker and no apparent connection between any of them." JJ started as Casey looked her and Hotch's way, sitting in front of the couple.
"And he doesn't rob them or care if the bodies are discovered." Morgan adds. "No forensic countermeasures either. He probably wants them found. It might be a message." Rossi tells.
"I wonder what he's trying to say." Casey stated, looking down at the file. "Maybe that he's angry. He's using a .45-caliber weapon, and with each victim he fired thirteen shots.
It's most likely every round in the magazine and the one in the chamber. It's basically overkill with a handgun." Spencer told.
"Then what's he angry about?" Vivian asks. "Tasha Brooks is African-American and the two Johns, Gary Fisher and Nate Cochran, they were both white." Kate tells. "Guys, what if she's the connection? What if these victims were both her clients?" Morgan suggests.
"Given the close proximity of the murder sites, that is a distinct possibility." Spencer figures. "So the first victim, Gary Fisher, was found alone because maybe Tasha was there and then got away?" JJ wondered. "Or it was some other girl and she got away." Kate tells. "Presuming it is a woman." Spencer adds.
"Either way, that means there's someone out there that may have seen the unsub." Rossi says. "Then our first priority should be finding that person." Hotch finishes.
The team heads to the LAPD to set up their case. They are greeted with Detective Spreewell, who is the head detective on the case. Casey looks around at the many bodies in the PD, all pimps and prostitutes, Casey gathered.
"I can't thank all of you enough for coming." Spreewell tells. "Well, I hope we can help." Hotch said as they walked through the office. "We put all our street patrols on double shifts like you asked. We rounded up every working girl, pimp, crackhead in the area. Hopefully somebody knows something." Spreewell stated.
"We better get to it," Rossi chimed. "We're gonna need to talk to 'em all." Kate sighs, "Well, it won't be easy. I saw this all the time when I worked sex crimes. Most of these women have been victimized for years." Vivian nods, "They won't admit to anything or talk to authority without their pimps or girlfriends around."
Spreewell looks in one of the interrogation rooms. "Why don't we start with him?" Casey looks to where the detective is looking. "Eddie Parrish, Tasha Brooks' pimp. Calls himself Sweetness." Casey cringes at the name. "Lovely." She comments.
"Aw, come on, now. That was Walter Payton's nickname. That's just wrong." Morgan comments, causing JJ and Casey to smirk at the man's comment.
Luckily, Casey was partnered up with Spencer. Casey figured since Spencer was practically a prostitute magnet, Hotch paired them up to ease her mind. Even if she didn't really care. She knew she had a hot fiancé but she also knew that all he wanted was her. She never worried. He got propositioned by every girl they talked to and Casey smirked to him once in a while because of how uncomfortable he looked, especially since this was happening in front of his fiancée and he thought she was gonna flip.
They had just finished up with another woman, who handed a file back to Spencer and she said she didn't know any of the victims. "Are you sure? Do you want to maybe take another look?" He asks.
"I'm sure, baby," The woman said. "I remember all the cute ones. Like you." She stared at him with scandalous eyes and Casey smirked as she looked down at how awkward he got.
But the real icing on the cake was when the woman looked over at Casey. "I won't forget you or your friend either." The woman looked at Casey up and down, ogling her and Casey's smirk fell instantly and she couldn't look the woman in the eye anymore.
Casey had never been hit on during the job before let alone by a woman. She looked towards Spencer, who looked away from her and Casey cleared her throat as she excused herself.
To keep the long story short, one prostitute had witnessed the unsub murdering one of the victims in front of her before she ran off. And two other victims were found - a woman and a man. Their unsub was on a vigilante hunt. Then another woman ran to the PD after her boyfriend was murdered in front of her and the unsub thought she was being raped when in reality, she was just making out with her boyfriend. They discovered that their unsub, Daniel Lee Stokes, was suffering from a psychotic break due to his schizophrenia and he was killing whoever he thought was a target — which was pretty much everyone. They had found out that his mother was a landlord, who had schizophrenia and she was shot and killed in a burglary and that Daniel lived in the building that she owned. He was questioned about the disappearance of a Patricia Valdez and a Milena Valdez, her daughter and they had lived in the same building as him. The police had suspected Patricia's ex, David Ruiz as the person that shot Daniel's mother. He was arrested and was awaiting trial for armed robbery.
Garcia sent over the address to the team and Morgan, JJ, Casey and Spencer had decided to go and check it out along with Spreewell. Once they arrived, Spreewell had joined the four and asked: "You really think that guy had something to do with that missing mother and daughter?"
"Let's hope not." Spencer answered. "But anything's possible." Casey added.
"You got other units en route?" Morgan asks. "Yeah, two minutes out." Spreewell nods. "You and your boys take the back. We're going in the front."
Once the started towards the entrance, Morgan stopped everyone and noticed a dead mailman on the ground. They had assumed that Daniel had killed them. Morgan signaled for them to take out their guns because he could be anywhere.
The team made their way up the building and towards the apartments upstairs and found Daniel's. They were immediately driven to loud yelling coming from an apartment. "Shut up! I didn't ask you what you thought!" Casey knew they were at the right apartment.
"Did I, Patricia?" The voice yelled.
"Patricia." JJ spoke.
"He has them in there." Casey said.
"No, that's right, I did not. It helps me with my headaches. Aah! Unlike you right now. You leave my mom out of this!" Casey furrowed her brows. Spreewell, JJ and Spencer were at one side of the door while Casey and Morgan were on the other side, all guns held tightly towards the door.
"When?! Huh?! Tell me! Tell me when! Tell me! Tell me!" Morgan pounded on the door and got the attention of Daniel. "Daniel Lee Stokes, this is the FBI. We just want to ask you a few questions, Daniel. Is that okay? Daniel, we know you're in there--"
Morgan couldn't even finish the sentence because Daniel started shooting towards the door. Everyone backed up once shots were fired. Morgan held Casey towards the wall with his body so she wouldn't have been hit. "Get back! I've got hostages!" Daniel shouts.
"Let you go? To them? They can't keep you safe. That's my job." Daniel yelled. "Who's he yelling at? I don't hear anyone else talking." Spencer said. "It's probably all in his head." Casey told.
"I love you! Can't you see that? I love you. Why can't you see that? All I ever tried to do was protect you. All I ever tried to do was protect you!"
"Daniel?" JJ spoke next. "Is that Patricia in there with you? You want to protect her? We can help you with that."
"Who's there?" Daniel questioned.
"She's with me. We're still out here, Daniel." Morgan told and soon, Casey heard the sirens from outside of the building. "Can you hear that? There's more of us coming, man."
The man shot towards the door again and once again, Casey was pressed against the wall due to Morgan's protection. "Stay back!" Daniel screamed.
"Okay, Daniel," Casey spoke up next. "If you have Patricia in there and you want to protect her, this is not the best way to do that. What about Milena, Daniel, is she in there, too?" She questioned and then heard shushing inside.
"Daniel, we know about your mom." JJ told. "Shut up!
You don't know anything about her." They heard Daniel inside. "We know that she was shot in cold blood, and you're angry about it." JJ said. "She--she didn't deserve that. That animal is still out there!" Daniel yelled. "No, Daniel, we found him. David Ruiz, right?" Morgan questioned.
There's a pause. "You're lying." They heard Daniel tell.
"No, Daniel, we found him in San Diego. I can take you right to him if you want, but you have to come out first." Morgan encouraged the man to come out safely.
"We got units in the back ready to go in." Spreewell stated and Spencer looked over at him. "Have them stand by." He told.
"Daniel, if you have Patricia and Milena in there, do the right thing and give yourself up. Nobody has to get hurt here." Casey persuaded to the man from outside the door.
"Come on, man, listen to her." Morgan told. "Daniel, there's cops everywhere. You can't protect them from that, but we can."
There's a long pause until the five hear the door click and it opens a crack. Morgan is the first to put himself in harm's way and JJ, Casey and Spencer follow behind. The man stands in front of the individuals, holding his gun. He has fear in his eyes. "Drop the weapon." Morgan told.
The man dropped the gun on the ground and Morgan put him in handcuffs. "Where's Patricia and Milena?" Casey asks. "Protect them, please." Daniel begs. "We can't protect them if you don't tell me where they are, Daniel." JJ tells.
Daniel takes a deep breath. "Outside by the flowers."
With that, Spencer, JJ and Casey find that the bodies were buried together in his yard, by the flowers. The bodies were decomposed and they had figured that once the man stopped taking his medication, he snapped and killed the women.

Casey had been ready to go right along home once they'd flown home on the jet. Of course, they had to fill out paperwork at first before going right on home. The team was greeted with Garcia holding two boxes of pizza standing in front of the elevator. Casey held onto Spencer's hand as they walked out of the elevator together.
"Oh, wait a minute. Pizza party?" Morgan was the first to speak and approach Garcia. "I have two pizzas and they've just been delivered, which means they're extra delicious." Garcia smiled.
"I smell mushrooms." Spencer smiled. "Please tell me there's combination pizza in there." Casey said, her mouth watering at the smell of the boxes. "Pepperoni," Rossi spoke. "Those from Riggio's?" He asks.
"Yes, they are. I thought you guys would be hungry upon your arrival." Garcia smiled. Kate shakes her head and groans at the smell. "Ooh, no, thanks. The smell grosses me out." Garcia holds the boxes away from her and wafts away the smell from Kate. "Oh, my gosh! I'm so sorry. I had no idea."
"No worries," Kate smiles. "This pregnancy thing can be freaky." Casey nods, "Oh, yeah, weird cravings all over. Pickles and peanut butter were my specialty." Spencer nodded, too, remembering when Casey had the oddest cravings when she was pregnant with Christopher.
"Okay, there's--there's something you're not telling us." JJ points to the woman. "What's the occasion?" Vivian asks.
"Yeah. I thought this would help you guys with all the extra work you have to do right now." Garcia says.
"Whoa, whoa, what do you mean, extra work?" Morgan asks. "Yeah, what do you mean 'extra work'?" Casey added.
"What's going on?" Hotch asks.
Garcia gives in. "Cruz called," She said. "He wants all the case assessments for the congressional oversight meeting." Casey groaned and looked towards the ceiling. "I knew it." JJ sighs. "That meeting's not for another three weeks." Rossi furrows his brows.
"Yeah, it was, until they moved it to Monday." Garcia holds the boxes up again, in hopes to help them be a little lighthearted that Garcia decided to surprise them with pizza.
"But I have pizza," She then holds it away from Kate again. "Not for you."
Everyone sighs and Casey rests her head on Spencer's shoulder. "Looks like we're working overtime at the shop." She breathes out. "All right, everyone. Let's settle in." Hotch nods and everyone heads over to their desks.
Everyone informed their loved ones that they were staying late over in the bullpen as they headed towards their desks. Casey sighs as she looked towards her framed photo of Christopher on her desk and smiled a bit as she looked at it. She hated being away from him for so long, but hey, at least there was pizza.
