Chapter 7: New Beginnings

After the gathering at the amphitheater, all of the students both old and new were to go back to their respective dorms. The staff had already reserved some dorms for the first year students. Hartmann was following Glynda to his new dorm that are reserved for the specialists. His old dorm might be turned to a storage room thing.

Before he follows Glynda, he encountered team CFVY and the newly formed teams; RWBY and JNPR. All of them were very glad that he gets to stay in the academy. Though not only that, some were impressed that he become one of the specialist huntsman in beacon academy.

Ruby and Yang had heard of the specialist huntsman from their dad, Taiyang. He told his daughters that he was once ambushed by Grimm when he was atleast 9 or 10, and then a specialist huntsman had come to save his life. They were also pretty badass when fighting that even a 4-team would lose to the specialists.

Now that their friend Hartmann become the fourth specialist, they were very eager to hang with him and maybe tell their father too.

Weiss didn't even knew other academies have specialist huntsman. And even though Atlas have specialists in their army, almost all of them were in the military and not from the huntsman academy. One example is her older sister, Winter Schnee. A specialist in the Powerful Atlesian army.

Now she begin to wonder what her sister meant of this "Titan" weapon before she left to beacon.

However, some only cared when Hartmann gets to stay in the academy. Most specifically Coco and Velvet. The two had been hanging out with him for 2 weeks passed, even when in training or walking throughout the city. It almost feels like he was a part of their own team.

This made Yatsuhashi to drag them both away from the German for some time so they won't get too 'attached'.

Hartmann just chuckles until he was called out by Glynda so she can escort the German to his new dorm room. He said his goodbyes to them and followed the middle-aged blonde teacher.

"You seem to be getting along with some of the new first year students, Mr. Hartmann." Glynda said about RWBY and JNPR, breaking the silence.

"Well, i have met a few of them before. They are somewhat interesting." Hartmann replied.

"And what do you mean by that?" she asked.

"I can not put a finger on it." He said thinking with his fingers under his lower jaw. "But maybe i will find out soon."

The blonde huntress chuckles. "Alright then."

Glynda and Hartmann walked a good 5 minutes until they saw two figures infront of them. One is very tall man with messy green hair as he wore round glasses. He wore a white shirt partially tucked into his dark-green pants and its collar raised, showing a slack yellow tie, along with mismatched brown and black shoes.

By his right was an overweight man with grey hair and a grey mustache, which he is also shorter. He wears a double-breasted burgundy suit with gold piping and buttons. His pants he wears tucked into olive boots, similar in appearance and construction to cavalry boots.

Hartmann knew those two as Doctor Bartholomew Oobleck and Professor Peter Port.

They appear to be talking to eachother but soon stopped when they saw Glynda and their new fourth specialist huntsman.

"Ah, there's our fourth specialist huntsman of beacon." Port said.

Hartmann smiled and waved to the teachers. "Hello Professor port and Doctor Oobleck."

"And hello to you too, Mr. Hartmann." Oobleck replied. "Might i say that you had done pretty well on your initiation."

"Thank you, Doctor."

"Although you need to improve of that horrid landing strategy." Port continued, talking about Hartmann's failed landing strategy. "My huntsman eyes just can't bear enough to see it again."

"Hey! It wasn't his fault." Oobleck defended him just like Glynda did back at the cliff. "Someone put a tree branch in his way!"

"Okay, cut the chatter you two." Glynda intervened, getting the trio's attention. "I think our specialist is eager to see his new dorm now."

Both male teachers stand at attention. "Ah yes! How could we ever forget." Oobleck exclaimed and then turn to the German. "We have moved all your stuff from your previous dorm to this one here." He gestured at the door.

Port followed. "Everything is already packed inside those boxes. Just open them whenever you feel like it. No need to thank us."

"We'll see you tomorrow morning, specialist Jäger." Glynda said with a smile.

And with that the three teachers of beacon walked away from Hartmann. Leaving him alone infront of the door to his new dorm.

He exhaled and stared at the door for a few seconds. "I guess this is it." He said before opening the door of his new dorm.

The room totally caught his interests. It contains the bedroom, living quarters, and a bathroom.

All of this for just one person seems a bit too much Hartmann had thought. But then again he is a Specialist Huntsman, which basically the elite group at this academy, so they bound to get special treatment. Another thought that he can invite some of his beacon friends to hang out here.

Hartmann can see that the crates containing the German equipment back on earth were all there near the couches, tables and the holo-tv.

It made the living area to be a bit cramp, but not that cramped for one person. He'll tidy the place up tomorrow. But for now, the German head straight into the bed area, not before removing his uniform and changing into a regular grey t-shirt and shorts, finally laying down on the medium sized bed.

Guess this is it for him. An official student in the academy, even become one of their huntsman elites. It was a new beginning for him. The new planet was not all that bad, though he still needs to learn all about Remnant as he try to forget all the horrors happened from his old planet, Earth.

As the German drifted to sleep, he had one question in mind that probably tells the future of his life and all of his new friends in Beacon.

What could ever go wrong?

Elsewhere in Vale, midnight

The streets of Vale were almost empty, with a few people walking on the sidewalk or closing their shops. The streetlights were all on, lighting up the dark road.

Then a hooded silhouette was seen walking along the sidewalk, passing by a few pedestrians that gave him weird looks. In which he mostly ignored as he kept walking along.

His PPSH 41 was covered by his hood as it was hanging from the sling of the gun. He did it to not attract attention from anyone or the police. Even if they might, he had to kill them, no witnesses.

The hooded man then arrived to a nearby small apartment block where he rented a room for some time. Thanks to the Lein that they gave to him. It'll be his temporary base.

He made his way to his room and opened the door. The room was simple. A bed, bathroom, small living area with a couch, table and holo-tv, and then a kitchen area for him to cook some food....if he could.

Sighing, he put down his PPSH 41 by the side of the door and sat on the couch. He sat down for a minute or two, relaxing a bit.

That is when his scroll was vibrating from the table, making him to groan and went ahead to pick it up.

He looked at the Caller's name and sighed on who it was. That didn't stop him from answering the call.

"What do you want?" He asked in his usual gruff accent

"You know what you think that I want." A female voice spoke from the scroll.

The hooded man sighed. "Look, i will be there in noon. I am tired and in the need of sleep here."

"That still doesn't stop you for doing your orders. You do not want to make her angry do you?" He can see the smirk from the woman from the call and it always pisses him off.

"As i thought." She said, taking the silence as a response from him. "Don't keep me waiting." And with that, the call ended.

His immediate response is grabbing an old sickle he found and then stab the table in anger. The blade penetrating deep at the wood.

"Fucking Bitch..." He looks outside at the night sky with the shattered moon illuminating the dark parts of the room. "One day i will show her who she is messing with..."

The Next Day, Beacon Academy

It is now the first day of the first year students to finally be teaching in the academy.

The Academy's Fourth specialist huntsman had woken up from his good sleep. He had admit, during his arrival in remnant, he seemed relaxed. More than two weeks of not hearing gunfire or destruction every minute now and then.

When he check the time, it was two hours left before his first official class. Glynda had give him the schedule a week before his enrollment, so he's currently in a good run of this.

She told him to wore the school uniform everyday in class. It was the dress code of this school and those who don't follow it will receive punishment, and Hartmann didn't want it happen to him.

The German went to the cupboard after a good shower, then he took a quick look at his own Beacon uniform.

Pretty Stylish. Coco sure likes clothes like this one, though somehow he remembered she sometimes despise wearing the girl version of the uniform.

Hartmann then changed to it and it is actually fit by his size. Not too big nor small, just the right size. He'll leave his trusty hat in the dorm since he thinks it is against the dress code.

After all of that is sorted out, he open the door and went out to this hour's class. Grimm studies from Peter Port.

As he walk to the hallways, he passed by two dorm doors that were occupied by teams RWBY and JNPR. He didn't know about it before he hears a loud whistle coming from one of the rooms, made him jump a little.

After the whistle, he hears mumbling and shouting from the inside. He pressed his ear to the door and listen to the voices. "Now that you and all of us are awake, we can officially begin our first order of business." Ruby's voice was heard.

"What are you talking about?" Weiss' voice followed

"Decorating!" Yang exclaimed.

This caught his interests since he once did decorating once, he usually goes decorating his own bedroom with cool stuff he liked. He thought of intervening with the girls, but he had to focus on the class schedule. He check the time a bit and it is an hour and thirty minutes left before class.

He went back listening to the conversation with Ruby declaring. "Alright then. Weiss, Blake, Yang, and their fearless leader Ruby have begun their first mission!"

"Banzai!" She shouted.

"Banzai!" Yang and Blake followed, but Weiss didn't joined in. Hartmann then decides to leave them be and walk away. He begin to thought of the word that Ruby, Yang, and Blake called out.

He felt that he had heard of that "Banzai" sound somewhere and was pretty familiar to him. He then tried to think back of when he heard of the word back in earth and who had used it.

Meanwhile in Earth, pacific theater

"TENNO HEIKA BANZAI!" An Imperial Japanese officer shouted before charging to the firefight with his katana.

"BANZAI!!!" His troops and comrades shouted and followed suit, charging to the battlefield where the American troops are on the other side, which the latter tries to gun them all down with their machineguns.

"Don't let them get close!" a U.S marine named Alex Ambers shouted and fired his M1 Garand to the Japanese forces.

Minutes later, both sides ended up in a bloody fight.

Back in remnant

'Eh...i am sure it's nothing.' Hartmann shrugged and went along his path.

The Cafeteria, 30 minutes later
Hartmann went to the cafeteria to get something to eat. It is important for him to have breakfast in the morning before doing his activities or any other stuff. It'll give him the energy to carry on for the rest of the day.

After eating some sausages and eggs, he was now energized to go on the rest of the day, and it was now an hour left before class.

"Hey you there." A voice called out to him. Hartmann turned to the direction and there he saw a green mohawk student approaching to him.

He recognize him as Russel Thrush, one of the members of Team CRDL.

"Can i help you or anything?" Hartmann asked.

"Nah." The mohawk shook his head. "I just want to talk." Hartmann raised his eyebrow, but he let Russel speak. "So you're supposed to be the specialist huntsman, are ya?"

The German gave him a nod. "I am indeed. Why you asked?"

Russel smiles proudly. "My grandfather were one of those guys." Hartmann gave him a surprised look hearing it.

(Quick note: Keep in mind that i'm writing my own thing in this book, or i should say "Headcanons". So, you will not see the usual copy paste scenes in this volume.)

"Are you sure?" Hartmann didn't believe about it at first. Russel could be lying to him.

"Do i look like a liar to ya?" Russel said. Hartmann just shrugged, earning a groan from the mohawk.

"Of course i'm telling the truth here. My Grandfather was Beacon's third specialist Huntsman for many many years ago. My dad told me he was a badass back then."

Hartmann let him continue. "I never thought i would attend this academy with the fourth specialist huntsman of Beacon. Sounds good to be true. Could be better if i was the specialists, y'know? Not that i have a big deal about it."

"I did not even plan on becoming one of them though." Hartmann explained. "It just somehow happens to me not on purpose."

"My grandpops was on the same boat as that." Hartmann let out a chuckle at that. He then asked Russel if they can take this conversation elsewhere to the halls, since there is only one hour left till class.

He agrees and they walk to their respective classes.

Timeskip to the Grimm studies class

Hartmann just had a very interesting conversation with Russel minutes earlier. The topic was mostly about the specialist program of beacon and maybe talk about themselves more.

Russel told him that he lived somewhere in the outskirts of vale before moving to the kingdom itself. The outside world was pretty dangerous with the Grimm lurking around.

The mohawk then talked about his team, CRDL, which Hartmann knew that it was led by some guy named Cardin Winchester.

Russel then told the German that the former saw that Cardin was a bit jealous that he didn't become one of the specialists. It made him laugh seeing Cardin in the mood like that.

Then Hartmann heard that Russel had an alternate name for himself. It was something called Shane Newville.

He asked what Russel meant about that, but the latter just said that it was a cool name to go with. And the name felt like that he could maybe become a greatest animator of fight scenes, or become an apprentice of one.

They both went separate ways when they reached the Grimm studies classroom. Hartmann went in, greeting professor port and sat down on one of the tables.

"Same schedule?" Velvet entered the room and head over to the table where Hartmann is. He look over to her and shrugged.

"I guess so. Where is the rest at?"

"Yatsu will catch up in a few minutes. I went ahead first." The rabbit faunus sat down next to him and put down her books.

Hartmann saw that Velvet took out a small picture from her pocket. The rabbit faunus look to whatever the picture was and smiled.

Which caught his interest as he asked.  "What is that picture?"

"Oh." Velvet noticed and put down the picture on the table, sliding it to him. "It's a photo of one of my family members."

Hartmann gets a closer look to the picture and what he saw was another brown-haired Rabbit faunus that almost looks like Velvet, but it appears that her ears are slightly shorter and straight up, while also having blue eyes.

"Amiya Scarlatina." Velvet said smiling. "My little sister."

"She looks cute." Hartmann commented.

"She really is."

"Her ears looked a bit straight up." He observed the picture.

"Yeah, which is also a problem for her too. Because some people thought she's a Donkey Faunus, and she really hates being called that. One time when i called her a donkey, she had a mini but cute tantrum."

Both of them let out a chuckle. "Tell me more about her." Hartmann said.

"Amiya is not that open like me. She can be shy and nervous, but sometimes can be confident. She also has a few friends. I am one of them, even though i am her sister, and the others is this Male Doctor person and another doctor named Kal'tsit " Velvet explains.

"Der Artz?" Velvet raise an eyebrow to him, confused. Hartmann choked a bit. "Sorry, that means Doctor in a language of mine."

Velvet narrowed her eyes to him, suspicious. "Okay..."

"Back on topic. So she friended two doctors?"

"Yeah. She got caught in an ambush by a beowolf and the aftermath was..."

Velvet looked like she was trying not to think back what happened last time to her. "L-Let's just say it was pretty bad that she had to be taken to a hospital.."

"I see what you mean. And then these two doctors quickly saved her life?" Velvet nods.

"Yeah, and by that time she begin to grew close to them."

Hartmann did remembered that Velvet join the academy to try and protect those she loved. With Amiya being one of them.

"Class is already starting. We might talk about this later." Velvet pointed out when Port begins to teach the students. With Yatsuhashi sitting beside Velvet and then team RWBY appeared in class just in time.

Guess all that decorating and Banzai-ing back in their room wasted their time on the schedule.

"Y-Yeah...okay." said Hartmann before turning back upfront where Port is.

"By the way...sometimes she calls the male one, 'Dokutah', another word for doctor." She whispers.

Hartmann let out a slight chuckle and focus back on the class.

Timeskip

The class went a bit well, except for the fact that Port stops the lesson to tell his stories like always. The senior students groaned every time he does that, even Velvet.

Hartmann didn't really need to learn all the Grimm stuff because he already did and had written some notes.

Checking his notebook about Grimm studies, he reread it again to remember what their counters are.

Speaking of Grimm, he thought back of the Beowolf he fought during initiation. The one he fought that was acting like a human being as it was fighting him with a tree branch like a melee weapon.

He look back to the notes that has the Beowolf section and he didn't wrote anything about the ones on hind legs while using other weapons than their claws.

Looking around the class, the students felt a bit bored with some falling asleep, Ruby being one of them. Ruby has her head propped in her hand as she takes a quick nap until she is woken back up by Port's bad joke, which receives a cricket-filled silence as a result.

Port cleared his throat and continued on the lesson. "Now, as I was saying: Vale, as well as the other three kingdoms, are the most secured places in an otherwise treacherous world! Our planet is absolutely teeming with creatures that would love nothing more than to tear you to pieces! The nasty Grimm!"

"I remember once i fought those Beowolves and Ursai with my trusty weapon when i was a young lad!" He exclaimed. "Which reminds me of another story of my Handsome young self."

"Mister Port. I have a question."

Port stopped himself to tell his story when he heard someone calling his name. Some students that were about to cover their ears from Port's story turn their heads to the person.

And of course it's Hartmann that said his name, with his arm raised up.

"Ah! Beacon's new Specialist finally spoken a word in my class. Please, ask me your question." Port said in delight.

The rest of the class turned their heads to Hartmann, some pretty eager to hear what the school's Specialist will say. Team RWBY, Velvet and Yatsuhashi too.

He let out a breathe of air, first. "About the Grimm you were talking about. Are there any chances of them become to act more...human like?"

The class raise their eyebrows in confusion. "W-What i mean is, is it common for Grimm to act like a human being. For example; picking up weapons from the environment?"

Port rubbed his mustache for a moment. "Oh! I see what you're talking about. Infact, i even have a video of it."

The whole class turned back upfront as Hartmann sit back down, all watching port walking to his desk. "I'm afraid my story will have to wait, since our specialist ask me a very important subject. Just let me get the Projector somewhere..."

Sighs of relief were heard in the class, the students were glad they didn't have to hear more of Port's story and focus on something that seems important, all thanks to their Specialist.

One student whispered to him, as the latter look back. They mouthed "Thank you.", earning a smile from the German before turning back upfront.

"Here it is!" Port took out a futuristic Projector from the table. He turned  the object, facing it at the whiteboard, then erasing the scribbles and drawings.

The class is now very eager to see instead of being bored out. Ruby mouthed "Finally" as she gets to hear something not boring, though she's still a bit sleepy.

If Hartmann sat next to Weiss, she would thank him for bringing more important info about this Grimm acting Human. Even if she didn't believe it when she heard it, she still want to see what Port has with his projector.

Speaking of which, Port finally had the projector set up. The cable plugged in with a weird device that supposed to be where the video is.

The middle aged man turned back to his students. "Now you all might be wondering what i am going to show you, right?"

All of them respond with a nod.

"Well, I'm going to show you a footage of our Specialist in his Initiation, because we found something interesting."

Then it clicked. Hartmann already knew the Video that Port was going to show is the one where he fought that Branch-wielding Beowolf.

Then all the students were in a mix of Surprise and excitement. Ruby, Yang and Velvet were the ones that are pretty excited of what Hartmann had did. Yatsuhashi kept a straight face along with Blake, though the latter seemed interested. Weiss was on a mix of it.

Port turned on the projector and it shows a video still on pause. Most students leaned forward, waiting to see it.

The teacher pressed play and the video began. The students can see Hartmann stopping to take a break from all the running. Sometime later, the camera moved in to a beowolf, standing on it's hind legs.

Some students raised their eyebrows, as they seen beowolves did that before when fighting them. The camera turned back to the boy, now noticing the beowolf, his weapon readied.

It turned back to the wolf and it was just standing there. But then the wolf picked up the big tree branch next to him, with the feed zooming in as the Beowolf held the branch like a club with both of his arms.

It earned the shock from various students. Velvet check to her notes, franticly looking back to back from her notebook and the screen. Yatsuhashi had his eyes wide seeing it.

Weiss and Blake stared in disbelief while the Rose-Xialong sisters had their jaws dropped.

Seconds later, Hartmann, in the video, fired his gun as the Beowolf evades and starts attacking him with the branch.

Real life Hartmann just sighs while hearing various reactions from his friends and the rest of the class.

"What the gods??"

"Is this...real??"

"T-This...isn't corrupted or something right?"

"Oh my goodness!"
(Author: Squidward!)

"I..I never seen anything like that."

"Impossible..."

And it goes on. Not only the first years were shocked, but also some of the seniors.

Port just stare at the screen with a hidden smirk behind his mustache. He always wanted to show this to his class.

He then pauses the video and turned around to his students. "Shocking, isn't it?"

Most of them gave him nods while some were still processing of what they just see.

"Yes, i thought too this would happen someday. And by any means...is the Grimm are evolving!"

Hartmann, Weiss, Velvet, Yatsuhashi and a few other students took out their notebooks and starts writing down.

"And if you might be asking. The wolf isn't an alpha. It's just a regular old beowolf...which happens to be learning of using the environment."

Port resumed the video and the class either taking notes or kept watching the feed of the Branch-wielding beowolf. It went for 10-25 minutes as the feed ends with the Beowolf getting itself stabbed by the beak of the nevermore.

The same Nevermore that Ruby killed, which brings up where she exclaims that she did that, though almost everyone ignores it.

"That was an interesting video wasn't it?" Professor port turned off the video feed and unplug the projector. "See, this is one of the reasons we came here to this school. Swore to protect to those outside the kingdoms from the creatures of Grimm. Like that Branch-wielding beowolf our specialist fought."

"Who knows what other Grimm creatures might evolve too." the students begin theorizing what abilities the evolved Grimm creatures would do. Like what will the alpha beowolf would do that outmatches the Branch-wielding beowolf.

"There's even a possibility that the Grimm will make Human versions of us! With melee weapons or even guns, vehicles and aircraft! Soon they'll make an army of them and crush us to bits!"

A handful of students gasped a little.

The professor let out a laugh. "Hahaha, but we won't be giving up by those nasty creatures! No sir'e."

"Speaking of which." the professor turned to the said specialist. "Thank you, Mr. Hartmann for giving us an important subject. The rest of my class, and even me would've not learn about this by now."

Hartmann proudly smiled and nods. "I will do anything to help my huntsman allies."

The students, including his friends, smiled at his response. Few of the random female students took interests in him.

Suddenly the bell starts ringing, signaling that the class is over. "And that is it for today's lesson. I will see you next time."

The students got up from the chair and walk their way out of the class. Hartmann received some positive feedbacks from the students. Mostly because he saved them from getting bored to death by Port's stories.

"It looks like you're slowly getting popular." Yatsuhashi said beside him, with a slight smirk.

"Well i did help them not die of boredom." Hartmann replied.

Velvet brushed aside, looking a bit excited from the video she saw of that beowolf. "I can't wait to tell coco and fox about this. That aside, you were lucky surviving fighting an evolved Grimm." She said to Hartmann.

"If it was not for Ruby though, i would have been Grimm food." Hartmann pointed to Ruby, still by her team.

"Did you guys see what  i just did right there?? I saved Hartmann's life!"

"We know..we saw it." Weiss sighed.

The trio let out chuckles from the redcape's behavior.

"We should probably go now and meet back with Coco and Fox." Yatsuhashi said.

"That is fine by me." Hartmann replied.

"We'll see you then." Velvet and Yatsuhashi then left the class.

Hartmann pick up his things and walk out elsewhere to do something different before the next period. Maybe he would go to the library and read some books or hanging out with RWBY, JNPR or CFVY if their not busy. Or of course finding Russel and talk more about his grandfather.

He could even train to fight in both CQC and range to be strong enough at specialists level, he hoped so.

Though he didn't want to push himself for learning and training too much. After all, he has 4 years in academy before he graduates and become one of the best huntsman specialist ever.

He just hopes everything works out in the end and no such incidents will happen in this academy.

Outside of Vale

The hooded man just took a quick shower and was all dressed up to go to work. Just so he could pleased her

There was no other choice for him too since she was-

*RING*

And just by that, his thoughts were cut off by a scroll call from he knows who. He picked the scroll and he was right. A call from "Fall" like always.

He answered and she told him to be there wherever she was on time. He replied with a sigh before replying that he won't be late.

He then hears her usual evil chuckle from the call. "You better be."

And then the call ended.

The hooded man said no words as he went infront of the door, not before picking up his PPSH41 by the side of the door.

He looked at the gun for a second before cocking it and went out of the apartment to do his work, as always.
