Okedokey, step one! Basic shapes are needed for the base, but instead of just using sticks and circles, I generally just use a circle for the head and sketch from there. After the circle comes the snout(in other positions it might be easier to add other features of the head or just go straight to the neck first, but for profile I always do the muzzle before anything else). A cat's muzzle isn't quite as long as a wolf's, and it's more squarish. There's a bit of a slope for the forehead too, but not too much.

And then, neck.
