Chapitre Quatre: Nouveaux amis

I just wanted to clarify that I am not going by canon heights for this fanfic. The idea of some of the characters being below 4 foot when they're teenagers... doesn't sit right with me. So for all the canon heights, I added one foot (except Gabriel/Papillon, since he's literally already 7 foot and that's plenty tall enough .-.)

So yeah, for reference: Mylène is around 4'9". Marinette is 5'5" and Alya is 5'7".

"Gosh, there's so much to explain." Alya stated as she walked over to Evaelle and placed a hand on her shoulder. "First things first, are you okay?"

Evaelle brought one of her hands up and pressed the palm to her forehead. Her heart was still racing and her mind was quite fuzzy. "I think so. Just... tired and wet."

"Don't worry about Kim and Max. They were sent to the principal's office after you left. They'll probably be getting detention." Alya stated.

"Is that why you were almost akumatized? Because of Kim and Max?" Marinette asked as she pulled out her phone and started typing.

Evaelle furrowed her brows. She thought she was fluent in French, but apparently not. "What does akumatization mean?"

"It's a long story. Basically, this super-evil villain hiding out somewhere in Paris- Papillon. He sends out these black and purple butterflies called akumas. The akumas enter an object and basically give someone super powers. That's what akumatization means." Alya explained.

"Papillon targets people who are feeling overwhelming negative emotions. They use their powers to get revenge over those who wronged them, but they also to try and steal Ladybug and Chat Noir's Miraculous." Marinette stated.

When Evaelle gave Alya another confused look, she laughed. "Those are the two superheroes who protect Paris. There's also Rena Rouge, Carapace, and Queen Bee, but they only show up in situations where Chat and Ladybug can't defeat the villain by themselves."

"Papillon also has a partner, but we don't know a lot about them yet." Marinette added.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, before it opened and a girl around Evaelle's size peered in. She had blonde hair twisted into locs, with some pieces colored green, blue and magenta. Her wide brown eyes were swimming with concern as she looked over the three girls. "Hey, Marinette, I got your message. Is everything okay?"

"Everything's good, Mylène. I just wondering if you had any extra clothes for Evaelle so she doesn't have to go home soaked." Marinette explained, gesturing towards Evaelle.

Mylène looked at Evaelle and gasped. "Oh gosh, Kim really got you, didn't he? I think I actually do have an extra outfit in my locker. Let me grab them." She stated as she walked quickly to her locker.

"Thank you." Evaelle smiled, rubbing her elbow with her other hand. "I'll return them to you washed and folded tomorrow."

"It's no problem." Mylène assured her.

By the time Eva had changed out of her wet clothes, class had ended and the rest of the girls returned to the locker room. Mylène waited for her other friends while Evaelle, Marinette, and Alya exited the locker room. Evaelle stopped in her tracks as she saw Max and Kim walking towards her with Nino and a blonde boy hovering behind them.

"Evaelle," Max started as he stopped in front of Eva, adjusting his glasses as he took a deep breath. "I truly apologize for spraying you with the fountain water. I hope we can move past this and forge a friendship in the future." He stated, holding out his hand.

Eva smiled slightly at the goofy language and shook his hand. "I forgive you, Max."

Max stepped aside, replaced by Kim. He was frowning and sighed as he looked down at Eva. "I'm sorry too. I shouldn't have laughed at you when you were obviously upset." He offered her his hand as well. "I promise it will never happen again... and if it does, I won't laugh at you."

Eva nodded, shaking her hand as well. "I'll hold you to that. But I forgive you."

"Awesome!" Kim cheered, before looking up and glaring slightly at Nino. "You should still watch your back though, Lahiffe. I'm coming for you."

"Yeah, great idea, Kim." Alya muttered as Kim and Max went their own way. When they were gone, Alya stepped forward and placed a kiss on Nino's cheek. "Sorry for running out of the gym on you."

"It's all good. I'm glad Evaelle's okay." Nino looked to her. "That was completely uncool, Evaelle. Sorry you got caught in that."

Evaelle smiled. "It's okay. Oh!" She held out Nino's pen to him. "I was trying to return this to you."

"Ahh, thanks dudette! You're seriously rad." Nino laughed as he took the pen.

"Yeah she is! When me and Marinette busted in there, Evaelle had an akuma in that pen! And guess what? She actually managed to resist the akuma!" Alya exclaimed.

Both Nino and the blonde boy's jaw dropped. "No way! Has that ever happened before?" Nino asked.

"Not that I know of! Evaelle," Evaelle jumped in surprise at Alya shouting her name so loudly, "you should let me interview you for the Ladyblog!"

"The... Ladyblog?" Evaelle raised her brow.

"Oh, don't even get her started." Marinette teased.

"That's pretty impressive though." The blonde boy stated.

When the blonde boy spoke, Marinette's smile instantly widened, and she bounced slightly on her heels as she spoke. "Oh! It for sure wasn't! I mean, it really was aggressive- impressive! It really was impressive."

The boy chuckled before looking at Evaelle. "I don't think I officially introduced myself. I'm Adrien." He stated, offering his hand.

Evaelle took his hand and shook it lightly. "Nice to meet you. I'm- well, you know who I am already." She joked with a small smile.

He laughed slightly at that. The conversation might have continued if Adrien's phone didn't emit a loud beep. He grabbed it out quickly. "An akuma alert." He stated, his eyes narrowing as the news channel began playing on his phone.

"Oh no, Papillon must have found a different victim to akumatize." Alya frowned.

"Oh jeez, I should probably get home right away so my parents don't worry!" Marinette said in a matter-of-fact manner, before taking off towards the main entrance.

"And I have Chinese- see you guys later!" Adrien shouted as he followed Marinette out of the door.

"There they go again." Alya shook her head. "Did Adrien say where the akuma was at?"

"Nah, he didn't." Nino stated, pulling out his phone. "Trying to film it for the Ladyblog?"

"I want to, but I'll never make it in time." Alya muttered.

Evaelle rocked back and forth on her heels, not sure if she was still apart of the conversation or not. She slowly began walking away and headed towards the door when she felt a hand grab her wrist. She turned back to see Alya looking at her with a raised brow. "Hold up girl, don't you wanna watch to see Ladybug and Chat Noir defeat the villain?"

"Oh, sure." Evaelle stated, pursing her lips as she came to peer over Alya's shoulder, Nino peering over the other as they watched a man in a pigeon onesie announce that pigeons would finally be taking over Paris.

"Oh jeez, Papillon akumatized Mr. Pigeon again." Alya muttered.

Evaelle was not impressed. She watched Ladybug and Chat Noir swing in and exchange banter back and forth between the villain, and all too quickly, the fight was over and the akuma was freed.

"They made quick work of that." Nino commented.

"Well, yeah. This has to be their 20th time fighting that guy." Alya laughed.

Evaelle pressed her lips in a thin line. The theatrics of that villain were ridiculous. Ladybug and Chat Noir were probably alerted to him right away and he was so concerned with immediate revenge that he was hardly any use in obtaining the heroes' Miraculous. "This Papillon needs to find himself some more stealthy help if he's ever going to defeat Ladybug and Chat Noir."

Alya and Nino looked at Eva with slightly shocked expressions. "What do you mean?" Alya pressed.

"Well- is that how the fight normal goes? Big, scary villain who's super obvious that they're the bad guy stomps around angrily, then Chat Noir and Ladybug show up immediately and save the day?" Evaelle questioned.

"Yeah, that's how it always goes." Nino shrugged.

"Well, I'm not cheering for the bad guy or anything, but if he really wants to steal the Miraculous, he needs to switch it up." Evaelle stated.

Alya let out a short chuckle. "Well, don't tell him that. We want Papillon to stay as clueless as possible."

After the akumatized villain was defeated, the three teenagers parted ways. Or attempted too- Alya soon discovered that Evaelle lived in the same apartment building as her and they walked all the way home together. They split off on the second floor, bidding each other to have a good night, before Evaelle continuing up the second flight of steps to the third floor.

She pushed her door open. The living room was untouched from it's cluttered state it had been in when Eva had visited during her lunch break, but when she peered into her room, all that remained as evidence that she had moved was an abundance of empty boxes. Eva's bed was tucked away in a corner with her nightstand on it's right. Across the room, her TV stood gleaming on it's own, larger stand. Next to her closet, which was already filled with shirts and jackets, was a small dresser for her pajamas and pants. Finally, situated next to the door was her art station, and hung up all around her room was her various painting and projects.

To Eva, her finished room was a sight for sore eyes. She quickly changed out of her borrowed clothes, throwing on pajamas, before running Mylène's clothes to the washer. She then ran to her parents room to thank them, but when she opened the door and discovered them fast asleep, sprawled out on their bed, clothes and belongs still spread out around the room waiting to organized and put away.

Eva giggled. "Goodnight." She whispered, before slowly shutting the door. The kitchen was still empty, so Eva decided to just skip dinner for the night, opting to retire to her room. She finished up the small assignments her teachers had given her, put the washed clothes into the dryer, and then settled in for bed, ready to dream away her rocky first day in Paris.
