Speaker

3D printed stuff counts as art right? If it doesn't, let's just pretend it does.

Anyways, at my school, I'm in an engineering program. As of now, I am in second year engineering, meaning that I get to work with an engineering 3D modeling program called Solidworks (which, as of now, I'm working towards taking a test to get an associates degree for). So as practice for designing a real world part, we were issued a challenge to design a phone speaker, which we required to have printed out on one of the numerous 3D printers in the class. I just got mine off the printer today, so I decided I'd like to show y'all!

First off, here's an older version of the model on the computer (I updated it for the final product but didn't have time to take new pictures since technically we aren't supposed to use our phones for anything other than music in that class)

We were required to quickly draw up a fake phone and put it into an assembly with the other part (or parts in my case) so we could be sure the phone would fit. You know what I named the file for the fake phone? I called it...

...
A PHONEY!!!
Hahahahahaha
Yeah I'm hilarious. Seriously though that's the actual file name on the computer. It's literally called Phoney. I would show you if I could. Also the perspective on it looks a bit wonky since Solidworks isn't really designed to correctly perceive perspective.

Now, onto the actual thing

Without the phone-

^the stand isn't pushed in all the way in this picture and I bothers me (not enough to retake it though)

With the phone (taken with my iPad)-

^i wanted to have a song playing so why not just have some Be More Chill on

It came our really nicely though! I designed to be able to work in landscape too but the track for the landscape bit is all blocked with plastic from the supports (the 3D printer has to print thin supports in order to build overhanging parts of the piece) so the stand piece doesn't go in all the way and gets stuck if I try to shove it in. Hopefully I'll be able to fix that someday.

Anyways, I hope ya liked seeing something a little different from normal! My next project in that class is to design a sorta wooden decoration fidget toy using laser cut wood and gears. Once I finish that, I can put it up here if you guys would be interested in seeing. But yeah!
