Prologue
Papillon stared at the dusk sky through his window, gritting his teeth as it began to close, darkening the room to match his furious surge of emotions.
"Foiled, yet again, by the ever clever Ladybug and Chat Noir." He snarled, his grip tightening on his staff as the once shimmering white butterflies settled down around the room, no longer able to fly without a suitable amount of light. The seething man turned on his heels, walking stiffly towards his most prized possession. As he walked in the dark with his ice blue eyes focused straight ahead, a crunch sounded from under his foot.
Instinct snapped him out of his pace, and he lifted his foot, scowling in disgust at the splattered butterfly under his shined and polished shoe. "Repulsive." He spat to himself, talking a step over the pancaked bug. "These insects are simply no use against those Miraculous, even when I poison them with my ambitions." He ranted as he reached a small, circular, glossed, wooden table, where a thick book sat, it's covers worn and torn from being handled over centuries.
"I've spent the last decades learning everything I could about each Miraculous and their individual powers... Yet Ladybug and Chat Noir continue to elude me so easily! What am I doing wrong?" He growled in frustration, opening the book to a saved page, which depicted an agile-warrior covered head-to-toe in blue peacock feathers. He placed his hand gingerly on the image.
Time to de-evilize!
I free you from evil!
Ladybug's voice, always filled with confidence and determination, rang in Papillon's ears, causing him to grit his teeth. "That nuisance Ladybug. She's the only Miraculous hero who can cleanse my akumas. If it weren't for her powers, I would already have Chat Noir's ring in my possession!" He yelled, slamming the ancient book shut.
Papillon took a deep breath, trying to keep a level head as he let his hands fall to his sides. "Dark wings, fall." He muttered, and the façade of Papillon fell, revealing a man with ash blonde hair and a suit with a red and white ascot. From the Miraculous, hidden under the ascot, came floating a small purple creature with butterfly-like wings. "Nooroo, you are dismissed." He said in an emotionless voice, waving the kwami away. Nooroo nodded, bowing his head and fluttered away to a shelf in the room, shrouded by darkness. Gabriel walked with his hands behind his back to a circle on the floor and tapped his foot on it.
"I will have to get a little more crafty if I wish to obtain their Miraculous." He grumbled as the circle on the floor began to lower into the ground. "I trust that the solution will find me with time. It always has."
