CHAPTER EIGHTY-SEVEN: VIVIAN !

━━━━━━

VIVIAN HUDSON WAS FINALLY BACK FROM LEAVE. Of course, she had returned to work just a few days after returning back home. The woman had been visiting her children and she knew it was time to return to work — especially after being informed about what happened with Hotch.

The woman was currently in Hotch's office, looking at his name plaque, tracing the letters with her thumb. She tried her best to manage a smile but since finding out what happened with Hotch, she didn't know if she could.

There's a small knock on the doorway and Vivian looks up at Casey in the doorway. "Hey. Thought I'd find you here. Welcome back." Casey greeted and Vivian gave a small smile at the girl. Casey notices the plaque in Vivian's hands as she walks in the room. "You heard about Hotch, I assume?" Casey asks the woman.

Vivian sighs, knowing what she has to say. Of course, she knew she couldn't say anything to Casey. Not quite yet. "He's on field duty." Vivian spoke. "Yeah, probably won't be back in a few weeks." Casey told. Maybe even longer than that. Vivian thought.

"How was seeing your kids?" Casey decides to ask as Vivian puts the plaque down as she found it. "It was refreshing. It's been a while since I've seen them." Vivian told. "I'm glad you enjoyed it." Casey smiles.

"Heard I missed Prentiss," Vivian mentions. "How was that?" Casey nods at the woman, "It was good, very good. We hadn't seen her in a while. You missed a pretty hefty girls' night, though." The woman finds herself chuckling.

The girls' night they had was one for the books. The women had played a very stingy and dirty game of Never Have I Ever and every women in the group had discovered something new about each other in regards to each other's sex lives, especially Casey's and Spencer's, along with JJ's and Will's.

On a dare, Emily kissed a woman, Casey did a dance number on the table tops, Garcia expressed her large hatred for the newbie, Luke Alvez — a little too much that it made JJ and Casey question Garcia if she really did hate him.

The night had ended with the bartender calling Will and Spencer to come and pick all of them up from the bar.

"Damn." Vivian groaned as Casey chuckled more. Rossi suddenly walked into the room. "Welcome back." Rossi greeted, with Garcia trailing behind him. "Dave. Garcia." Vivian greeted.

"Welcome back, Viv. Just letting you guys know, we do have a case. And it's urgent." Garcia told as she walked out of the room and the three agents follow behind the woman. Tara, Spencer, Luke and JJ had already been in the conference room in their designated seats.

Garcia introduced the case to the team, clicking on the buttons on the remote, revealing a photo of a young girl. It kind of looked like a mugshot, the girl looked starved. "This is... Jane. We think she's approximately seventeen years old." Casey's eyes widen, she would've thought the girl to at least be twelve years old. "She was just found on the streets of Queens. And she's refusing to talk to anybody."

"She looks malnourished." Tara pointed out. "Bit tiny for her age." Rossi adds. "No bruises or ligature marks anywhere." Luke stated, looking at the file in front of him. "No last name or date of birth anywhere?" Casey asks.

"Yeah, here's the catch. Jane here, only mentioned one thing. That she was help captive for her entire life and that she got out. She also mentioned that her family was with her." Garcia revealed.

"Family?" Vivian questions with furrowed brows. "She wasn't alone?" Spencer asks next.

"Could explain why there's no markings or evidence of her even being missing." JJ stated. "Has anyone gotten anything else out of her?" Tara asks.

"At this moment in time, she's refusing to talk to anybody. She's just a poor, scared girl who bad things have happened to." Garcia told.

Rossi looks at the team in front of him, putting the file down on the table in front of them. "Wheels up in 10."

━━━━━━

On the jet, Rossi had split the team up. Casey and Vivian would be going to talk to Jane as the rest of the team set up at the PD. The two women were entering the hospital and had talked to Jane's doctor, who warned them to be patient with her.

Casey entered the room first, with Vivian right behind her. Jane was on the bed, holding her knees up to her chest. She looked scared. "Jane?" The voice saying her name made Jane's head dig impossibly deeper in between her knees and chest, hiding her face.

Casey had carefully and gently sat down on the bed beside Jane. "My name is Casey. And this is my good friend, Vivian." She introduced. The girl had refused to put on a hospital gown, the doctors told her. So, Casey noticed the shirt she was wearing. It was a little tight-fitting, like a five year old would wear but this girl was super tiny, she could definitely fit into it perfectly. "I like your shirt." Casey pointed out. "Do you like giraffes?"

The girl nods like a child. Casey smiles a bit, "I do, too. And so does my son."

Vivian stands forwards, next to Casey and looks at the girl carefully. "We'd like to ask you a few questions if that's okay?" She asks.

Jane thinks for a minute and shrugs, waiting to listen. "Do you remember where you were at? With your family?" Vivian starts but Jane shakes her head. "Okay."

"Do you think if you can remember really really hard, you can remember where you were at?" Casey asks and the girl shrugs once more and takes a deep breath, sitting up more.

"Okay. I'm gonna need you to close your eyes and visualize what happened hours ago? Okay?" Vivian takes a seat on the opposite side of the bed as Casey says this. Vivian holds a hand out. "If you need anything, I'll be right here. Just squeeze my hand as tight as you can." Vivian offers and the girl nods, hesitantly taking her hand. Something about these women had been trusting to young Jane.

"Do you remember where that man took you?" Casey starts and Jane closes her eyes and tries to remember as best as she can. "Mom wrapped me in a rug. She told me... to play dead."

"Did you play dead?" Casey asks and Jane nods, "Yeah."  Casey continues on, "Where did he put you when you were playing dead?"

"In... the back of his truck. He just tossed me in there," Jane motions to her bruised arm. "That's how I got this. But I bit my tongue so I wouldn't make any noise." Vivian nods at the girl, "That's really good."

Jane begins to try and remember what happened when she was in the back of the truck. "I'm... I'm... I'm wiggling out of the rug. Just like Mom taught me. I'm finally out of the rug."

"Do you remember any smells? Anything you may have seen? Any sights that look familiar?" Casey decides to ask. And Jane thinks back and wonders. "Sky. And wires. And birds. There was, uh, a stop sign. And a big tree."

"Were their houses around?" Vivian asks. "It was like those neighborhoods we'd see on TV. I remember a street name. Uh, Wallace Road?" Vivian and Casey exchange a look and Casey and Vivian stand.

"That's great. That's really good, Jane." Vivian assures and Jane smiles. She pulls something out of her pocket. It's small. "What's that in your hand?" Vivian decides to ask and Jane holds it up to reveal a rotten tooth.

"Bad tooth," Jane said. "My mom's." Vivian and Casey exchange another look. It's a DNA sample they can get from the family.

"Um, is there any way we can take that? To do a dental sample? You can have it the entire time but this will help us lead us to your mom." Casey tells. Jane hesitantly nods at the women.

━━━━━━

The team was running out of time. It was now hours since Jane was found and now Vivian and Casey stayed with her so she could feel safe. They ran DNA and were currently trying to narrow the search for Wallace Road and Jane's mother.

Casey's cell phone begins to go off and Casey goes to answer it quickly, knowing it's the team. "Yeah?" There's a pause. "Casey, are you with Vivian, right now?" Rossi's voice chirps up and Casey looks towards Vivian and Vivian looks her way, wondering what the team may have found.

"Uh, yeah." Casey says, kind of confused on what's going on. "Step outside for a second." Spencer tells and Casey furrowed her brows as she goes to excuse herself before walking down the hall.

Vivian shrugs it off and looks at Jane on the bed. "Did your mother plan your escape, Jane?" Vivian decides to ask and Jane nods, "Yeah. She told me that this man took her a long time ago. And then, she had my brother and then she had me."

"You guys are all pretty brave to survive that." Vivian tells. "I admire it." Jane smiles a bit and then looks down at the tooth in front of her. "What's are your brothers' name?"

"Jack and Michael," Jane spoke, making Vivian think for a moment. "They're both older than me, Jack by five years and Michael by two."

While Vivian continues to talk to Jane, Casey is on the phone with the team and she's confused. "What's this about?" She whispers.

"Garcia." Rossi starts, encouraging her to speak. Casey hears Garcia take a deep breath in. "Okay, we, uh, we ran that DNA on that tooth that Jane had and we found a match." Casey's eyes widen. "And?"

"We found a match for a, uh, Genevieve Hudson." Garcia reveals.

Casey is confused for a moment and then pieces it together. That's the name of Vivian's older sister. "What?" Casey is now beyond in shock. "Vivian's sister, the one that was kidnapped 30 years ago? That Genevieve Hudson? She'd be in her late forties right now." Casey couldn't believe what she was hearing.

"That only means that..." Tara starts and JJ finishes, "Genevieve's been alive this entire time. Along with the children she'd given birth to."

"Jane said she had two other siblings. The fact that they're all alive is a freaking miracle." Casey speaks. "Have you gotten anything on that street name yet?"

"Narrowing the search down." Garcia tells.

"What do I tell Vivian? Nothing?" Casey asks. Vivian spent most of her time, believing her sister was dead. And the fact that she wasn't, making Casey's stomach twitch for Vivian.

"I think it's better she hear it from you." Rossi tells. Casey's eyes widen. "Me? Why me?" She questions. "Well, you're with her, for starters." JJ starts.

Casey then notices Vivian exit the room. A pained expression is written on her face and she looks like she's gonna hurl. Vivian doesn't even look Casey's way with her sorrowful expression. She then makes eye contact with Casey and she's still on the phone. That's why the team called her. She just figured it out.

"Uh oh." Casey spoke. "What?" Spencer's voice asked through the phone.

Vivian then quickly moves over to the nearest trashcan and pukes into it, retching bile out for a moment before lifting her hair out of her face, wiping her mouth and then walking away.

"I think she just found out." Casey tells the team.

Another hour had passed and Casey decided to leave Vivian alone for that hour. When she finally decided to go and find her, Vivian was sitting on the ground, head resting on the wall, zoned out. Casey knew what it was like, believing in something and then finding out the complete opposite.

Casey decided to make her presence known, approaching her. "Vivian?" The woman looked up at her and Casey had decided to sit right next to her on the ground. Vivian sucked her teeth as she kept her eyes fixated on a focal point. "Did you find out?" Vivian spoke, causing Casey to look her way, confirming that Vivian now knew about her sister.

"The team did," Casey admitted. "Right around the time you found out."

Vivian took a shaky breath and Casey could help but notice her foot tapping and she fiddles with her hands in her lap. "I spent thirty years, telling myself that she was dead. That it'd be better to think that way. To not mourn her like that."

There's a long pause until Vivian speaks. "Did you know that my middle name is Jane?"

Casey's eyes look her way again as Vivian chuckles to herself. "And Jane has two brothers. Michael and Jack. Phillip is my brother's middle name and Jack is my dad's name." There's another pause. "Did my family find out yet?"

Casey blinks and looks down. "Rossi and JJ said they'd take care of that. And right now, we are doing everything we can to get your sister out of her hell. Because she's survived. The tooth is proof. And she's alive. You never get to mourn her again."

The woman begins to cry and Casey has very honestly never seen her cry as she did before. Casey puts a comforting hand on her knee and Vivian grabbed her hand as she continued to sob.

━━━━━━

After narrowing the search, they had found Vivian's sister, Genevieve, along with her sons. They all looked they hadn't eaten anything in a long time. Once they had gotten them out of their hell, Spencer called Casey and he said three words, "We got 'em."

Casey then looked at Vivian and nodded to her. Vivian's face broke out in a small smile and she went to go tell Jane the news about her mother and brothers.

The next day, Genevieve and her children all slept in the same hospital room. It was one of those bigger ones and a mattress was set next to the hospital bed.

And once Vivian's mother heard the news, she immediately went straight to the hospital with Vivian's brother. Casey and Vivian were the first people Vivian's family ran into. "Mom?" Vivian spoke and the woman ran straight to her daughter. "Is it her? Is it really her?" Joyce questions her daughter.

"Yes, Mom. It is. You were right. After all this time, you've always been right." Vivian holds her mother's hands as she begins to weep. "Mom, this is Agent Casey Willows, my colleague. Casey, this is my mother, Joyce and my brother, Phillip."

Vivian's brother holds a hand out for Casey to shake. "How do you do?" Casey nods to the man, "It's nice to finally meet both of you officially. I've heard great things." Casey smiles.

"Agent Willows and I gonna show you where Genevieve is. And be patient with her, she's... been through a lot." Vivian reminds her mother and she nods. Joyce holds her son's hand as she head towards a hospital room.

Tara and Spencer are waiting outside the room while Rossi and JJ are inside, talking to Genevieve and her children. When they enter the room, time moves slow. Genevieve stands up from the bed, gazing at her mother and they both immediately cry in each other's arms. "Oh, my baby." Joyce cries, holding her child's face in her hands.

Casey waits with Tara and Spencer outside of the room, but watches as the scene goes on, wrapping her arm around her husband as she leans on his shoulder and they all smile at the scene.

Genevieve then hugs her brother, having to go on her tippy-toes to do so. "You're so tall." Genevieve says as they both shed a tear. Genevieve looks behind her brother and notices her younger sister. She's not so little to her anymore. Now, she's a grown woman. A part of the people that saved her. Vivian wanted to give her as much space as she needed before deciding to reunite with her sister and she decided to do it at the same time as her mother and brother.

Genevieve takes her hands to her sister's face and smiles. "You've grown up, Viv." Vivian gives a shaky smile to her older sister. And for a minute, she thinks she's died and had reunited with her sister. But she was here, in front of her, in real time. "I knew you'd do something great someday."

Vivian pulls her sister in for a bone-crushing hug, well, as bone-crushing as she could make it. Genevieve introduces her children to her family. Michael, Jack and Jane.

In this moment, Vivian had the closure she needed and in time, she realized that her family would be okay. And that time would no longer stand still and a weight flew off the Hudson shores. Vivian smiled at the sight of her family, knowing she had another family internally that was counting on her. She looked over at Rossi and made a decision.

━━━━━━

The next four weeks were chaotic to say the least. Genevieve and her children had tried to reacquaint to their new lives, even if it wasn't easy enough to do. The scars that were invisible took the longest to heal. Vivian had taken those four weeks off to spend as much time with her family as long as she could before she left.

She had just broken the news to them last night. As much as she could reveal at least. Around two weeks into spending time with her family, Vivian had sent in her letter of resignation, knowing it needed to be done.

Vivian was currently at her desk, cleaning up as much as she could. She had picked up her own plaque and smiled as she traced the lettering with her fingers. It's funny how she started here simply to replace Casey for a short amount of time when she went on maternity leave. The reason she stayed, she never quite figured out. But she knew it had something to do with the BAU unit chief.

"Hey," Casey spoke behind her. "Why didn't you tell me you were leaving? And that you all of a sudden sent in your letter of resignation?" She questioned.

Vivian smiled as she stood up. "I would've thought you already knew. Everyone else did." Casey sighed and Vivian looked at the woman carefully. "Hey. I'll be okay." She assured. "And besides it's not my last case, I think I'm gonna join Aaron on his case before I do."

Casey looked at the woman and then leaned in for a big hug. "I'm gonna miss you." She said and Vivian smiled, returning the hug. "I'm gonna miss you, too."

"In fact, all of us are gonna miss you." Vivian furrowed her brows at Casey's words as Rossi appeared behind her. "You know, you can't really go away without a going-away party."

So, the team had all arrived at Rossi's mansion for Vivian's going-away party. Vivian had reluctantly joined the team as they all had fun with one another, partying and talking with one another as if there wasn't a care in the world. Most of them even danced the night away.

Vivian and Rossi stood next to one another, watching as the team had gotten carried away with their shenanigans. They even noticed Spencer and Casey as they passed by them. "Hey, where are you two going?" Rossi questioned the two.

"I think your guest bedroom is calling our names, Rossi." Casey spoke as she pulled Spencer's tie along with her into the house. "Sorry!" Spencer apologized. "I promise, we'll clean the sheets!" Vivian could help but laugh aloud. "You better! Bambini pazzi." He muttered that last part under his breath.

Vivian looks around. "Can't believe they threw me a going-away party." She spoke. "Kind of the package deal when you take the job." Rossi told. There's a moment of silence between the two until Rossi speaks up again.

"What did you tell them?" He asks, curiously. He was the only other person that knew what was really going on with Hotch. Emily, Rossi and Vivian all knew.

"I told them that I'm resigning. Effective immediately." Vivian stated. Rossi turns towards Vivian in disbelief and expectancy. "You're staying with Aaron." He said.

Vivian sighed, "I have to, Rossi." She tells. "After what Scratch did, he's gonna need backup. And besides... we're together and we decided that we're together on everything. It's better I disappear with him, anyways."

"What about your family?" Rossi asks. "You just got your sister back. She needs you. And so do your children." Vivian shakes her head, "My sister needs time to heal right now. That's what she needs. And she's got my brother and my mother. And her kids. And my kids, I spent a lot of time with them. I'm sure they could use a break." Vivian jokes at that last part.

Rossi looks down and then back at everyone having fun. "I've got everything handled, Dave." Vivian assured to the man.

"I'll tell everyone you said goodbye." Rossi told. Vivian sighed, tears in her eyes as she blinked them back. "It's just hard leaving everyone. I mean, they've... become—"

"Family?" Rossi nods at the woman. "I know. But this will be over before you know it."

Vivian nods, "I hope you're right." She then looked towards the man. "Thank you, Dave. For everything."

With that, Vivian Hudson had left the part even if she was the guest of honor. She knew she had to get ready so she could be with Hotch and Jack, to be with them and to protect them. She knew that if Hotch was going down, she was going down with him. Because they were a couple and she was gonna be there with him every step of the way.

Vivian Hudson's time at the BAU had come to an end. So much gained and so much lost. And even thought these were circumstances she didn't expect to see it ending here, she tried to make the best of it. Because that's what she always did. And now she'd do it with Aaron Hotchner by her side.
