Here's an explanation how he's insane,

When a certain 'someone' dies (you know who -Wolf_Wishes- ) or gets murdered by either nightmare, flowey, or anyone else, he turns well...insane pretty much and then he'll try to kill the murderer, and then soon he'll start killing everyone else....yeah...
