The Mayor: Part 1

Oliver and I shoot at the gangbangers, who keep on shooting at us with their guns.

And I don't mean your typical street guns, I mean military grade guns!

I shoot at a gangbangers with a trick arrow so now he hangs upside down with a rope around his ankles.

Finally, the last few guys drop their guns and run away from us.

I walk to the upside down guy and stand beside him. "Where are you getting the guns?" I ask him, my voice box on.

"You gonna kill me?" he asks me, not answering my question. "Get it over with."

"I'm not gonna kill you." I say, still not looking at him, then I quickly bring my left elbow, hard, in the middle of his eyebrows, knocking him out.

"Doesn't mean I have to listen to you."

I walk to Oliver, who picks up one of the guns one of the gangbangers dropped. "Dig. We just took out two more gangbangers." he says into his com link.

"And they were armed with fully automatic M4A1 assault rifles." I add, speaking into mine.

"M4A1s are military grade weapons." Dig says on the other side. "Stolen, most likely."

"Stolen from where?" Oliver asks.

"We can look into that after your party." Dig says.

Wait, what?! PARTY!!

"What party?" Oliver asks.

I literally facepalmed myself. "Ollie, I totally forgot about your investor party for QC!"

"Wait, that's tonight?!"

"No, it's next week. YES, IT'S TONIGHT!!!!" I shout the last part.

We run to on our bikes and ride to Verdant to get party clothes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Half an hour later, we walk through the doors of Oliver's manson.
Oliver's wearing a dark gray tux, and looks handsome as hell. As usual.
Meanwhile, I'm wearing a deep velvet red cocktail dress that goes to right above my knees. My naturally curly hair is half up half down. I'm also wearing silver stilettos.
"They're here." Felicity says to (ugh) Isabel Rochev when we finally got to the main room.
"Sorry we're late." I say, fake smile on. "Traffic is terrible tonight."
She ignores me and just looks at Oliver. "This party is to attract investors for your failing company. Being fashionably late may do well in the club circuit, but it does not inspire confidence here in Wall Street. Is that blood on your face?"
"Hmm?" Oliver groans in confusion.
I look at his face and see that there IS blood on his face, on the bottom of his left cheek.
Crap!!!
I reach over, put my hands on either side of his face, and brush the blood off.
"Don't worry, it's not his blood." Felicity says, I glare at her and she quickly recovers. "I mean, of course it's his blood. Why would he have somebody else's blood on his face?"
I decide to go along with it as I pretend to brush more blood off his face. "Who taught you to shave, mister?" I ask, jokingly, causing Oliver to smile.
Isabel walks away and Felicity walks right in front of us. "What kept you guys?" she asks us as we start to walk to the middle of the room. "Was it our blonde masked woman with a big stick, beating the sauce out of bad guys?"
"This time it was guns." Oliver says, taking my arm in his.
"Guns?!" Felicity exclaims.
"We were just talking about guns." says a familiar voice behind us, making us turn around.
To see Sebastian Blood and... Laurel?
"Oliver. Elena. Hey." she says, smiling, but something's off about her.
Nevertheless, I smile and hug her as she hugs me, and I smell the faint scent of alcohol. "Hey, Laurel." I say, kindly.
"Hi." Oliver says to Laurel, smiling slightly.
"Hello, Elena." Sebastian says, sweetly at me. "What a pleasure it is to see you again."
I smile slightly at him. "Hello, Sebastian. It is a pleasure to see you again. Although, I'm not necessarily happy that you turned loose an angry mob on Oliver last week."
He sighs. "I have already apologized to Mr. Queen about that. I'm sorry. It won't happen again. I promise this on our friendship."
"I'll hold you to that, Alderman."
He turns to Oliver. "What's your interest in guns, Mr. Queen?" he asks.
"Never touch them myself." Oliver says, smiling slightly.
"The gun epidemic in the Glades has increasingly out of control." Sebastian says.
"Which is why the D.A.'s office is committed to end gun violence." Laurel says, adding herself in the conversation.
"Well, I'm sure that the police are doing whatever they can to catch whoever's bringing weapons into the city." I say, for Laurel's dad's sake.
But, surprisingly, Sebastian chuckles and Laurel looks uncomfortable.
"Did I say something funny?" I ask lightly.
"They know who's been arming the gangs, Elena." Laurel says to me. "The Mayor."
"The... Mayor?" I ask, confused.
"I thought the Hood copycats killed the mayor." Oliver says, also confused.
"Well, not the ACTUAL mayor." Sebastian explains. "A local gang leader calls himself, 'The Mayor'. Thinks he's the man to save the city."
"But, that position has already been filled, hasn't it?" Laurel asks Sebastian, more like... flirting?
Sebastian laughs, whereas Oliver and I just smile. Then, Sebastian continues: "Now, this Mayor has one goal in mind: to create chaos so he can rule the Glades at a barrel of a gun."
"He'll get caught, eventually." I say.
"Yes, let's hope so." Sebastian says, nodding.
"Well, it was great seeing the two of you, but we'll be leaving you now." Oliver says, respectively.
We say goodbye to each other as Oliver drags me to the middle of the dance floor as they start to play a slow song.
Oliver grabs my right hand with his left and places his right hand on my waist, while I put my left hand on his right shoulder.
We start waltzing and just stare at each other. It feels perfect. Kinda like our first waltz. It seems so long ago.
Finally, Oliver says: "You look absolutely beautiful."
I blush a little as my smile widens. "Not too bad yourself, Queen."
"Let's finish this party and get back to work."
"Sounds like a plan to me. But until then, just shut up and dance me. I mean it, Oliver."
"Yes, ma'am."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Half an hour after me and Oliver's dance (and a quick make out session in his room), I walk to Laurel, who just drank a bit out of her third glass of champagne. That's a little much for a small party.

"Hey." I say behind her.

She turns around and says before I can say anything: "Please don't ask if I'm okay, because I am sick to death of everyone asking me that!"

"I would never do that!" I say in the same way.

"Good." she sighs in relief.

I wait a few seconds before smirking and asking, "You okay?"

She laughs for a few seconds, and I join in laughing. Then, we stop and go back to being serious.

"The Dollmaker was just your garden variety traumatic experience. After the Quake and Tommy, I should be used to that by now." she says, sadly.

"I've had a few of those, too, you know." I say, reassuringly. "You never get used to them."

"Ahem. Excuse me, Ms. Swan?" someone says behind me, I turn to see Felicity. "May I talk to you for a second? It's urgent."

"Of course, Felicity." I say to her before I turn back to Laurel. "I'll be right back, okay?"

"Okay." Laurel says, smiling, taking another drink out of her champagne.

Felicity and I walk a little bit away from her. "What's up?" I ask her.

"I just realized something." she says. "What if our masked friend, who keeps showing up everywhere you and Oliver are, you remember her?"

"What about her?" I nod as I ask.

"What if we've been going about this the wrong way? We thought she was obsessed with you guys. I mean, she showed up at the D.A.'s office when you guys were there, and in the chemical plant where the Dollmaker was holed up.

"But, who else was at both those locations? What if our friend isn't following you and Oliver?"

I thought about it for a second before realizing...

"She's following Laurel."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Later that evening, Oliver and I stood a few rooftops away from Laurel's apartment, both in our outfits.
Our traps all set and ready to do their jobs.
"You ready?" I ask Oliver, who stands beside me.
"Yeah. Let's do this." he responds as he bends his head down to kiss me quickly.
We pull apart and he goes to stand by the wall while I draw an arrow out and aim it near the blonde masked woman's head. I know it's not going to hurt her, just get her attention.
I shoot and it hits the spot on the wall where I wanted it to. She turns around and starts to run toward us. I go to stand by Oliver against the wall.
A few seconds later, we hear the crossbows fire and panting of the woman.
We walk out of the shadows that covered us and towards the woman. She throws one of her sonic devices in front of us, activating the loud whirring. But, like before, it doesn't bother me.
"Can it get any louder?" I ask her, jest at her actually, voice box on.
She says nothing, so I pull a dagger out of my belt and throw it at the device, destroying it, without looking at it.
Hey, it was starting to annoy me.
"Why are you following Laurel Lance?" I ask her seriously.
"I could ask the same thing of you two. Guess some things never change." she says to me before looking at Oliver. "You and her, always and forever."
She says that, as if she knows that Oliver and Laurel were in love and together for the longest time. How?
"Who are you?" Oliver asks her.
"Once you know, your life will never be the same." she says.
We walk a little closer as I say: "We can take it."
"Not this time... Lala."
'Lala' is a nickname a friend who I was really close with gave me. Every one calls me it sometimes, but that friend called me 'Lala' almost all the time.
I reach and pull the wig that was platinum blonde off and revealed light gold hair. Then I pull of her mask.
Oliver pulls his hood back and I pull off my own mask off.
It can't be...
"Sara?!" I exclaim.
She just looks at me in an expression mixed of sadness and a little bit of joy.
"I'll give you some time, Lena. To let it sink in." Sara says before she throws another sonic device, blinking red.
I quickly grab Oliver and we both hit the dirt. Because the sonic thing explodes!
We look back, but Sara's gone. All the ropes lay on the ground.
She's gone again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We're back in Verdant, in the Cave. Oliver and I sit down in chairs, both our heads hanging down, and my mask sitting next to me on the computer.

"Sara Lance?" Felicity asks us, making sure she heard our story correctly.

"OUR Sara?" Danny asks me from across from me, shocked more than confused.

"Laurel's sister. The detective's other daughter." she says to us both before directing her voice at Oliver. "The one you took on "The Gambit" with you, even though you were dating Laurel at that time, which we never talk about."

"Felicity, please..." Danny trails off, knowing that I'm going to snap any second.

"And my best friend AND my other best friend's sister, if you want to add those to the list, Felicity." I somewhat snap, trying to keep it down, still looking at the floor.

"I'm- I'm sorry. But, isn't... isn't she dead?" Felicity asks.

I turn my head to look at her temporarily. "Obviously not." I say before looking at the ground.

"But, Oliver told everyone that she died when "The Gambit" went down. That she died." Felicity carries on.
Oliver and I lift our heads up at the same time and I move my chair to him. He grabs my hand and holds it, tightly.

"You lied." John says.

Oliver sighs. "When "The Gambit" capsized... uh... Sara was pulled under. It was so dark and cold. And... I thought she drowned. About a year later, I saw her." he says.

"You saw her, where? On the Island?" Danny asks. "Did she drift to the Island, too?"

"Not exactly." Oliver says, looking at Danny.

"Why didn't you tell the Lances that Sara didn't die on that boat?" Felicity asks Oliver. "Laurel AND Mr. Lance, they blame you."

"Yeah, well, it was my fault." Oliver admits.

Then, he reaches his other hand over and pulls me onto his lap and then wraps his arms around my torso. And I drape my right arm across his shoulders and rest my left hand on his left arm.

"What happened was my fault." he says.

"No, Oliver, it's-"

"Well, where's she been all these years, Oliver?!" John asks, interrupting me from telling Oliver it wasn't all his fault.

"I don't know!" Oliver snaps, his grip getting a little tighter, but John looks like he doesn't really believe Oliver. "Diggle, I swear to God! I was sure she was dead."

Felicity sighs. "Don't you have any happy stories?"

"Okay, just so I understand this correctly," John starts. "After not drowning when "The Gambit" went down, Sarah didn't exactly make it to the Island, where you would see her die yet again. Feel free to fill in the blanks."

"Not right now." Oliver says, trying not to snap, too.

"You mean, 'Not ever', don't you, Oliver?" John snaps.

"Don't you think that her family a right to know that their daughter made it to the Island, too?" Felicity asks.

That makes me finally snap. "Felicity, these were FIVE YEARS!!!!!" I shout at both of them. "FIVE YEARS, where nothing GOOD happened to any of us!!!"

"And they were better off not knowing." Oliver says to them before whispering: "Thank you for saying that." in my ear.

"Do they deserve to know NOW?" John asks.

"That's up to Sara if she wants them to know." I say.

"Why?" Felicity asks me.

"Because, sometimes, there are things that you never want your family to know." I say.

"And why is that?" John asks me.

"Because you're terrified that they won't see you like they used to and that their feelings for you will change."

Oliver sighs then kisses my cheek. "I need to take care of some business at the office. Where are we with the Mayor?" he asks John as we both stand up and walk over to John.

"I'm in with some of my military sources. Trying to get a line on how he's getting his illegal Army weaponry. I'll keep you updated." John says and we start walking away. "You know, Oliver, someone told me once...

"Secrets have weight. The more you keep, the harder it is to keep moving."

I turn back to look back at John. "You see how hard we both work out." I say.

Without another word, Oliver and I change clothes. Then, we go to our bikes and ride them to Oliver's house. And we call it a night.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day, after work, Oliver and I walk back into the Cave. Both kinda pissed at Isabel Rochev.
Oliver wants to do a Cash for Guns event in the Glades to get on Sebastian's good side, without mentioning the Queen family name in it. Isabel told Oliver that QC isn't going to pay for it.
But, she doesn't know that Oliver has a girlfriend who CAN pay for that event, so I'm going to help Oliver with it.
Felicity, John, and Danny are already here. I go to Danny and hug him for a second.
"Please give me some good news." Oliver says.
"Bad news first." John says. "Somehow, the Mayor DID get his hands on a crate of weapons from Camp Kirby."
"And the good news?" Oliver asks.
"If he kept the crate, we might be able to find out where he's hiding." Felicity says. "This is the same make and model of a tracking system that the Army installs on all of its weapon crates. If they lose a crate, they send out a remote signal that activates the beacon."
"The Mayor is clever. He deactivated the beacon. Send a signal, nothing comes back." Danny says.
I sigh and roll my eyes. "You all NEED to work on your definition of 'good news'." I say, making Oliver, John, and Danny smile.
"Okay, how's this? Guess which company designed the tracking systems the Army uses?" Felicity says and at THIS I smile.
I look over at Oliver. "I'll give you a hint. The CEO? Always late." I say, smiling.
At this, Oliver smiles even more. "Funny." he says as he kisses my lips quickly.
"I try." I say, blushing, before looking back at Felicity. "Nice job, Felicity."
"I pulled up the original design plans from the QC mainframe. Turns out, there's a design flaw. The deacon is still susceptible to a subform wave, even if it's been deactivated." Felicity says.
"The Mayor turned it off, Elena." Danny says, smiling. "We can turn it back on."
"Now, that sounds like good news." I say as Felicity types in some codes.
And a second later, a location pops up on the screen. "I believe you ordered a crate of stolen weapons, Ms. Swan and Mr. Queen." Felicity says, looking at us, smiling.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well,... that was fun. No, really, it was fun.

Hey y'all! This is Aleina (the writer, not the Swan). I just wanted to say, "Hey!" and thank you guys for reading these first few chapters.

So, what do you guys think? About the book? The Swan siblings? Elena's personality?

And most importantly,... what do you guys think about Oliver and Elena?

Too romantic? Should I take it down a notch?

Oh, and another thing. I need ship names. Any ship names. I'll take the most popular ones (depending on the couple) and see what you guys think.

Sound good? Okay, well, that's all for now.

Happy Reading!
-Aleina Lister
