Nightmare
Third Person POV:
In this distorted reality, Batman finds himself stuck into a surreal nightmare, a world where the very embodiment of fear, Scarecrow, manifests as a colossal and nightmarish figure. The giant specter of Scarecrow looms ominously, a relentless force that hunts Batman through the distorted landscapes of his tormented psyche
The environment shifts with every step, morphing into grotesque shapes and mirroring the depths of Batman's fears. The air is thick with a hallucinogenic toxin, Crane's signature, intensifying the feeling of disorientation and dread
Y/N: Alfred? Alfred, are you there?
He tries calling for Alfred, but no one answers him
Seeing that he is now alone, Y/N needs to confront Scarecrow and try to escape whatever this place is
Scarecrow: Where are you, little Bat?
(Played by Matthew Gray Gubler...got this from pinterest BTW)
The distorted reality pulses with a malevolent energy as Y/N dashes to cover between Scarecrow's scans, avoiding his gaze
Reaching the top of the wall, Y/N pauses, clinging to the edge and waiting for Scarecrow's gaze to pass. The distorted reality becomes a challenging labyrinth of fear and uncertainty, and Y/N must rely on his agility, timing, and wisdom to outclass the monstrous entity that haunts his every move
Y/N: Deep breaths...it's not real.
Scarecrow: You're in my realm now! Everything is as real as I choose it to be!
Y/N inhales deeply and arrives at the top of a tower with the Bat-Signal on it
He then activates it, shining its beam of light on Scarecrow, defeating him in the process and for the time being
After that, Y/N finds himself lying on the hallway's floor with Barbara on his ear
Next to him was a guard's body, leaned against the wall just like Gordon's
Batman then puts two and two together and assumes that Gordon's death was just an effect of Scarecrow's fear toxin
Barbara: Can you hear me? Y/N! What's going on?
Y/N: Oracle...I'm okay...
His voice, though shaky, reassures Barbara of his well-being
Alfred: Sir...we lost contact with you for a moment there.
Y/N: I'm fine, Alfred.
Barbara: Have you found my dad?
Y/N: Not yet. I had a little run in with Scarecrow, slowed me down. I'll get back to you in a bit.
He then hears Joker's voice coming from the asylum's speakers
Joker: Are you lost, Bats? Having trouble figuring out what's real and what's a figment of your twisted little mind? Same here. Just roll with it, Bats. It gets way easier when you give in.
...
Batman walks a little more and finds himself in the experimental chamber of the asylum. Where Gordon was being held hostage by Harley
He attemps a takedown from above, breaking the chamber's glass to take down Harley
Harley: Y'know...your hair is starting to get a little gray. Maybe you sh-
Batman incapacitates Harley Quinn and looks at Gordon
Gordon: Huh...you took longer than I thought
He unties the commissioner
Y/N: Joker's out of control. He's trying to prove something...I'm not sure if I can stop him this time.
Gordon: You'll do it. Like you always do. But listen...we're not alone. He's got something down there. I don't know what it is.
Joker: What a blabbermouth! Spoiling the surprise...
Y/N: Be quiet...
Joker: Oh! Am I getting to you? Am I? Good! You're going to love this next bit...
Gordon and Batman go down to another medical facility. This one with a weird fog covering their sight
Gordon: It wants Dr. Young's log-in.
Y/N: Never mind that. Get behind me...now!
Gordon looks up and sees a familiar face...
Bane, once a hulking force powered by venom, now reduced to a weakened and skinny state. The venom has been drained from his body, leaving him a shell of his former self
Bane: Cut me down...
Bane's weakened voice echoes through the chamber, a mere whisper of the once powerful and menacing force he used to be
Y/N: Who did this to you?
Bane: Dr. Young...the bruja. She drained the venom from my blood. Must...stop...her.
The revelation puts Dr. Young in the center of the disturbing experiments that have led to Bane's weakened state. The urgency in Bane's cries for help underscores the gravity of the situation, hinting at Dr. Young's potentially sinister role within the asylum's twisted operations
Joker then appears on one of the monitors
Joker: Sorry, Has-Bane. The good doctor won't be a problem much longer. How do you like my puppet, Bats? What do you say we cut him down?
He presses a button, making Bane scream and get bigger, fueling him with venom and transforming him back into his original hulking, menacing form
Y/N: Gordon...RUN!
Bane was finally free, and was charging like a raging bull towards Batman
Bane, fueled by the potent venom, grabs and hurls the Dark Knight with strength, making Batman crash violently against the wall of the boiler room
Bane continues charging towards Batman, who evades all of his attacks, making the big man crash into the walls of the boiler room
Bane: Stop dodging!
Eventually, the room starts collapsing around them
Batman then uses his grappling hook to escape the place
Out of the room, he feels a hand on his shoulder. It was Gordon
Gordon: Batman, you okay?
Y/N: I'm fine, Jim. Where's Quinn?
Gordon: Gone! Must've escaped while Bane was tossing you around
Y/N: We need to get you off the island.
Gordon: I'm not a rookie. I can handle mysel-
Gordon gets cut off by Bane crashing through a wall behind them, knocking him and Batman down
Bane then grabs Batman by the shoulders again, making him unable to move
Bane: I will break you, Batman. Then, the bruja.
Y/N: No, Bane. This time I break you!
Batman presses a button on his utility belt, calling in the Batmobile remotely and running over Bane, who falls into the Hudson River
After defeating Bane, Batman and Gordon head towards a boat, ready to take him back to Manhattan
Y/N: The radio claims Joker has planted bombs all over the city. You're needed there.
Gordon: Bane called Dr. Young bruja. What does that mean?
Y/N: It's Spanish...for witch.
Gordon leaves the island and Batman turns around and contacts Oracle
Y/N: Oracle, you there?
Barbara: Always here, boss.
Y/N: Pull up all you can find on one Dr. Young. I'll go through anything you find once I get to the cave.
Barbara: Hold on. You got a Batcave on Arkham Island?
Y/N: I built it when they were reopening the asylum. It's best to be prepared for situations like these.
Barbara: How'd you manage to keep this a secret?
Y/N: It's me, remember?
Barbara: So, let me get this straight. You think that Dr. Young has been experimenting with Venom, the same chemical that turns Bane into that wild animal?
Y/N: Yes, and I'm worried. He seemed more powerful than usual and Joker wants the Venom. That means trouble. I'm headed to Dead Man's Point in Arkham North. I'll contact you once I'm in the Batcave. You should go to the main one below the manor. The computer there can be of assistance when you're researching about Dr. Young.
Barbara: I'm headed there, Batman.
Oracle hangs up and heads to the Batcave below Wayne Manor
Wayne Manor, Westchester County
A couple of minutes later, Barbara arrives at the main Batcave on her bike
Dick, who was doing some stunts on the cave's athletic bar, sees Barbara removing her helmet and falls down due to a distraction...also combined with the fact that Dick didn't expect to see his crush tonight
Dick: Huh? WHOA!
Barbara laughs and approaches him
Barbara: Did I throw you off balance?
Dick: What....what are you doing here?
Alfred: Master Wayne called Ms. Gordon over so she could do some "computer magic".
Barbara: Uhh...have we met?
Alfred: Certainly not. Alfred Pennyworth, at your service.
Kate then comes down the elevator with Lucky after saying her goodbyes to Kamala
Kate: Oh hello...you must be Barbara. Dick talks about you all the time
Dick feels his face get as red as his suit
Dick: Kate!
Kate, in response, bursts into laughter at the reaction of her foster son
Barbara: Okay, let's see what we got here...
Barbara starts doing her computer magic to find information about Dr. Young
...
Back at Arkham Island...
Batman finally arrives at the Island's Batcave in Dead Man's Point and calls Oracle
Y/N: I'm here. What do you got?
Barbara: Dr. Young was heading up a project. It was big. Lots of external funding. I'm sending you the last notes she filed. I can't make any sense of it. What does it mean?
Barbara sends some files over to the computer at Arkham Island
Y/N: Looks like she was experimenting on the Arkham patients. This new chemical barely resembles the original Venom compound. There are a number of changes that appear to amplify the strength of the drug. Multiple references to a TITAN formula. Even a small amount could trigger a Venom-like transformation in the host, eliminating the need for the storage tank Bane uses.
He then notices something was off
Y/N: Hang on...these notes aren't complete. The formula is missing! That must be the secret Dr. Young is hiding. If Joker gets his hands on this...he could create an army of a thousand Banes. I'm going after her. Only way to the mansion is via the catacombs.
Batman then leaves the Batcave and goes on to find Dr. Young
In the sewers, Barbara contacts Batman about the doctor
Barbara: I've been digging deeper into Dr. Young. According to her bank records, there have been multiple payments by one Jack White...isn't that the guy from The White Stripes?
Y/N: No, that's one of Joker's oldest aliases. Hmm...so Joker pays Dr. Young to create his army of super soldiers and suddenly stops? Doesn't make sense.
Barbara: Huh...not really. The payments to Dr. Young's account didn't stop randomly. They were declined. She put a block on her account.
Y/N: Sounds like she had a change of heart.
Batman starts putting the pieces together
Y/N: So Dr. Young finds out about Joker's secret payments and blocks her own account. Then, Joker decided he would get himself back to Arkham...and create the army himself.
Barbara: And that's not all. I managed to hack into her emails. There's a letter of resignation and an email from Joker...well, Jack White. And it's a long thread. She's begging to stop the experiment. Says it's too dangerous. He didn't listen and sent death threats to her family, a couple of bad jokes...and a picture of a dead baby!
Eventually, Batman arrives at the Mansion's main hall and Joker has a little message for the escaped inmates
Joker: Joker here with a little update for you all. We have Dr. Young. Bad news is she's not talking. Our good doctor hid a document somewhere in the mansion. And I want it found!
Batman sees some of Joker's goons on the floor and decides to fight them all
Y/N: Ten inmates. This is going to be fun.
He glides down using his cape and attacks the escaped convicts
He knocks two inmates doing this maneuver and quickly gets up
After that, a goon tries to attack him with a knife, but Y/N dodges it and slams the thug on the ground
Watching some of Joker's men pick up some guns, Y/N grabs his batarangs and starts throwing them on the inmates
They all get knocked out, being no match to Batman's expertise in martial arts
Seeing that the dust had settled, Officer Cash comes over to Batman
A bullet had grazed his left arm, but he looked okay
Cash: Batman...oh thank God. Boles got crazy. He...he kidnapped Gordon and shot me! Then, the next thing I know, I find him strapped to a gurney, looking like this...
He shows a picture of a deceased Officer Boles to Batman
Y/N: Joker must've double crossed him. Where's Dr. Young?
Cash: I told her to run. These guys came in looking for her. I told her to go to her office and hide.
Y/N: Does she keep her records there?
Cash: I guess. She was pretty desperate to get in there. Take the North Corridor. You'll get there quickly.
Batman nods and runs towards Dr. Young's office
There, he finds that the place was a complete mess. Someone must've got there before the doctor
But did they really get what they were looking for?
Batman activates his detective vision and locates a secret vault on the wall
Using his explosive gel, he breaches the vault and retrieves the formula
Y/N: Oracle, I've found Dr. Young's formula.
He sets fire to the paper
Barbara: Great! So does that mean you've stopped Joker?
Y/N: It's never this simple with him.
After saying this, Joker talks on the speakers
Joker: What's that you got there, Bats? No! Not the formula! What am I going to do? Who can help me now?
His voice was filled with sarcasm
Joker: What's that? How about our old friend Zsasz? Hmmm...I did bump into him on the way back from the Gardens, where no doubt he was acting out some twisted fantasy. Maybe he could get her talking? I think he probably can! Great plan, Bats.
Zsasz was on the loose...again
And he was now holding Dr. Young hostage
Y/N walks through the giant hallways in the Arkham mansion in order to find Dr. Young
But this time, he feels something weird
It was...raining? Inside the mansion?
He then hears some familiar voices
???: Hold it there, lady!
Thomas: Please...there's no need for this.
???: Stay where you are. I'll shoot!
Thomas: I'll give you whatever you want.
BANG!
Martha: Oh god! Tom...TOM!
Young Y/N: Dad!
???: Be quiet, lady. Just...just shut up and give me those pearls!
Y/N feels the intensity of the traumatic moment intensifying as he navigates through the illusion. The echoes of his parents' final moments surround him, and the pain feels as real as ever
Martha: Stay away from me! Run, Y/N-
BANG!
Young Y/N: Mommy!
Y/N now found himself in the same nightmare realm from earlier, trying to escape the gigantic Scarecrow figure and his gaze
Batman, utilizing the environment to his advantage, takes cover against the walls to evade the gaze of the gigantic Scarecrow figure. Every move is calculated, and he maneuvers skillfully, staying one step ahead to avoid being caught in this nightmare realm
Reaching the highest point available, Batman finds an opportunity. With precision, he points the Bat-Signal towards Scarecrow, unleashing its powerful beam of light upon the monstrous entity
Back to the real world, Batman found himself outside the Warden's office, where Zsasz was holding Dr. Young captive
Joker: Oh good, you're back. I've been waiting for you, listening to Zsasz make the good doctor scream while you played around in Scarecrow's world.
Ignoring Joker, he gets in the Warden's office, where he sees Zsasz holding Dr. Young with a knife to her neck
Zsasz: Stay where you are, Batman! And listen carefully.
Dr. Young: Help...somebody help me!
Zsasz: Come any closer and I'll paint the room crimson with her blood.
Y/N: I'm not in the mood tonight, Zsasz...if you kill her, there will be nothing standing between you and me. If she dies...I'll make sure the only thing you eat is prison soup...because I'll knock all of your teeth out.
Joker: Just kill her...she's useless to me now.
Before he could react, Batman's grappling gun whizzes through the air, anchoring itself to the brick wall behind. With a forceful yank, a brick gets out from its place, striking Zsasz squarely on the back of his head
With Zsasz down, Dr. Young punches his ches while crying
Dr. Young: You monster...you evil, EVIL monster!
Y/N: He's not going anywhere. You can stop now
Dr. Young: I'm...I'm so sorry.
Y/N helps her to get up
Y/N: I saw Bane.
Dr. Young: I know...Joker threatened me. I wanted to stop the experiment. I even tried giving him his money back.
Y/N: Joker doesn't take no for an answer.
Dr. Young: He wants an army. A horrible, twisted to destroy New York. But he couldn't do it without the formula. I his it, but...
Y/N: So now he has Venom and your formula.
Dr. Young: He's got gallons of this stuff. There's a lab...hidden in the Gardens. It's locked off, but the security codes for the entire island are in the Warden's safe.
She walks up to the Warden's safe in his office
Y/N: What else is Joker planning?
Dr. Young: How should I know? You think anything he says makes sense?
She opens the safe
Dr. Young: He's insane....Oh my God!
Y/N: GET OUT OF THE WAY-
To be continued...
