I'll Never Let You Win

Third Person POV:

A news channel helicopter hovers over Arkham Island as Jack Ryder, the intrepid reporter, begins his live broadcast, his voice echoing over the chaos unfolding below

Ryder: Arkham Island remains under lockdown, its staff at the mercy of the rampaging inmates. Just ten minutes ago, we received this taped message:

Joker: Greetings, New York! Joker here. Arkham is mine. Soon, I'll unleash madness untold onto the streets of your precious city. But first, direct your eyes to the rooftops and witness the final destruction of your dear Dark Knight!

The camera captures a harrowing scene on top of the Arkham Asylum's rooftop, where a Titan-ized version of the Joker looms menacingly over Batman, his monstrous form a grotesque parody of the once-human clown prince of crime.

With an inhuman strength fueled by the potent Titan serum coursing through his veins, the Joker grabs Batman in a vice-like grip, his fingers digging into the Dark Knight's armor with an audible creak.

Batman struggles against the overwhelming force of his adversary, his cape billowing in the wind as he fights to break free from the Joker's grasp

Joker: Come on! Change! Get crazy! It's the only way to beat me! You know you want to...

Y/N: Never!

Y/N injects himself with the antidote

Joker: You wasted the antidote on yourself? Now THAT'S funny!

Joker's laughter fills the air, his manic grin stretching across his face as he revels in the chaos of their confrontation. But Batman remains focused and determined, his mind clear and his resolve unshaken by the Joker's taunts

Batman evades each blow with practiced precision, his movements fluid and controlled despite the chaotic frenzy unfolding around him

As the live broadcast of the Joker's showdown with Batman unfolds on screens across New York, viewers are gripped by a mix of fear, fascination, and morbid curiosity. Crowds gather in homes, bars, and public places, eyes glued to the unfolding spectacle as the fate of the Dark Knight hangs in the balance

...

Meanwhile...

Midtown Manhattan

Entering his modest apartment, Spider-Man sheds his mask, revealing the face of Peter Parker beneath. His eyes scan the room, seeking a moment of respite from the constant chaos of his double life

Turning on the TV, Peter's heart skips a beat as he sees the live broadcast of Batman locked in a desperate struggle with the Joker. The tension in the air is palpable, the stakes higher than ever before. For a moment, time seems to stand still as Peter watches the screen, his mind racing with a mix of concern and curiosity

New Avengers Compound, Upstate New York

The tension in the room is palpable as the New Avengers observe the struggle unfold on the screen, each member silently processing the implications of Batman's battle

For Sam Wilson, Captain America, the sight of another hero facing such formidable odds stirs a sense of solidarity and respect. He knows what it's like to stand against overwhelming adversity, to fight for what's right even when the odds are stacked against you

Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel, watches with a mixture of concern and admiration. She sees in Batman a fellow warrior, someone who refuses to back down in the face of danger, even when the world seems to be against him

Carol: Can't we help him? I'm sure we'd handle it smoothly.

Yelena: He took on almost his whole rogues gallery in less than seven hours. He'll be fine. Besides...if he needed help, he would have asked for it.

Scott Lang, the Ant-Man then adds something to the conversation

Scott: Yeah, but that Joker guy...he's not exactly playing fair.

Kamar-Taj, Kathmandu, Nepal

America watches intently as the transmission unfolds on her phone screen. She's spent months honing her abilities under the guidance of Doctor Strange and Wong, learning to harness the full extent of her powers. As she watches Batman facing off against the Joker, she can't help but feel a sense of admiration for the Caped Crusader's bravery and determination

...

As the battle between Batman and the Titan-infused Joker rages on, the two adversaries engage in a brutal and intense struggle. With every punch, kick, and dodge, the stakes grow higher, each combatant pushing themselves to their limits

Batman's combat prowess and tactical genius are put to the test as he evades the Joker's frenzied attacks, his every move calculated and precise. Despite the overwhelming odds stacked against him, he refuses to give in, his determination unwavering in the face of chaos and destruction

Joker: I can take it. I can take anything you throw at me, Bats! You can't beat me. I'm actually going to win!

As Joker says this, Y/N sprays some of his explosive gel on his knuckles

Joker: Ready for the next round?

Y/N: Always...

Joker: WHAT!?

Y/N: I'll never let you win...never!

As Batman's fist connects with the Joker's jaw, the explosive gel ignites with a sudden burst of force, sending shockwaves rippling through the air

Despite the pain, Batman stands firm, his gaze fixed on the fallen form of the Joker. As the smoke clears, the Joker lies defeated, his manic laughter silenced at last.

Commissioner Gordon holds his phone to his ear, relieved to hear his daughter's voice on the other end. The NYPD was taking control of the asylum

Barbara: Dad! Thank God. I was worried sick.

Gordon: It's alright, Barbara. The NYPD finally has the control of the asylum.

Gordon: Doctors are treating the injured, but it looks like it'll take some time. All super criminals are back in custody. Quite a mess in there. And the Venom-enchanced inmates are returning to normal. Though, for some, the process can be quite painful.

Barbara: And dad...how are you doing?

Gordon: I'll survive. See you tonight, Barbara.

He hangs up as he sees Batman and Kate walking over to him

Kate reaches out and places a comforting hand on Batman's injured arm, offering silent support

Gordon: Shame about your car. Can I give you guys a ride?

Kate: Thank you, commissioner. But we have one on the way.

Just as Kate says that, the Batwing hovers over them, its sleek black form blending with the night sky. With a low hum, the Batwing lifts off the ground, disappearing into the darkness as it carries its passengers to their next destination

...

Moments later, the Batwing descends smoothly into the underground hangar of the Batcave, its engines echoing softly against the cavernous walls. Batman and Kate step out, the former still nursing his injured arm. As they make their way through the dimly lit expanse of the cave, the familiar sights and sounds of Batman's sanctuary surround them.

Kate: You should get that arm looked at.

Y/N: I'll get Alfred to take a look

Alfred then attends to Y/N's injured arm with precision and care in the well-equipped medbay of the Batcave. Alfred's skilled hands deftly patch up Y/N's injured arm, applying antiseptic and bandages with practiced precision. His movements are steady and sure, a testament to years of experience

Alfred: It appears to be a superficial injury, Master Wayne. Your suit did its job on protecting you...sort of.

Barbara comes over to them, putting on her jacket and holding her motorcycle helmet, getting ready to leave

Barbara: Hey...uh...I'm gonna go home now. My dad's expecting me and I got school tomorrow, so...yeah.

Y/N: Of course, Barbara. Thank you for all your help tonight

Barbara: Alright. See you guys. Bye Dick!

Dick: See you tomorrow, Babs.

With Barbara safe and on her way home, and the night's chaos subdued, they can now focus on resting, but staying vigilant

Kate raises an eyebrow

Kate: Babs now, huh?

Y/N smiles at Kate's observation, knowing that Dick's affection for Barbara was no secret to anyone who knew them well

In the bedroom, Y/N and Kate share a comfortable silence, the events of the night still fresh in their minds. Yet, there's a sense of relief knowing that they've emerged victorious once again.

Y/N: It's been quite a night.

Kate nods, a weary yet content smile on her face as she walks beside him.

Kate: That it has. But we made it through together, as always.

Y/N: I shouldn't have told you to stay home. You did well disobeying me. But what will happen if one day, Rikers, Arkham and The Raft all have a riot like the one tonight? I can't take them all, Kate. We need a team of our own

Kate: I know, Y/N. And you're right. We can't do this alone, especially when the threats keep getting bigger. Maybe it's time we consider building that team Kamala talked about. We can't be everywhere at once, but with the right people by our side, we can make a real difference.

Y/N: Yeah...you're right. We'll start working on it tomorrow

...

The next day, Y/N and Kate study old files from S.H.I.E.L.D. in the Batcomputer to find special individuals

Kate: What about...this one? Dates back to the Cold War. Something about a group of special individuals stopping the Cuban Missile Crisis. Funny...says they reside here in Westchester.

Y/N: Where?

Kate: The Xavier School For Gifted Youngsters.

Y/N: Right...let's pay them a visit.

After making a call to schedule a visit, Y/N and Kate make preparations for their visit to the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, ensuring they have all the necessary information and resources for their meeting with Professor Xavier

Upon arriving at the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, Y/N and Kate are greeted by the serene atmosphere of the sprawling estate. Surrounded by lush greenery and imposing architecture, the school emanates an aura of mystery and intrigue

In the lobby, Y/N and Kate's eyes fall upon Professor Charles Xavier, seated in his wheelchair. He exudes an air of wisdom and calm authority, his presence commanding respect from all who encounter him.

Y/N: Professor Xavier? Y/N Wayne, we spoke on the phone

Xavier: Ah, welcome. I've been expecting you.

(Played by Ralph Fiennes)

His voice is warm and welcoming, tinged with a hint of intrigue.

Xavier: Please, come in. Let's discuss what brings you to our humble abode

Charles leads Y/N and Kate to his study, a room filled with shelves of books, various artifacts, and a large wooden desk. The ambiance is serene, with soft lighting casting a warm glow over the space.

Xavier: Please, make yourselves comfortable.

He gestures towards a pair of plush armchairs facing his desk, inviting them to take a seat

Y/N: Professor, what do you know about the Cuban Missile Crisis?

Y/N sits down and Charles takes a quick peak inside his mind, now knowing what they were really after and now knowing who the real Y/N was

Xavier: Ah, the Cuban Missile Crisis. A pivotal moment in history, indeed. It was a tense standoff between the United States and the Soviet Union, bringing the world to the brink of nuclear war. However, there's more to the story than what's commonly known.

He pauses, clasping his hands together on the desk before continuing.

Xavier: You see, during that time, a group of individuals with extraordinary abilities played a significant role in diffusing the situation. They possessed powers beyond those of ordinary humans, and their efforts helped to prevent catastrophe.

Y/N leans forward, his interest piqued by Xavier's words.

Y/N: And where do you fit into all of this?

Xavier offers a reassuring smile, his demeanor calm and composed.

Xavier: My role, you might say, was that of a mentor and guide to these remarkable individuals. I provided them with a safe haven here. Train them so they could become better versions of themselves

As Y/N hears Charles Xavier's voice resonate within his mind, he realizes the depth of Xavier's abilities. It's a moment of revelation, understanding that Xavier possesses telepathic powers, allowing him to communicate directly with others through thought alone

Y/N: So...you read minds.

Xavier: Among other things. But yes, I'm a telepath...

As Professor Xavier guides Y/N and Kate through the halls of his school, he showcases the diverse array of talents and abilities possessed by the students who call Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters their home. They witness students demonstrating extraordinary powers, from telekinesis to energy manipulation, each one honing their skills under Xavier's guidance.

Xavier: Here at the school, we strive to nurture the potential within each of our students, helping them to understand and control their unique gifts

They come across a young man demonstrating his abilities with precision and control. With a focused gaze, he directs beams of intense energy from his eyes, striking targets with pinpoint accuracy

Xavier: This is Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops. His mutation grants him the ability to emit powerful beams from his eyes. With proper training and discipline, he has learned to control his powers, using them for the greater good

(Played by Scott Eastwood)

Y/N: How have so many mutants stayed a secret?

Xavier: Mutants have existed throughout history, but their presence has often been concealed from the wider world. Many mutants possess abilities that are not immediately visible or easily detectable, allowing them to blend in with society. Additionally, some mutants have chosen to keep their abilities hidden, fearing discrimination or persecution if their true nature were revealed

Kate: Yeah, but...other superpowered people still exist. Why be afraid of showing them?

Xavier: Some of them weren't born with these...gifts, Miss Bishop. And let's just say that some people can be very...prejudiced towards a mutation. Take Wanda Maximoff, for example...

Y/N and Kate absorb Xavier's words, realizing the complex challenges faced by mutants in a world that often fears what it does not understand

After that, Y/N and Kate come across a young woman's demonstration of telekinesis with a mix of curiosity and fascination. The redhead concentrates intently, her eyes narrowed in concentration as she effortlessly manipulates various objects with her mind, lifting them into the air and moving them around the room with precision

Kate: That's incredible

Xavier: That is Jean Grey, one of our most gifted students.

(Played by Madeline Petsch)

Jean acknowledges them with a nod, her focus remaining on the objects she's manipulating

After that, the Professor guides them to an underground facility

Xavier: You're not the only one with an underground lair, Mr. Wayne

Y/N: Stop looking into my mind, Professor.

Y/N and Kate take in the sight of the high-tech training equipment and spacious training rooms. They see mutants of all ages engaged in various training exercises, each one showcasing their unique powers and skills

As they take a look at the facility, a white-haired black woman sporting a very stylish mohawk and her young son pass by Y/N, Kate, and Xavier, they exchange polite nods of acknowledgment. The woman's presence carries an air of confidence and authority, while the boy looks up at her with a mixture of admiration and trust

Ororo: Good morning, Professor.

(Played by Janelle Monáe)

Xavier: Good morning, Ororo. These are Katherine and Y/N. Our visitors. Y/N, Kate, meet one of our teachers, Ororo Munroe, or as we like to call her...Storm.

Ororo: Pleasure to meet you. Oh, and this is Azari...

(Played by Nadji Jeter)

Azari: Hey there

Y/N: Nice to meet you, Azari

Exploring more of Xavier's training center, Y/N and Kate peer into one of the training rooms, their attention immediately drawn to the sight of a man with a muscular build, standing at around 5'8", and sporting metal claws coming from his knuckles. He moves with a grace and agility that belies his formidable appearance, his movements fluid and precise as he engages in combat training

Xavier: Ah, that's Logan, also known as Wolverine. He's one of our most skilled combatants, with enhanced physical abilities and an accelerated healing factor

(Played by Taron Egerton)

Y/N: Professor...we came here because-

Xavier: You want to assemble a team. The Avengers are going through a rebuild, more villains appear every single time. And now that you know what I'm capable of, you want my help to locate new individuals to be part of your team.

Y/N and Kate exchange a glance, reassured by Xavier's words

Y/N: We need all the help we can get. The threats we face are growing more dangerous by the day. I used to think that I could take on dozens of opponents. But a wise man once told me that a man's real strength doesn't come from his brawn, but his allies

The Professor smiles

Xavier: Allow me to help you

Charles then takes them to a secret room, one where only a platform stands with a monitor at the end

Xavier: Welcome to Cerebro.

Y/N and Kate gaze in awe at the imposing structure of Cerebro, its intricate design hinting at the immense power it holds within. They exchange glances, both understanding the significance of this moment and the potential it represents for their mission.

Y/N: This is impressive.

Xavier: Indeed, Cerebro is a remarkable tool. With its help, we can locate individuals with extraordinary abilities, those who may be instrumental in our efforts to combat the rising threats we face.

Kate: How does it work?

Xavier: Well, Cerebro amplifies and enhances my telepathic abilities, allowing me to scan vast distances and pinpoint the unique signatures of mutants and other individuals.

With that being said, the Professor puts on the Cerebro's helmet and starts looking for the individuals that can be a part of Y/N's newest team

Xavier: Let's get to work...
