I HAVE AN OPINION, HERE IT IS

SPOILER WARNING! The movie came out about 9-ish years ago, idk but some people might not have seen tangled. If you haven't, read this and have most of it spoiled, or watch it and come back.

Okay, so there's an animatic based on the song from Tangled called "Virgil knows best" (up top) and it is really good but I just think that some characters could have been different.

I AM NOT HATING! I am simply stating that I think some characters would be better in other roles. The malicious intent behind the lines of mother Gothel just don't fit Patton as a character.

With that said, who do I think should be...

1: Mother Gothel?
I KNOW Patton's eyes go yellow and that's clearly the universal sign of Deceit but let me clarify: I don't think it should be Deceit posing as Patton, I think it should just be Deceit. Think about it, Rapunzel is lied to and told that mother Gothel is her mother, and Rapunzel believes this like Roman believes that Deceit is honestly complimenting him (partially random example). Who else would be better than the only side who took on the role of Patton (or any other side, for that matter) - the only parental side?

2: Rapunzel?
Roman. He's the only one who is still fooled by Deceit, not to mention that Rapunzel is very creative and romantic and Roman represents exactly those things. Let's also mention that Rapunzel finds her crown (despite that she doesn't know it's hers) in Eugene's satchel and Roman is the side who would most likely own a crown.

3 Eugene?
Virgil. This one was actually the process of elimination but when I thought harder, it worked. If Deceit would want any side picked off, it would be Virgil - the one who can tell something is off with Patton in the "can lying be good?" video from the get-go. If mother Gothel would want anyone picked off, it's Eugene - the only living person who knows where the tower is aside from Rapunzel and herself. Not to mention that the crown is supposed to belong to the princess and who better to steal Roman's crown than the side who he gets along with least for most of the series? Then there was the fact that, at the end of the movie, Eugene tries to play off their marriage as "Rapunzel's a sap I wasn't responsible" and Virgil is the one who tried hardest to keep his reputation from crumbling. Also I hard-core ship princxiety, but I don't count that as a reason.

Okay so, who should Logan and Patton play?
The king and queen. It just seems right with Patton acting as an honest parental figure and Logan being the only other side who would be skilled enough to look after a child. Don't hate me, but if I had to assign each of them a singular one instead of leaving it open to interpretation, I would pin Logan as the queen because:

1: Patton is repeatedly called "dad" and given the paternal role
2: The king grew desperate to save the queen. Logan would want to save Patton but he wouldn't go looking for a miracle, he doesn't believe in them. Patton, on the other hand, would go to almost any lengths to save Logan.
3: In one scene in the movie, the queen is seen adjusting the king's... medallion? Necklace? Whatever it is, Patton isn't a stickler for appearances and couldn't give less of a darn but Logan is constantly adjusting his glasses or tie or something, he is constantly fixing to make himself appear as business-y as possible and the comfort intended behind the action is the kind of thing Logan would do, not Patton.
4: during earlier cuts of the film, the king was shown to have a more playful attitude than the queen.
5: at the end, just before the king and queen go onto the balcony, the queen looks to the king for affirmation. Logan would be terrified in that moment because he's literally about to see his child that he hasn't seen in 18 years and would look to the other person for affirmation.

The only thing I could come up with against it is this:
The queen hugs Rapunzel first. Logan isn't one for "icky human emotions" (his words, not mine) and wouldn't initiate a hug, but Patton sure as heck would. Then again, the queen does accept Eugene into the hug and Logan is very accepting towards Virgil while still respecting that there are boundaries that Virgil doesn't like crossed.

Rant over. I like the animatic but I think some characters should have been others. My only complaint.

Bye!
~Jay
