Twenty-four

By dawn, the house they had camped out at that night was completely empty and left in the condition they had found it. The seven kids were split up into two cars once again, both heading to the Main Artificial Intelligence Headquarters except heading to different sides of it.

"It would be best to split up," Jihyo had said. "If we get through two different entrances then if someone is caught, all the androids would head in that direction, clearing the way for the the ones at the other entrance."

And so they split up into two groups: Jeongin, Jade, Mary, Hyunjin, Jinyoung and Mina then Lisa, Changbin, Rose, Jihyo, Taecyeon and Megan. Then after that they split into smaller groups so they had a better chance of at least one reaching the Main Chip. Jeongin and Jade were obviously together just like Changbin and Lisa. They other pairs were Mary and Hyunjin, Rose and Megan and the other androids were to walk among them to keep the teenagers safe.

Time sped by as they drove to the Main Headquarters in silence. Although no one said a thing, it was obvious they were all thinkin whether this would be the last time they'd all be together.

Jade hadn't even realised she was shaking until she felt Jeongin's hand wrap around her own in an attempt to calm her down.

"It'll be alright," he uttered. "I promise."

She smiled as she felt Jeongin's arm shyly wrap around her waist and pull her closer to him. Jade lean her head against his shoulder while he leaned his on her.

"I really hope no one gets hurt," she uttered before glancing up at him. "I really hope you don't get hurt."

He smiled, looking down at her.

"No promises there."

"Jeongin," she said, pleading him to promise.

"Look, if someone tries to hurt you, I'll protect you and I'm not making any promises in case I get hurt then."

Jaydess instantly softened at his words before snuggling closer to him.

"Seriously? I spent five years of my life having to watch Changbin and Lisa snuggling and doing all those lovey-dovey stuff. Now I'm finally away from them and I have to watch your lovey-dovey stuff instead! When will I get a break?" Hyunjin complained.

"Let them be, Hyunjin," Mary chuckled as she ruffled his hair in a friendly manner. "We all knew this would happen."

"Wait, what? What does that mean?" Jade asked, surprised.

"You guys were the most reserved out of all of us yet so comfortable with each other. Everyone would have guessed that if you continued that way, you'd end up falling for each other," she told her, wriggling her eyebrows.

"Fall for each other? Who said I like him?" Jade asked.

"You don't?" Was what Jeongin replied with, seeming hurt.

"You do?" She questioned him, completely confused.

"Of course I do! How did you not know?"

"I just thought you were being friendly... Extra friendly."

There was silence between them as they moved away from each other, both staring out of the car windows to  take a second to think. Hyunjin and Mary glanced at each other, both feeling bad for messing things up between the two.

Finally after a minute of silence, Jeongin looked back at Jade, watching as she tried to avoid eye contact.

"So does that mean you don't feel the same?" He asked.

Jaydess sighed as she gazed at him.

"Jeongin..."

"So no," he replied with a sigh, tears forming in his eyes. "That's all you needed to say. Sorry for not getting the big picture."

The bitterness was evident in his voice but they could also hear his sadness. But who would blame him.

Jade wanted to respond or at least show that she did feel something special for him but Jeongin had already shut her out. She thought back to her childhood and realised after hating her father for long, she actually resembled him a lot more than she wanted to admit.

Jeongin opened up to her and instead of him betraying her, she betrayed him.

"I'm sorry," she uttered, staring at the back of his head but he didn't even bother looking back at her.

"No, I'm sorry for seeing it all wrong," he whispered.
