Chapter 8: Moral

The weather was stormy and it was raining heavily on the roads, it was complicated to see especially in the middle of the night. Vigilance was to be doubled, especially when streetlights that lit the road, did not work very well. Armin's parents were coming out of the cinema, it was a very interesting film, bringing a lot of knowledge. The road was clear but unfortunately it took only one mistake for everything to change. A car had not respected the priority on the right and had sunk in that of the Arlert. The couple died on the shock stroke, just like the driver who caused the accident.
Annie straightened up without a word in the face of this sad announcement, she was not very good at words to reassure someone, or even to cheer him up and blame himself for being so weak. She gently grabbed the phone and put it on her side before she sat down next to him. Hesitantly, she moved closer and passed her right arm around her shoulders while the other slipped on the right side of the blonde forcing him to turn to her. Collapsed, he hid his face in Annie's hollowness who said nothing, understanding her pain, because she too had experienced this, with her mother, who died tragically five years ago. Annie could feel the wet tears of her comrade, sliding down her neck. But suddenly she felt herself observe, she turned her head to her left and saw a shadow that quickly escaped her vision. Someone had watched them through the window of the rink? Not a journalist ...

-We have to train ..." Armin suddenly stepped back, before getting up awkwardly, bringing Annie out of his thoughts.
-I'm not sure you're okay, you should go back," she said, watching him go to the rink, without him turning once.
- I'm fine ! he spat, startling the blonde who had just got up from the bench. I just want to think of something else, we have to repeat our choreography. We only have a few weeks left

Annie clenched her teeth and put on her skates before joining him on the ice, in silence. She could not help glancing at him, who was circling the runway warming his wrists and arms. She had never seen him like that, so badly. Although it had only been a month since she knew him, she had learned a great deal about him. He was completely immersed in his thoughts. After a short warm-up, they reworked the choreography with several faults, Armin lifted Annie up for the carry, but he slipped on the ice, before his back hit the icy ground. Annie crashed on him before quickly slipping out to see his condition.

- Well, you come home, if you continue you'll hurt yourself.
- No I...
- You go back home !

Armin looked up at the blonde, her eyes reflecting anger and pain at the same time. Annie grabbed her hand without a word before pulling it back on her skates. She swiveled and skated to the exit of the rink before removing them.

- Today, no training and tomorrow either. If you need more days, you can. Call me when you feel close. Okay ?
-Thanks ..." Armin mumbled, staring at the floor, avoiding eye contact with her.
- That's normal, we are a Partner.

Eren and Mikasa had heard the news a few hours later, and they had gone to Armin's house to talk about it. But the blond did not want to see anyone because he refused to open the door to let them in. He was not answering messages and calls, which worried them a lot. Sasha and Connie had also tried to see him, but without success. There was nothing to do, he had to leave it alone.

Armin was watching TV without a word, his face was empty and white, marked by fatigue and sadness. His eyes were red, and dark circles were outlined. He poured himself a glass of alcohol and the goal was dry before using a second one. He ran his hand through his hair while squinting, his back pain still hurting him, at the same time falling on ice, it was not a pleasure. Armin grabbed his drink, still using alcohol, and prepared to drink it when he saw his pet jump on the couch. The cat was purring while rubbing him with joy, the blonde smiled and caressed his head awkwardly, bringing his glass to his lips, when the ring of his door, stopped him. He huffed and stood up, catching himself on a wall before grabbing the handle of his free hand to open it. Annie was staring at her, she seemed worried, and that was confirmed when she saw the glass in her partner's hand, noticing that it was not water. The blonde grabbed him quickly and took the arm of the blonde who wondered what she wanted. She ordered him to sit on the couch, which he did without flinching. Annie poured the alcohol into a lever and closed the front door before sitting a few feet away from him.

- How many drinks did you drink? Annie asked, staring at the half-empty bottle on the coffee table, trying to get a feel for it herself, knowing full well that he was not going to answer.

-I don't know ... the blond mumbled sadly, staring at his knees.

Annie glanced at him, he was falling asleep. His arm grabs the shoulder of the latter, lying on the couch, resting his head on her thighs. His cheeks and red nose showed that he had drunk at least two or three glasses. Annie did not stop her blond hair from going to her left hand, looking at him silently, with a small smile. She grabbed the cover that rested on the armrest and put it on the body of the blonde, who was on the side. He had fallen asleep on her thighs, she grabbed the remote control and turned off the TV, suddenly settling in absolute calm, except for the purrs of the cat rubbing against her legs, and the blonde's breath. What reassured her was that the blond had not done any "bullshit", he had lost both his parents at the same time ... It was a very difficult event, which he was not supposed to to go alone, she was there.
