This was going to be an announcement but I started and couldn't stop
Virgil is fight or flight, right? But hear me out. What if he's just flight?
His anger towards the others does exist, but Logan feels emotions too and so does Roman, if they only stuck to their roles, Roman would be 100% egocentric and full of passion and romance, and Logan would never get a word in edgewise (not that he often does) because he wouldn't be able to muster the anger necessary to cause him to shout at anyone.
Virgil, under the same principle, only ever tells Thomas to put distance between himself and the thing scaring him. "Get rid of it, get rid of the phone now", "that settles it, I won't be approaching anyone this year", and more are all examples of Virgil making Thomas run away.
Not only this, but any time he is aggressive he's all bark and no bite, except for that one time he accidentally hit Thomas in the head with a rock but we know that was just intended to scare him.
He's only shown with a knife once and it was all for show, he's never shown to be actively violent, and he's never shown to be attacking with intent to harm, which is what the fight part of fight or flight is. He's never fighting in a way that would exhibit that part of the instinct. He only defends.
Addressing AA, both parts, can indicate better than most other episodes that Virgil is more flight than he is fight. He runs away, hides from the others and stops doing his job under the assumption that Thomas is better off without him. Then when he gets the others out, that's the equivalent of grabbing someone by the hand and dragging them away from the danger, not attacking the source of the danger. He gets them out, rather than trying to neutralise his room to save them.
Now, this could well be because of Thomas' personality as a whole, but we've seen Remus and Janus, both of them hold no hesitation of using physical means to do what they need to get done (Janus using the hook on Logan and Remus with both the morning star and the throwing star (an interesting theme I may review another time)). And sure, Virgil got a redemption arc, but what about before then? He was never shown with a fight instinct then. And we could go into how the series wasn't the most well developed before Virgil's arc came to an end, but it's clear that specific part of him never changed. He's a character whose bark is worse than his bite, through and through.
What could this mean?
Well, now two sides could fall parallel to this remaining side, Logan and Virgil, presumably as some kind of aggression based embodiment either way, or it could be the creativity whole, but either way, I'm interested to see how this plays out.
Any thoughts?
