some guidelines I use (old)

I use a lot of guidelines when I sketch because it helps me a lot.
Hopefully this can help you guys, too.

First of all, the head and face.

Some basic things I follow are:
- Use lines across the face to represent ear placement, eye placement, and the brow bone.
- Ears fall right above the jawline.
- Eyes are usually a half of those circles apart.
- The nose is right where the bottom of the circle and the center line meet.
- Sketch out the hairline right where the forehead starts.

Next, upper body.

- Shoulders are the same width as the hips.
- When drawing a female character, use teardrop shapes when sketching breasts. Never use perfect circles.
-The collarbones are just a bit above the cleavage and underarms.
- Don't forget that all body types are different. Keep some variety.

Next is lower body.

- Be sure to use circles to represent joints.
- Be aware of how small or large you make the thigh gap. Try to avoid making it too big.
- Remember to not put a bulge on a woman or a vagina on a man. That just doesn't make sense, unless the character you're drawing is transgender.

I don't want to make a tutorial for legs or arms, but I will do hands.

- The thumb sticks out more than the rest of the hands.
- The middle finger is almost always longer than the rest.
- Try not to draw the fingers perfectly close together. People don't hold their hands out like that.
- Fingers aren't usually pointy, so try your best to avoid this.
- Palms are about the size of your character's face.

That's all for nowwwwww
