not even a day later, i once again stood outside her house. 

but instead of one yellow rose, i held two.

 they had a single yellow ribbon wrapped around the stems to hold them together.

 it was a strange amount of flowers but they had a significant meaning.

my cargo shorts waved in the warm october wind, as i used one shoe to itch my other ankle.

the screen door squeaked and my head shot up to see the most beautiful girl ever.

olivia was wearing jeans with a pink tank top and a white zip up sweater that was too big for her. 

it was the most simplest thing a girl could wear but it only looked good on her. 

as she approached me, she pushed her hair back and looked down at the roses.

"two roses?" she inquired as i handed the flowers to her.

"this is my second attempt at making you smile. one rose for each attempt."

"what happens if we reach one hundred attempts?"

"then i guess i'll buy you one hundred roses."

she let out a shortness of breath, which sounded like a laugh.

"is this okay?" she asked gesturing to her apparel. "i don't know what we are exactly doing and i-"

"it's perfect olivia."

the corners of her lips tugged, but not enough to be the smile that i saw the first day i saw her.

i was making progress.

"are you ready for the best night of your entire existence?"
