Before he replaced it with a mask of annoyance, you saw how much it hurt to hear the joke and see the smiles as the response.  Glaring at his own reflection until you grabbed his shoulder. 

"Mostly he makes me uncomfortable--. It's those eyes of his. They're unnerving. Golden and piecing."

You asked someone you introduced him to  why they  didn't like Thad, why they felt uncomfortable with him.. It wasn't about the arrogance, or the intensity he was known to have, instead it was about that part of his appearance... His eyes which resembled a bird of prey, a supernatural monster...

Thad had been standing by the door, hearing the entire thing..  He sped away to another room.. You found him accelerating the molecules in a tennis ball to the point it exploded.
