"How's Adelram?"
Oberon's rough voice cut through the silence as they all sat at the small wooden table for dinner. Robin was mindlessly picking at his food, the only thing running through his mind was the thought of Ronnie.
Nikolai had yet to leave Adelram's bedside, and frankly, Robin wasn't surprised. The two seemed to be rather inseparable, and although Robin knew very little of the two, he could tell that they'd probably do anything for each other.
Yoshii sat crisscross at the corner of the table, nibbling on his own small plate of food. He looked up at the mention of the dark haired fairy, his expression dissolving into that of worry.
"Well," Hermia began, her cerulean eyes holding Yoshii's gaze, "he could definitely be doing better. A lot better."
Robin sat there for a few moments, contemplating her words. "Will he make it?" he questioned suddenly, regretting it soon afterwards.
Hermia took a breath, placing her utensils down on her plate. She folded her hands in her lap, brows knitting together. "No..."
A small intake of breath was all that Robin heard following the statement. His glance traveled over to Yoshii, whom was seemingly frozen in place. Robin reached his hand out, laying a finger on the fairy's back as he lightly began to comfort him. "I'm sorry," he murmured, a little disoriented from the news.
All the brunette fairy responded with was a nod, staring down at his lap. Nothing was spoken and no tears were shed.
"Do we tell Nikolai?" Robin asked, looking back up at Hermia.
The woman sat there for a bit, murmuring a few things to herself here and there before she looked Robin dead in the eyes, nodding.
"I think we should," she spoke, standing from her spot at the table and picking up her plate, placing it in a pot similar to Kima's own, only hers had seemingly regular water. Robin followed suit, dipping it in the water. Oberon brought his as well as Yoshii's over, gesturing towards the hallway.
"Y'three should go break the news to 'im," he spoke, a hint of wariness evident in his voice. Hermia instantaneously obliged, grabbing Robin's hand with her own and scooping up Yoshii in her other.
As they walked down the hallway, Robin's heart pounded faster that normal. He was afraid, more specifically, afraid of Nikolai's reaction. He didn't want to cause the pink haired fairy more trouble than he was already in, but he was assuming it had to be done.
Hermia stopped at the door of the room Adelram was located in, slowly opening the door.
There, on the small bed, laid Adelram, completely unconscious. Next to him sat Nikolai, his hands firmly grasping one of Adelram's own. His eyes were swollen and red as he looked up at the three, biting a lip.
"Nikolai," Hermia began, stepping over to the small creature. She crouched right near the two, her eyes darting between them.
"Why hasn't he woken up?" Nikolai murmured, tightening his hold on the other fairy's hand. "I thought he would've by no-"
"Adelram isn't going to make it, Nikolai." Hermia's straightforwardness shocked Robin to say the least. He wasn't sure what to do, and as soon as he saw Nikolai's expression, he might as well have been stabbed through the heard.
The fairy's eyes were wider than ever before, tears pricking at the corners. His eyebrows were closely knit as his gaze traveled down to the fairy laying before him, the tears finally falling.
No one moved, no one said a word as they watched. They let Nikolai be, sparing a few worried glances towards each other.
Yoshii had huddled himself in Hermia's hands, covering his eyes. He was turned away, but Robin could hear a few sniffles emitting from the green-eyed fairy.
They had stood there for what seemed like years before Nikolai fell asleep, though none of them knew why they waited that long. Hermia had resorted to placing the fairy on a small blanket next to Adelram, watching with disdain as she stepped out of the room, Robin and Yoshii in tow.
-
It was nearly midnight before Robin woke with a start, sobs echoing through the entire house. Slowly, he stepped out of the bed he was granted, tiptoeing out of the room and down the hall. The cries became louder as he neared the medical room, knowing full well what was happening inside.
The door creaked as it opened, catching the attention of all but Nikolai. Hermia stood, her eyes glazed over as she headed towards Robin.
"He's no longer with us," she murmured, leading him over to Adelram's bedside.
The black-haired fairy was cradled in Nikolai's arms as he rocked back and forth, tears streaming down his eyes. He let out choked sobs, burying his face in Adelram's hair.
Said fairy's skin had paled dramatically, leaving him looking ghostly. His lips had purpled and dark circles were evident around his eyes. His body was limp- almost too limp, and it sickened Robin to see him like this.
"I'm so sorry," he mumbled, casting his eyes down. Yoshii came and nestled himself on his shoulder, grasping onto his shirt collar.
Nikolai paid no attention to Robin's statement, clutching Adelram tightly. He continued to rock, letting out choked sobs. Robin fought of tears, biting his lip as he watched.
"I'm so sorry..."
