How Art Works

There have been various interpretations of how to express oneself. One of them that I wish to cover is the expression of art. Art is a language without words, that can be used to communicate with others like no other could before. Whether it be paintings, drawings, sculptures, carvings, or even calligraphy, art is something that anyone can make.

It twists to the side, then hits you right in the chest. Art can be abstract or presented in a simple sense. It is a form of expression through various methods of creation.

In some instances, art pieces are interpreted as too straightforward, instead of complex and sophisticated. Although, that does not make the piece wrong for being how it is. Just because of the way it is produced, cannot determine its value as a whole.

There are many art schools and courses to choose from. However, not going by classes and professionals principles on art, will not impact one's chance of success in the art world. In school, there is usually a right answer for each given question. Yet, when it comes to art, it is a whole new ball game.

There are many artists who disagree with how art is taught to younger artists. Although, this disagreement does not particularly mean that either side is wrong. It is left unsettled, but neither side has claimed to be better than the other.

Most art teachers are teaching the more dedicated students how to find their own artstyle and make it work. While these students take these lessons to art college with them. Once the individual has become serious about pursuing art, they must understand the overall process of art college.

Schools like the University of the Arts, are not for show, because they are no joke when it comes to their expenses. Simply passing the 2 entrance exams is hard enough. Then the overall finances of the school come into play. Which is why art is seen as an "unstable" or "radical" job, that is looked down upon among the masses.

The 2 entrance exams work like a marathon, the process keeps going until someone is determined to be the best. The first one has its own prompt that can be interpreted in a multitude of ways. The examinees sketch, shade, and paint for a total of 3 days, 5 hours each.

Some materials like watercolors or charcoal are strictly prohibited during these exams, so that they do not affect others' artwork. Which leaves some participants already at a disadvantage because they may specialize in watercolor or charcoal techniques.

Leaving students puzzled by their predicament, stuck in a world of wonder and they render their next approach. This is a stressful process that is extremely competitive, why even during their built-in break time, the atmosphere is suffocating!

But what really is overwhelming is waiting for the test results to be released. While waiting for the examinees to live with their determined fate. As they finally see it plastered up high, flooded with numbers that show who made the cut.

Once an artist becomes a full-fledged art student, they have begun their artistic journey. Not to say that other artists go down different paths than schooling, but are driven into a whole new direction. Art fluctuates in every setting imaginable, depending on the given environment. Some artists are inspired by the world around them, while others may be swayed by the words inside their head.

There are all sorts of concepts solely dedicated to all things art. Various techniques that can be used to make something great. Techniques such as blending, line drawing, and adaptation concerning prospective. However these techniques depend on which type of artist the creator may be.

Say if the creator wished to pursue a painting major, they could choose from oil painting, spray painting, acrylic painting, and even pastel painting. It is unclear if some are harder than others, but each type of painting requires high levels of skill. So that the artist is able to make these paintings, and make them well.

Art that is well made versus art that is simply made lies in the amount of effort and coverage was put into each piece. That is the beauty of art, that it can appear to be so simple on the surface, while in actuality, it is far from it. It is a form of expression overflowing into deeper emotion. Which leaves the viewer in a state of excitement as they watch all of the artist's emotions pour out all at once.

One can put their all into the thing that they love the most, but still fall flat on their face. Usually people who have observed art from the outside feel this way, but that is not necessarily true. Art can be created by anyone in the world, even small drawings that hang from fridges. After all, art has always had endless possibilities for its audience to pick from.

Interpretation was always a major factor when looking into the elements of art. It is the very thing that provides an explanation for what the artist was trying to say.

Producing art is another form of communication to others who form their own interpretations of the product. Similar to how novelists write a book with an intended message, while the message is delivered it is received differently. Which is where the glass-eye of perspective comes into play.

Perspective gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "birds-eye view." Since perspective is just how people see the world differently from others. It is the same with artists everywhere, they see things at a different angle. In the case of interpretation, it focuses more on the conceptual aspects of how the art pieces are thought about. But as for perspective, it can vary from worldview to other major beliefs. It is not limited to what one can see, but it dives into the emotions of the person as well.

In art, the perspective of the artist is the most important of all because that determines how their piece will be interpreted. If they wish to voice their opinion on certain global issues, that may find their way into their artwork.

Or if they feel strongly about nature, they may implement it into their visualaid. Since anything is up for interpretation, the artist can still continue to have their fun while creating something they hold dear to their heart.

Stepping away from the fundamentals of art, why not crawl back to the basics? Everyone knows that practice makes perfect, but it takes a long time to get there. Why do athletes practice before games, or students study before tests? In order to learn and comprehend the subject matter. No one can fully memorize one play in a single day, or grasp how to work with many formulas for multiple questions.

Rome was not built in a day, so why try to make artwork at such a rushed pace? Instead, an upcoming artist should use the techniques that they have, and add more to their artillery. That way they can get better and better at making their art the best.

Art is not something that one does, but it is something that one makes. They are the ones capable of painting every stroke on the page, shaping every corner of the structure, and shading every inch of the white space.

They are perfecting their own craft, shaping it into something of their own. Honing the skills of an artist by constant drawing and carving over and over again.

There are thousands of professors and doctors that are certified for their research in the art world. Some go above and beyond with their lessons and strategies on how to formulate certain arts. On the other hand, the others may be trying to do the bare minimum, and only teach their students what is required of them. Future artists that are learning under these teachers need to be aware of this, so that they do not fall victim to the disastrous consequences.

Although these young artists have the chance to change their art for the better. Instead of having the administrators breathing down their necks, they can choose to apply for a self-study course.

Self-study courses are courses where participants are permitted to pick a topic of interest, and report about their findings. This way those who are truly passionate about a specific genre of art, and dive deep into all the research and resources available to them.

However there is an ultimate downside to pursuing art in the schooling system, and that is due dates. Due dates seem self explanatory; however, they are actually the exact opposite. These dates can come across as scary to procrastinators, but can still easily affect all other art students.

They are demanding as they make the artist feel trapped inside a never changing desert with dunes of sand for miles. After all, the one making the art is only human, so they may feel overwhelmed by it all once the art slumps start to kick in.

Art slumps are when the artist is stuck in a writer block, but instead applies to all things art. When one makes an effort for their passion to come true, they hope that it will eventually pay off. However, that might not always be the case when it comes to art. Art can be a gamble of sorts, so when the artist faces an art slump, things might not match up the way they once did.

While not every artist has to go through the motions to become their greatest self, there are some that are in dire need of that harsh push. Sometimes a person can feel on top of the world, then feel like they fell in a ditch the next. Pursuing art can make one feel unsure of themselves, completely captivated by the pity feeling. So they fall in a cycle of gloom, a blue period even.

Although, this time of need does not render them useless, nor define them as a lazy lump. But instead makes them undergo a metamorphosis, going from the first stage to the next. Eventually they leave the horrendous spiral of confusion behind, in order to go make something new. Then use everything that they have learned along the way, by going after their unrelenting passion for art.
