Btw they're both like six in this—
"What are you doing?" Nightmare blinked, looking over at his best friend for life.
"I'm making my mummy a card!" Cross said proudly, holding up his overly glittery mess of folded paper.
"You call that a card?" He scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest and rolling his eyes. "It looks like a mess."
The smol flinched, holding the gluey card close to his chest. "You meanie! Y-You're just jealous because your card would look..." Cross trailed off, thinking of the naughtiest word he knew. "BAD!"
Nightmare gasped, stepping back a bit. "Excuse me?!"
"Yeah!" Cross glared up at him, puffing his cheeks out. "You're just a bad meanie that can't draw!"
The taller hissed, poking the smaller in the chest and making him stumble backwards. "I can draw! Much better than you as well!"
Cross fell to the floor with a yelp, tears brimming in his shiny eyes. His bottom lip was trembling.
Nightmare crossed his arms over his chest and looked away, pretending not to care.
Tears started rolling down the smol's cheeks.
"Don't you dare go tell on me!" The small child threatened. "I'll rip your card up if you do!"
Cross whimpered, taking a large breath.
"Don't-–"
"MISS LAYLAAAAAA!"
"You snitch!" Nightmare cried, slapping a hand over Cross' mouth to silence him.
But alas, he was too late. A shadow loomed over them and they both craned their heads back to see the tall silhouette of their class teacher. Miss Layla.
"Nightmare? What are you doing with Cross?"
The smol glared up at her, not moving his hand from Cross' mouth. "Nothing!"
She raised a brow, crossing her arms over her chest. "Is that so? Let go of him then."
Nightmare huffed, glancing at Cross and shaking his head. "No."
She sighed, gently flicking Nightmare's skull before pushing his hand away and pulling Cross into her arms. "You two normally play so nice together, what's wrong?"
Immediately Cross started bawling, crying his little eyes out into her chest. "N-Nightmare was being a-a meanie!"
"How so?"
"H-He said my card was bad a-and threatened to rip it up!" He wailed, attracting the attention of quite a few other kids.
The teacher sighed, rubbing his back. "Well I'm sure he didn't mean it, did you Nightmare?" She looked down at his sternly.
"No..." He mumbled, scuffing the floor with his foot.
"Now apologise."
"Im sorry, Cross..." He glanced up at the crying smol, feeling like -as his mum would say- a very naughty boy.
The oreo sniffed, wiping his eyes on his sleeve. "You are...?"
"Yeah..."
The teacher sighed, complying as Cross motioned for her to set him down. "Please don't fight..."
Cross bit his lip softly, padding over to the depressed looking child. "It's okay Nighty, I forgive you."
Instantly Nightmare perked up, noticing that he'd used his nickname instead of his long and annoying one. "You do?"
The smol nodded, holding out his hand. "Best friends?"
Nightmare grinned. "Best friends."
They then proceeded to do their best friend handshake, giggling and smiling.
"There we go." The teacher smiled, patting both of their skulls. "I hate to see you two arguing, you're always so nice to each other."
"Yeah! I'm going to marry Cross when I grow up!" Nightmare said proudly and grabbing Cross' hand. It was as if the previous argument had been completely forgotten.
The smaller nodded, looking up at him admirably. He'd clearly forgotten about all the tears and crying.
She smiled. "That's cute, I think you'd be a great couple."
"Oh we'll be the best." Nightmare scoffed, holding his and Cross' hand in the air. "See! We're already holding hands!"
The teacher honestly had to hold herself back from laughing, covering her mouth with a hand. "Yes, I can tell you're both extremely serious. But for now, how about you both make cards for your mum's together to show how much you love them?"
"That's a great idea!" Cross squeaked, grabbing his glittery card from where it had been discarded on the floor previously. "Let's go Nighty!"
The two smol's laughed, stumbling over to the class' arts and crafts table to make what they called "two of the best Mother's Day cards in the world".
Miss Layla sighed, watching the two fondly as they scribbled away at the coloured paper with crayons before sticking foam animals all over it. Cross added even more glitter to his card, making it almost impossible to read any more.
Beside her, her co-worker James stepped by her side and watched the two. "Kids are cute, aren't they?"
"Yeah." She hummed. "Bless those two, they're so certain that they're going to get married."
"Maybe they will." James said, watching as the two smol's mum's walked through the doorway, here to collect them.
"Mummy! Mummy mummy mummy look what me and Nighty did!" Cross yelled, scrambling over to his mum as fast as he could with the sticky card in his hands.
"Nightmare and I." She corrected, quickly pulling the small bean up into her arms and gasping. "Wow! Look at that card! It's so pretty!"
Cross giggled happily, his face practically beaming with happiness.
Behind him, Nightmare shyly walked up to his mum, holding the card behind his back. "Hai mummy."
"Heya big boy." She pulled him up into her arms, smiling. "Have you made me a card as well?"
He nodded, shoving the slightly less sticky card into her chest. "I covered it with foam animals because I know you like them!"
"Oh how sweet." She laughed, rubbing the top of his skull.
He giggled a bit, smiling before he suddenly gasped and looked over at Cross, his eyes shining. "Hey Crossy! I made something for you!"
The black and white bean looked over at him in surprise. "You did? What is it?"
Nightmare reached out, grabbing the smol's hand and gently slipping something onto his finger.
Cross blinked rapidly, looking down at it. It was part of a pipe cleaner, twisted into a dodgy ring. "A ring?"
"Yeah! Look!" Nightmare held up his hand to show he had a similar one. "Now we really are married!"
The smol grinned widely, nodding. "Yeah! Married forever!"
Miss Layla smiled, turning back round to look after the rest of the kids. "Maybe they will get married."

"Hey Nighty!?" Cross called, twisting his golden wedding ring around his finger and staring at dusty photo album in his lap.
"What!?" He called back.
"When's my breakfast in bed going to be ready?!"
"It'll be ready, when it's ready your highness!"
Cross snickered, rolling his eyes and watching as Noah flicked the page on the album to a picture of his and Nightmare's fake wedding they'd had back when they were about six years old.
He could remember that day so clearly. The whole of their class had came to watch the two walk down their makeshift isle that was constructed by their darling teachers. He could remember their little pipe cleaner rings that Nightmare's brother had given them, and he remembered kissing his lover's cheek after their ridiculous made up vows had been said. God that was such a memory.
He sighed softly, tracing his fingers over the faded pictures.
"Are you okay mum?" Noah asked, looking up at him.
"Yes sweetheart, and please, call me dad."
"But Daddy said that because it's Mother's Day, you have to be called mummy for the whole day!" He whined, pressing against his side.
"Is that so?" Cross glared up at his husband, who had just walked into the room with Cross' breakfast on a tray.
"What have I done wrong now?" Nightmare asked, walking in and nudging the kids out of the way with his tentacles.
"Making them call me mum."
He grinned, sitting down next to him. "Well there's no point in us pampering you on Mother's Day if you're not using the appropriate pronouns."
Cross groaned, shaking his head before looking at his breakfast. It was piled with about five pancakes, dark smooth Nutella having been drizzled over it. By the side, seven plump strawberries were lined up cutely.
Drool was already building up in his mouth as he looked at them. "Those actually look really good!"
"Actually?" Nightmare raised a brow and passed him the plate, along with a fork. "Are you saying you doubted my cooking skills?"
"Maybe a little bit." Cross grinned at him, sticking out his tongue as he situated himself on his lover's lap.
Nightmare sighed, wrapping his arms around his waist and glancing at the photo album curiously. "I still have my pipe cleaner ring, you know that?"
"You do?" Cross looked at him in surprise, swallowing a lump of his delicious pancakes.
"Yup."
"You know I think I still have mine somewhere..." He said, frowning.
"We can tear the mansion up looking for it later." Nightmare murmured, kissing the back of his neck softly. "For now just enjoy my hard laboured breakfast, okay?"
Cross giggled, nodding. "Okay Nighty."
"Good boy. Oh and happy Mother's Day."
The kids nodded, smiling. "Happy Mother's Day!"
Cross looked away shyly, pressing hisnface into Nightmare's chest "Thanks guys..."
