cervitaur shortstory
wow cervitaurs are adorable??? their like a centaur but instead or horse/cow it's a deer
--
Milky dawn sunlight dappled the grassy floor, shedding light upon a wide meadow surrounded by pine trees. This was where a herd of cervitaurs made home for the Summer.
Darting between the fronds, their hair blowing in the wind, two fawns ran side-by-side while chasing a hare.
"I told you, it's too fast!" another dawn, with pale skin and a light-colored coat, covered in little white dots near his haunches. His brown hair was ruffled from running, even though his mother had fixed it last night.
"Hah, nothing's too fast, Bay!" Another fawn, the one in the lead, called back. His muscles didn't feel strained or weak at all, in fact, he didn't even feel tired. Though, as he glanced over his shoulder at Bay, he crashed into something. Or, someone.
Him and the adult doe rolled over in the tall grass, scattering the berries she'd been carrying. He stumbled onto his skinny legs, staring at the pale doe he'd run into. She also stood, looking rather annoyed.
"Bumble! What did your mother say about paying attention when you play?" The adult scolded him with a harsh tone. Bumble, the fawn, looked down and pushed his cupped ears back, "I'm sorry, Dee..."
Dee brushed off her now-dusty tunic, "Truly, you must watch where your going. I don't want to see you with a broken leg just because you missed a rock." She moved the hair from her eyes, and Bumble glanced back at Bay and Hazel, watching from a few feet back. Bay was a year younger than him and Hazel, but still insisted on following them. He didn't mind, though.
Bumble realized the hare they were chasing must be far out of reach by now. The fawns, like him and his friends, weren't allowed so close to the pines without an adult except if it was by the mothers. He turned to trot back to the others, Dee trying to find the berries she could still use. Dee was the herd's healer.
"You almost caught it!" Hazel smiled, ears perked. "Yeah!" Bay hopped up beside her, his little white tail flicking. Bumble chuckled at their praise, and then dashed off into the tall grass, hollering, "Catch me if you can!"

"Autumn, your son's run into Dee again." There was a light of amusement in the doe's eyes as she dipped into the little pine-shielded hollow with nests scattered about.
"He has? Oh dear..." Autumn, Bumble's mother, twitched one of her ears. "And it sounds like Hazel and Bay were there, too." The doe who spoke first, Holly, settled down in a nest beside Autumn. Holly was the color of sky at midnight, still expecting her fawn, though not for a few more months.
"Bumble keeps getting into trouble." Briar, Bay's mother, murmured sleepily from her nest. "Oh come on, their still young! Bay will get into as much trouble as Bumble does when he reaches that age." Holly chuckled deeply, tail twitching. Autumn smiled at the two's antics.

Bumble raced through the long grass, trying to escape Hazel and Bay. His heart thumped, and his legs were hurting now. Him and them had been running around the meadow since dawn, and now, it was nearing noon. They still hadn't caught him.
Suddenly, something kicked the hooves out from under him, and he tripped, rolling over into the grass and coming to a stop on his back, deer legs waving in the air. He was dizzy and exhausted, panting as Hazel and Bay's faces blocked his view of the cloud-laden sky.
"Finally!" Bay collapsed, heaving a breathy laugh. Hazel trotted to the other side of Bumble, laying down as well. The three watched the sky for a while, laying in friendly silence as the clouds slowly drifted past.
Bumble got to his hooves, brushing dust from his back. "I'm going to go wander. You can stay here." Hazel stood, though, "No, I'll come." They glanced at Bay, who was staggering to his skinny legs. "Uh, sorry, I think my mom wants me." With that, he bounded away through the grass.
"Hm." Hazel twitched one of her cupped ears, and looked over the tall-grassed meadow. A meter or two away, two other fawns frolicked, chasing each other in circles and leaping, laughing rather loudly. They were Thorn and Thicket, brothers. Near them, Rain chased a fragile butterfly through the grass.
Bumble and Hazel headed for them. The two were like siblings, though not related by blood. Rain turned to look at them as they bounded over, smiling. Thorn and Thicket paused their game, hair messy.
"There you are! I heard you ran into Dee again." Rain trotted up to Bumble and Hazel, the tall grass brushing her flanks. Everyone has to make a big deal of that, don't they? Bumble thought.
