Broken

Kara's POV

I was lying on a medbay bed, recharging from the fight with Pestilence.

I heard Alex's intake of breath and her movement on the bed next to mine. "Oh my God... Are you okay?" She asked me with obvious concern.

"Yes, I'm just fine. Just a little weak. Are you okay?" I asked, glad to see her moving again.

"I'm alive." She said with a small smile. 'Rao. She's so pretty...' I shoved that thought into the back of my head and locked it away with all of the other inappropriate thoughts I've had about her. I smiled at her.

"Hey, nice to see you both up." J'onn started saying as he walked in. "You had us a little worried there." He finished and smiled.

"Wait a minute... Where's Winn?" Alex asked, sounding a little scared. I started to smile at her concern.

"Against my better judgement, he's back at work." J'onn told her.

"Oh, what a suck up." Alex replied. I stood up and moved towards Alex. "You have no idea how happy I am to see you healthy again." I pulled her into a hug. My heart started racing and I pulled away before she could hear it beat.

"Did we get her?" "Not yet." I started. "But, we'll keep trying." J'onn finished saying.

"I'll be downstairs." I told Alex and walked out.

I walked down the stairs and towards Imra. "We were so close." She said as I got to the balcony.

"There was no way of knowing Purity would show up... Or that she would make her stronger."

I started shaking my head. "You said I would fail... I should have listened to you."

"No, don't say that." Imra tried reassuring me. "I've always followed my instincts. But now, I... I don't know what to follow."

"I never came here to make you doubt who you are or what you believe." Imra started. "I was wrong to try to make you change." She continued. I stayed quiet and nodded as she spoke.

"I never told you what I saw on Fort Rozz, when Psi got into my head." She paused. "It was my sister."

"I didn't know you had-" Imra interupted me. "I don't... Not anymore... Because of the Blight. Her name was Preya. She was quiet and stuck to herself. But she always had my back. Then, one day she was gone."

"I'm so sorry." My heart clenched, I don't know what I would do without Alex.

"I saw you with Alex today, holding your sister's hand while she fought the same disease my sister did." She had a knowing look on her face.

I started feeling nervous. 'Rao. I hope she doesn't know, Alex can't know how I feel about her.'

"If I had just killed Pestilence the blight never would have happened. Preya would still be alive." She said sadly.

"I would probably do the same thing if Alex were gone." 'No. Scratch that, I definitely would.'

"No, you wouldn't. That's what makes you who you are." I stepped forward. "We're going to stop the Blight. We're gonna save your sister. Together..."

Days later

I landed in the DEO and started walking with J'onn and Alex. I just finished looking for the desert Worldkiller fortress.

"The fortress is gone, like it was never there. Stone turned to sand." I told them. "And Reign is gone, too, she's untraceable." Alex added. "You know, that eclipse ended as soon as the fortress was destroyed." J'onn told me as Winn walked up to us.

"We got rid of two out of the three Worldkillers. Like, that's a win." Winn told us. "And we'll find Sam, somehow." Alex told me.

"I know." I replied. My eyes roamed her body, I looked her in the eye, hopefully before she noticed me staring. "Hey, cool new suit!" My heart was pounding. 'Stop it! Stop thinking of her that way!' I mentally scolded myself.

She smiled. "Winn did me a solid." "Yes, upgrades." Winn replied and they fist bumped.

"Well, I'd been asking the Director of the DEO for one for years, but I just kept getting denied."

"Blame it on Congress, I don't write out budgets." J'onn said, smiling. "Besides, don't you miss your polo? It looked like it was sweat-wicking."

"I have a really cool new gun. Don't think it won't work on you." Alex said, leaning forward slightly. I let out a quiet laugh at that. "Don't shoot." J'onn said with his hands up. Alex smiled. She and J'onn walked away.

Before I left the DEO, I went to talk to Alex. "How are you holding up?" She asked me. "I'm fine, I'm more worried about you, Reign almost killed you."

I felt tears rolling down my face. "Oh, Kara." She cupped my face and wiped away my tears. "I don't know what I'd do if you died." She pulled me into a hug.

'I love you so much Alex. I need you in my life. Without you, I'd be broken, destroyed. You keep me grounded.' Is what I wanted to say. Instead, I just stayed silent.

She pulled away a few moments later. "How about we have a Sister's Night tonight?" My heart pounded at the thought of seeing her tonight, having her to myself.

"Sounds great!" I said, smiling. "Let me get changed, and I'll order food, then we can go." I followed her with my eyes as she walked into the changing room.

I looked away so I wouldn't be as tempted to look through the walls. I blushed even thinking about doing that.

'Stop thinking of her that way!' I scolded myself again. 'She doesn't want you like that. She only sees you as a sister'

2 Hours Later

Alex and I were watching some Netflix show. Well, more like Alex was watching it. I was thinking about Alex in that Rao forsaken suit.

'Why is Alex so distracting in that suit?' I heard her moving around. She paused the show.

"What is going on with you Kara? You've been acting strangely since Pestilence infected me." Alex asked, looking at me with concern in her eyes.

"Why would you ask that? Pfft, I'm fine." I grimaced internally. Alex raised an eyebrow at my awkwardness.

"Especially since you saw me in my new suit." She replied with a knowing smile. "I think I know what's wrong." I tensed, thinking of a way to deflect the problem.

"What?" I asked, trying to play dumb. Alex put her hand on mine. 'Rao, her hands are so soft.'

"You love me." Alex replies, turning to look at me better. "Of course I do, you're my... Sister."

Her brow raised again. "You hesitated there Kar... Why?" She asked me, looking me in the eye. I sighed, this was it, the moment of truth. I looked up at Alex.

"You're going to hate me." I told her. "No, I'd never hate you. Now, why'd you hesitate?" Alex pressed. I took a shaky breath.

"I've never wanted to be your sister..." Alex looked hurt. "How long have you felt like that?" Tears were running down her face. "Oh, Alex, that is not what I meant... I- I'm in love with you..."

She smiled sadly. "Kara, if you're doing this only to make me happy, don't. It'll only hurt me worse." I stared in shock at her. "I'd never do that Alex!"

I paused. "Because, for one, I love you too much. And, two, it sounded like you feel the same way towards me." I smiled at her. "I do. For the longest time, I hated myself for loving you like that."

She adjusted on the couch. She was leaning over me in seconds. She pressed her lips to mine.

They were softer than I ever imagined. The kiss started out slow and tender, and started speeding up and getting heated. We parted for seconds before kissing again. "Bed, now." Alex said when it started getting more physical. I lifted her off the couch and walked towards the bed.

The Next Morning

I was on my way back to my loft after grabbing some breakfast and coffee for Alex. Happy to finally be together with her.

I was on my floor to the loft when I heard Alex crying softly. I ran to the door and opened it. I walked in and set down the tray on the counter.

"Alex? What's wrong, why are you crying?" I asked when I saw her. "It's stupid really, I should've known you'd be back. But on some irrational level, I thought you weren't coming back this morning, that last night was a one time thing." Alex told me trying to hold back her tears.

"Alex, I'd never do that to you. I want to be with you, have kids with you. I want you." I told her firmly. "I've always wanted you."

I pulled her into another kiss. "Nothing will ever change that." She smiled at that. I felt content in that moment. I smiled back.

We were eating breakfast when I decided to speak. "You know,  when we went to Barry's Earth and I found out you slept with Sara, I was so jealous, so angry. So depressed when I thought we'd never be together. And now? Now, I feel so happy..."

I paused, I frowned thinking about Maggie. "When you Maggie left you, I wanted to kick her ass... Then I realized, what's the point? She's an idiot for leaving you and she will, eventually realize what she lost. And when she does, it'll be too late."

As if on cue, her phone chimed. It was a text from Maggie. "It's Maggie... She wants to talk to me." She said with a strange look in her eyes. "I'm coming with you." Alex only nodded.

Hours Later

Alex and I walked into the alien dive bar. Maggie greeted Alex and frowned when she saw me.

"Alex, this has nothing to do with Kara... Why is she here?" Maggie asked with derision. "Depending on what you want to talk about... It has everything to do with her."

Maggie scoffed. "It's always her, you are way too close to her..." Maggie shook her head, looking disgusted. "It's disturbing really... You guys are supposed to be sisters. Sisters... And you guys act like you're not."

She turned towards me, with a disdainful look. "And you. You are so much worse than Alex." She rolled her eyes.

"I mean, to have feelings for your foster sister? I am ashamed to know you. But, you do realize you're just a rebound? Right? When she realizes she doesn't love you anymore, she'll leave and you'll be heartbroken while she goes on with her life."

I felt tears start running down my face I sat in a booth and started sobbing. "Maggie! That is enough! She's done nothing to you to deserve this! I don't want to see you again." "You two are disgusting. What would Eliza say?" She stormed away.

"Kara, hey, baby, look at me." Alex tried to get me to look at her by grabbing my shoulder. "She's right Alex, I'm nothing more than a rebound. Eventually, you'll realize that you don't want me and just like that, you'll leave me. No warning, just gone." I say between sobs. She lets go of me.

"How could you ever think I'd do that to you?" She asked, shocked. "She's right Alex, we are sisters, and we act like we're not." "Kar-" "No Alex... I think you should just leave." Alex started crying and walked out. I felt broken as she left. I just sat there, sobbing.

My heart throbbed as I realized that this was all my fault. Alex left because of me. I caused all of this. I should've kept quiet about my feelings for Alex. She hates me and I can't blame her.

I have nothing left to fight for. If Reign killed me, I wouldn't care.
