Jungkook
Well, at least they were still college kids at heart.
By that Jungkook meant the friend group had their college spirit within them, and that was proven by the odd choice to have a game of truth or dare in the living room, right next to the fireplace with Seulgi's playlist playing on Chaeyoung's speaker. Taehyung clapped his hands together and bounced in his spot, which was quite the feat considering he was sitting criss-cross-applesauce. Jungkook respected that, though.
Out of all of Y/n's friends, Taehyung was the one Jungkook tolerated the most (aside from Yoongi, of course). Chaeyoung was nice but a bit annoying at times with her insistence on, well, being nice. Taehyung was more down-to-earth and knew when to contain himself. Almost like Yoongi. Taehyung wasn't cold, he just managed his emotions well.
"I'll go first cause I have the fattest ass," Jimin said, flipping his dark hair back and leaning forward to investigate the group, who sat in one giant circle in front of the couch. The lean showed off said fat ass. As much as Jungkook didn't like the man, he'd give Jimin one thing: he wasn't a liar. "Y/n, my dear... truth or dare."
"Truth. I'm not taking a dare by you, I know you'll make me lick something gross."
"Lick my ass, L/n," Jimin said, sticking his tongue out. He huffed and rolled his eyes at her. "But fine, since you want to be boring, we'll go with truth. Tell us your favorite memory with me."
"Seriously? Are you five?"
Jimin held up his tiny fingers. "Six, thank you."
Jungkook wished he had alcohol, but he abstained with Taehyung when Yoongi had offered. Everyone aside from Taekook drank their asses off. None of them had slurred words or whacky movements yet, but yet was the key word there.
Alcohol was enjoyable. Jungkook adored it and wanted to drink when he could, though he wasn't comfortable with the friend group at that time. He had to gain more trust in them to be able to let his guard down and drink. Or have Yoongi be the sober one watching over him. Yeah, it sounded childish that Jungkook needed a babysitter, but he could get wild while drunk, and he had no intentions of getting so wild it got concerning.
"Every time you stop talking is my favorite memory," Y/n said, batting her eyelashes at Jimin.
Lord, that expression. Jungkook could stare at it all day. And no, it wasn't because of Y/n, it was because of the way she got Park Jimin to shut the fuck up for once. Anyone who could do that deserved head and a million dollars.
"Wow." Jimin threw a hand over his chest, pouting like an infant. "Can't you humor me and give me a real answer?"
Ugh. That was why Jungkook hated Jimin. The puppy-like man child whined 24/7 and clung to Y/n like his life depended on it. Ew. How could Y/n stand that? Well, he got the answer to that at the pet store, when Y/n sorta got on his ass about bullying her because he hated Jimin. But in his defense, hurting her meant hurting Jimin. Okay, maybe that was harsh. No, he didn't really bully her because he didn't like Jimin. The main reason was her attitude toward grades and pressure. She'd never understand, though. Even if she could, she wouldn't listen to his reasoning.
"Fine." Y/n rolled her eyes, and then, she sighed and let her eyes relax, letting them grow a bit wider as if she were remembering something. "Tenth grade. I tripped on the walk home and got a tiny scratch, then you carried me all the way home. A twenty minute walk. I was fine, but you wouldn't let me put an ounce of weight on it, and then you cleaned my fatal wound in your bathroom."
"Hey! I thought you were gonna bleed out!"
"Jimin, we were fifteen, not seven. You were old enough to know better."
"But..." Jimin huffed a strand of his dark locks out of his eyes. "Shut up."
Y/n chuckled and smiled at him. "I'm serious, though. That was the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me, even if you were just joking around."
"Yeah, yeah," Jimin said with a hand wave, blowing a raspberry at her. "I know, I know, I'm your knight in shining armor."
"Now who would ever hide such beauty behind armor," Seulgi said with a snort. After a beat, she added, "I mean, it's not like they make armor in your size anyway."
"I'm taller than you, asshole!"
"Maybe in height, but not in spirit."
And that resulted in a war. Y/n took Seulgi's side (of course) and threw pillows at Jimin while Yoongi, much to Jungkook's amazement, was the one cheering them on. Chaeyoung giggled and clapped, but as soon as Jimin threw a pillow at her, she joined in, and it became a three-on-one. Yet, somehow, Jimin took the lead. Well, he had small hands, but they were fast and effective. They were able to haul countless pillows at his enemies.
Alcohol got spilled, laughter made up the soundscape of the room, and the game was long forgotten. That gave Jungkook the perfect opportunity to sneak out while they fought. No one noticed. Or, at least, he thought no one did. As he entered the kitchen to get some water, a man entered with him and cleared his throat.
"I'm not participating in a pillow fight. Thanks, though," Jungkook said without turning around, grabbing a bottle from the fridge and twisting the cap off. The cool liquid soothed him, and he almost moaned. Water was the shit. He didn't care if that made him lame.
"It's a good thing I'm not either," Taehyung's voice said, and Jungkook stiffened at that. The man with the boxy smile approached and leaned on the second fridge door, a bit too close for comfort. He met Jungkook's stare. "You okay?"
"Yeah." Jungkook shifted in his spot, averting his gaze. Eye contact was impossible for him. He was like Yoongi in that regard. "Just not a big fan of Jimin and Y/n."
"We know. But if you don't like them, why did you come on the trip?"
"Yoongi. He's the reason I came and the reason Jimin let me come. That damn bastard could get this entire group to jump into a volcano."
"And we'd thank him," Taehyung said with a short nod. "Yeah, I'd do anything for that man."
Jungkook didn't bother pointing out how sump-like that was and instead stepped away from the fridge to keep chugging his water. Headaches were the bane of his existence, but he got them often. Migraines ran in his family. He had been one of the last recipients back in high school, and ever since, he had gotten used to chugging so much water that he had to use the bathroom every forty minutes.
"Who wouldn't?" Jungkook chuckled as he said it, noticing how Taehyung fiddled with his fingers. "Hey, you okay?"
"Yeah, just a little nervous, being around drunk people and all. Mind if I chill with you?"
"Sure, bud." Jungkook didn't know where the term bud came from, but he said it before he could stop himself, and he didn't bother taking it back after it passed his lips. "Why don't we go up to my room? More peaceful up there."
"Sounds great. Thanks, Jungkook. Maybe you're not as much of an asshole as I thought."
"Oh, trust me, I am, I just like you more than the others. Now c'mon."
Jungkook grabbed Taehyung and dragged him out of the kitchen before the man could question what Jungkook meant. Yes, he liked Taehyung more. Yoongi and Taehyung got bestie privilege, and Chaeyoung got I don't hate you privilege. The others could go fall in a ditch for all he cared.
The lobby greeted Jungkook as he pulled Tae through it, but the rest of his friend group had other plans. By the "rest of," he meant Jimin and Y/n. Y/n ran out of the living room with a laugh, holding a pillow and rushing away from the stumbling Jimin. But the problem was she wasn't looking where she was going. That resulted in, you guessed it, a collision.
A collision with Jungkook.
Y/n's body sprinted into his, and Jungkook, being much stronger, managed to hold his ground and rip his hand away from Tae and grab Y/n instead on instinct. His reflexes kicked in and held Y/n as she groaned thanks to the head-first pummeling she received from Jungkook's collarbone. Or was it his chest? He didn't pay attention to the impact. His focus remained on his hand sliding to her waist to steady her wobbling self.
"Shit, sorry," Y/n mumbled, rubbing her head with a grunt. She fluttered her eyes open, and it was then that Jungkook noticed how her nose brushed by his chin as she pulled back to stare at him, and her lips remained parted when she saw him there. Maybe they parted more than usual, like a jaw falling to the ground. "Oh. Jeon."
"Y/n." He released her and cleared his throat. "Watch where you're going next time."
"Asshole."
"You ran into me, not the other way around."
"Maybe if your chest wasn't so massive," she started with a huff, "I wouldn't have ran into you."
"Are you blaming me for you being an idiot-"
"Ladies, ladies," Jimin interrupted, pushing his way between them. "Argue later. Y/n and I have a pillow fight to get back to, so if you'll excuse us..."
Jimin whacked her in the head with the pillow and dashed back to the living room, and Y/n seemed to forget all about Jungkook. Y/n took off after Jimin, and Jungkook watched her go, observing the way her hair looked, same with the way her clothes hugged her pretty body. But when Taehyung latched onto his arm again, Jungkook snapped out of it.
"You okay?"
"Yeah, that just hurt." Jungkook faked a wince. Another thing he was good at from practice. "I was trying to hide it in front of her. Don't want her to see me as weak, y'know?"
"Sure."
Taehyung didn't press any further, and Jungkook sent a mental thanks for that.
With the distraction gone, Jungkook guided Taehyung out of there and up to his room. But even after leaving, Jungkook's mind was filled to the brim. All with one thought. Or, more accurately, one person.
Y/n.
