Saint Sylvester

The Gregorian calendar date

Has opened up a propitious gate

That leads us to a much better fate

But it resulted in serious debate

That imbibing has led to a state

That might not be on the straight

We look for a more fulfilling conjugate

Of the uncertainty of our need to propagate

In a land that is much less than sedate

What we need is a proper translate

Of the scriptures that are an update

Of our version that returns to hate

And opens up a narrow wait

That ends up as a rebate

And falls on deaf ears of late
