Basically no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get the colours or patterns right on the centaur fusion.  So I'm either going to just redo the new design traditionally, or ill try a different species, like this chimera.  I think I might do the chimera, because from this sketch, I feel it would be a lot easier to get right colour-wise.

Here's a quick sketch,  does it look okay?
And with colouring, I find it far easier to do messy tonal rather than full on shade for everything, so it might not be refined.

If this works out, it'll be one of those "messy sketch" pieces which look real nice. 

Well, that's the plan at least.
