Chapter Two

-Kara-

"LEAH! Wake up! School starts in an hour but we need to go early to get familiarized with our classes". Leah turned and groaned under her blanket.

"LEAH!" I yanked the blanket off of her.

After doing so, I ran to the shower and quickly freshened up. After tying my hair back into a ponytail and securing it with a bow, I put on my uniform. It was adorable; there was a small skirt and sweater with a tie and long knee socks to go with. We didn't have a uniform in America so I loved this.

I opened the door and there stood Leah ready to go. As always, she looked beautiful. I sighed. I was always jealous of my cousin's small petite frame. I wasn't a giant, Leah was just a couple inches shorter than me. Her legs were just shorter than mine so basically everything looked extra cute on her. Her dark hair was braided to the side with small strands falling in her face.

"Ready?" She asked. I nodded. "Let's go! "

Jenny drove us to school after picking up breakfast on the way there. While stuffing my face with a muffin, I thought of how much I missed my mom's homemade muffins. I shook the thought out of my head.

We pulled up to the school and to our surprise, there were hundreds of students all over campus.

"Oh my god." Leah whispered.

"Yeah." I agreed.

"Ok guys, well... make tons of friends and have fun! What else do parents say? Uh.... don't get pregnant and stay in school! ANNYEONG!" Jenny drove away as fast as she could, leaving Leah and I in laughter.

"Hey! Guys!" We both turned around to see D.O. from the other day running towards us.

"Hey D.O." Leah waved. Oh god.

"You guys look great. Especially now that you don't have a bruise on your nose," he poked Leah's nose as I mentally gagged. D.O laughed an awkward laugh.

"How about I show you guys around?" He suggested.

"That would be awesome." Leah smiled.

"Of course it would," I mumbled.

Leah glared at me in silence, but didn't say anything. Instead she followed D.O who was already heading towards the school, and I slowly followed behind them.

"There's many electives and clubs you can join at our school to become a part of our little family," D.O. said as he walked us down the sidewalk. "This building on the right is our fine arts building. You'll find choir, band, art, theater and everything you can think of in that category there." He gestured to the building on the right, "This building over here leads to the locker rooms, which is where the Athletics change out and then go to those fields." He pointed.

"Hey Kara! That's for you! You should join track here!" Leah suggested, "My cousin is a track star. Back in America, she has a national title."

"Woah! Seriously?!" D.O.'s eyes widened in surprise.

"Yeah I guess." I shrugged.

"That's awesome! Leah what are you into then?" Asked D.O curiously.

"Leah's a writer and a photographer. She writes stories and takes pictures and is amazing at it too." I answeredl

"Hey, me too!" D.O. smiled, "Maybe we can get together and write a story one day."

Leah laughed. "Why not?"

"We should go see the photography room then." Said D.O.

"Yeah that sounds great!" Leah replied as they began making their way to the front of the school again.

"Umm guys I'm gonna check out the track. You guys can go ahead." They nodded as they were in conversation so I grabbed my bag and walked into the fine arts building instead. So much for showing the both of us around the school. I began looking for the choir room and i got some weird looks from passing students as well.

After being lost for ten minutes, I started hearing someone playing the piano. Hmmm... I followed the sound to a big auditorium. I looked through the glass and saw someone sitting on the stage on a piano playing. It was a guy.
He was playing his heart away. I couldn't hear the music well so I slowly opened the door and hid behind a seat as I watched.

He was playing a slow song and he was absolutely amazing. I was mesmerized. I examined the boy's features and noticed his dark hair that was messily perfect. Yes, messy but perfect. After listening for about twenty minutes, he stopped.

"Joenachim." He called. Good morning. I knew that.

Oh crap. He knew I was in here. I stood up and fixed my skirt. I cleared my throat.

"Sorry I was just leaving.." I apologized.

"Yi-ri-wah." Come here. He gestured. I walked to the stage where he was still sitting on the piano.

As I got closer I noticed how perfect his features really were. He was adorable. He had soft eyes that sparkled under the theater lights and his hair glistened.
"Ileumi meo eyo?" What's your name? He asked me.

"Kara." I replied.

He replied with something super long and I had no idea what it meant. Crap. How do I ask if he knows English.

"Yeong-eo hallsu isseyo?" I think that's right.

"ye wayeo?" Why?! Because my Korean sucks.

"Han gukeo motayo." I looked down at my shoes. I don't speak Korean very well.

"You don't speak Korean?!" The boy burst into laughter.

"Hey what the heck!" I said getting embarrassed.

"You're Korean though!" He managed.

"I was born in America, I just moved here. I can only speak a little bit of Korean so I had no idea what you asked me just before."

"Oh sorry. I just asked what you were doing here stalking me." He replied, jokingly, completely embarrassing me.

"I wasn't stalking you. I was looking for the track." I murmured.

"You're way far from there. Let me take you there." He smiled.

"Okay." I agreed. I grabbed my bag and books and followed him out of the auditorium.

"You're in track?" He asked as we walked.

"Not yet. I was in America." I answered.

"Are you good?" He asked.

"I don't know. I guess I'm okay," I shrugged.

"Are you into music?" He asked.

"Yeah why? How did you know that?" I asked.

"I saw you singing along to the song I was playing" he smiled, his dimples peeking through. Oh goodness. Those dimples were familiar. Min ho had dimples. I shook my head to get the thought out.

Crap. "I don't sing." I felt my face turn red. I only sang when I was alone.

"Sure you don't Kara." He replied.

"You never told me your name."

"I'm Kai." He added, before being interrupted.

"Kai!" A tall guy who was a little taller than Kai came up to us, his hair drenched in sweat.

"Kara, this is my best friend, J.b."

"Annyeong." I waved.

"Hi. Do you not speak korean?" He asked me.

"I'm okay at it. I just moved here from America." I added.

"Oh cool. It's great to meet you, what brings you to the Athletics hall?"

"I did track in America and I want to try to do it here as well." I replied.

"You're the track star! D.O. Just told me about you! You have a national title back in America!" J.b. exclaimed. What the? Why was D.O such a big mouth?

"National?! You said you were okay!" Kai turned to me.

I shrugged and laughed it off.

"Kai I can take it from here. I'll just give her a tour of the place." J.b. said.

"Okay.." Said Kai hesitantly, "I'll see you later then Kara." He pat my back. and I nodded kind of startled by the sudden contact.

"So what brings you to Korea?" He asked me as we made our way out onto the fields.

"My cousin was given a job offer, so I came with her and my other cousin who goes here too.."

"What's her name?" He asked.

"Leah. She's super friendly, you'd like to meet her."

"That's cool, I can't wait to if she's anything like you," I almost choked on the air I was breathing. And there was a brief moment of awkward silence. Was that a means of flirting?

"These are the soccer fields ," Jb said with an awkward and embarrassed look on his face as he cleared his throat.. He pointed to two large fields, changing the subject, "And this is the track," he added quickly referring to a track.

After walking around the fields and introducing me to some of the other runners, J.b. and I went inside again.

"Do you know where your first class is?" He asked me.

"Actually no, but I'll find it when I meet up again with my cousin." I replied.

"Okay. Well if we don't have any classes together, take care." J.b. smiled and I noticed his perfectly white set of teeth.

"Bye." I waved as I walked to the front of the school again.

"Kara!" I saw Leah running towards me by herself.

"Hey Leah! Where have you been?" I asked her.

"D.o. Has been showing me around a bit. How about you?" She asked me.

"Well I got a little help from some fellow students but is there something going on between you and D.o. That I should know about?" I questioned.

Leah's eyes widened,"Yah! Michuso?! Are you crazy?! Never. I barely know him. If you hadn't forgotten he slammed a door in my face."

"So you don't find him attractive?" I asked.

"Aniyo. Nope. I mean yes. He is. I do. He's really cute. But he as a girlfriend anyway if anything, not that I care."

"Ah I see." I couldn't tell whether or not Leah was lying about caring but my thoughts were interrupted with a tap on my shoulder.

"Yah! Dang shin mo ya?!" What are you? A girl who had long straight black hair was standing before me and Leah with her arms crossed. Beside her were two other girls around the same age.

"Mi ah neh, hanguko jokeum halssu isseyeo." Leah explained that her Korean wasn't that great.

"Yeah I can tell. Did you guys just move here or something I can barely understand you." The girl smacked her gum as her friends snickered.

"Yeah. It's our first day. I'm Kara and this is Leah." I said.
"I don't remember asking. All I came to say is I've heard D.O. is helping you out and stuff. STAY AWAY FROM HIM. Otherwise I will destroy you. Bye!" The girl then walked away.

"I'm guessing that's the girlfriend." I said.

"Yeah me too." Leah replied.

I put my hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry, you didn't do anything wrong. She's just crazy." I said, "besides, D.O. Is the one flirting with you."

"Yeah I guess you're right." She mumbled.
