6 - Sorry
Should I apologise on the very first night?
Jeonghan thought as he looked around his room at the new apartment, No, my first move should be to start warming up with him.
Their after-party had wrapped up by 11 pm and everyone had left after having a fun time together. Jeonghan and Seungcheol went to separate rooms as it was pretty obvious that they weren't going to share a room.
Jeonghan's mind had drifted to the conversation he had with the older, earlier in the kitchen. Although he had retorted Seungcheol's rage, he still knew that he was at fault and he had to fix everything.
It was true, it didn't matter how old the incident was, a broken heart couldn't be helped. It seemed that Seungcheol was extremely affected by it so of course, it wasn't as easy as Jeonghan was thinking.
It was when he heard a knock at his door. He turned around to witness Seungcheol with a bouquet. No, he didn't bring that, it was the gift through the guests or friends.
He kept the flowers on the table beside him and cleared his throat, "I want to discuss something with you. First of all, since everything started because of my mom, I'm sorry."
"It's fine-"
"You don't need to pretend to be fine." Seungcheol talked as if they were in a meeting, "We can file for a divorce after 6 months. Until then, let's just mind our own businesses. I know you want peace as well so I thought it would be better to clear things up as early as possible."
"Well-"
"And yeah." Seungcheol hesitated a bit, "Sorry for talking to you harshly in the kitchen. I didn't mean to, just forget whatever slipped off my tongue, I was a bit stressed at that time."
He slightly bowed, exactly what he always does in formal meetings and left the room.
"What was that?" Jeonghan mumbled to himself, "He already planned a divorce?" He sighed while closing his eyes, "It's for good anyways."
His phone rang and he picked it up to attend the call from his younger brother.
"I know we were together just a while ago but I wanted to talk to you." Joshua asked, "How are you?"
"In disbelief."
"Pardon?"
Jeonghan explained everything to Joshua about whatever Seungcheol had just told him as if it meant nothing.
"Already? So what are you going to do now?"
"Exactly what I was planning to do. See, I don't really care about this divorce. I knew it had to end, it was inevitable. Like, I can't even imagine me and him together. But the thing is, I want to end this on a good note. Our families are together every now and then, it doesn't make sense for us to be salty to each other."
"So you're trying to fix everything for us or for yourself?"
"Both. I'm honestly very guilty about what I did. It affected him so much that he still can't let it go. He's really hurt. He deserves a heartfelt apology from me and it wouldn't come all of a sudden. I've these 6 months to accomplish my mission."
"That's good. All the best to you! Now rest well okay?"
Jeonghan hung up the call and collapsed on his bed. It was when he recalled that his mother had given him a ring to hand it to Seungcheol in his own name. But Jeonghan knew that he would never accept the gift from his side so he decided to tell him the truth and hand him the present.
He made his way through the corridor to Seungcheol's room. His room's door was slightly open. He was going to knock when he noticed Seungcheol sitting on the edge of the bed with a photo frame in his hand.
What startled him was the fact that the photo was a couple photo, he and Seungcheol took when they were dating during high school. Yes, the same date which had caused a rift between them.
He then heard Seungcheol talking to himself or more accurately the photo.
"Do you know what makes me hate you even more? The fact that I can't actually hate you. It has been years, I've met many people, I've even dated a few of them but why can't anyone make me feel those things which you can still manage to?
Why do I still love you Jeonghan?
I don't want to see your face but I crave for it every fucking day. You would never understand my feelings but I'm being stupid. I want to hold you in my arms, kiss you and tell you how much I adore you. But you will never feel the same.
I even tried to date and move on from you but never once I found someone as mesmerizing as you. Why does it have to be YOU? Why not someone who can love me back? Why?"
Enough. It was more than enough for Jeonghan. He didn't know but tears were trailing down through his cheeks. He wiped them and rushed to his own room.
He shut the door and opened the top two buttons of his shirt after loosening his tie. He threw his coat away as he was feeling suffocated.
He surely wasn't someone who cries easily but this time his tears won't stop.
What did I just hear? He still-
Jeonghan couldn't believe that Seungcheol still loves him so much. It had been almost 10 years or probably even more but the older still held strong feelings for him.
He just couldn't understand, how?
He broke his heart but Seungcheol still talks to his photo? What kind of unconditional love was that? What kind of soul does Seungcheol have?
He grabbed his hairs in frustration, "Why the fuck did I hurt him? WHY?! Why did you do this Yoon Jeonghan? Why are you such an asshole?"
Now, he was feeling even more guilty. He had no idea how much Seungcheol had loved him until now. No one could even think of hurting him but here he was, committed that crime years ago already.
"Do I even deserve an apology?" Jeonghan knelt down on the floor, accidentally knocking off the side table, "I don't. I don't deserve him even for this forced marriage." He drowned his head into his lap as the burden on his chest seemed to increase exponentially.
After a while, he heard a knock on his door. He quickly wiped the faint marks of tears and inhaled a deep breath before opening the door.
"Are you alright?" Seungcheol asked as soon as the younger opened the door.
"Yeah what happened?" Jeonghan asked in oblivion.
"I heard a sound from your room." Seungcheol looked at him in hesitation.
"Uh- this-" Jeonghan pointed at the side table. He walked in to put it back in place, "It fell accidentally."
Seungcheol was approaching to help but the younger was done with it so he turned around as they bumped into each other.
"Uh sorry, are you okay?" Seungcheol muttered as Jeonghan massaged his forehead.
"Yeah don't worry, it's fine." Jeonghan replied.
"Oh okay." Seungcheol nodded, "I'll leave then."
Wow, the awkwardness?
As the older turned around, Jeonghan blurted out, "I'm sorry Seungcheol."
Jeonghan's heart beat increased. Of course he was not going to tell him that he overheard Seungcheol's small talk to himself. But he couldn't stop himself from awakening the past disaster. He wasn't planning to initiate the plan so early but he eventually did.
"No it's alright." Seungcheol assured, "Happens."
"No, I'm not talking about this." Jeonghan pursed his lips.
"Then?"
"About-" Jeonghan inhaled a deep breath, "Whatever happened when we were high schoolers. I'm still genuinely sorry for it."
Seungcheol remained silent for a while to comprehend what the younger just said, "Why are you bringing it up all of a sudden? Is it because of what happened in the kitchen earlier? I already told you, it was just the heat of the moment, don't bother. Didn't I forgive you for that, years ago?"
"You did." Jeonghan paused, "But we were never the same again."
"Don't even expect that." Seungcheol chuckled dryly, "It's impossible. The more you'll pick on past events, the worse it will get. Just leave it as it is. Take this as a humble request of mine."
Leave it as it is? This wasn't on Jeonghan's plan at all. But he knew that this kind of conversation would take him nowhere anyways. All he had to do was to begin his plan as soon as possible.
"But I- yeah I understand."
"Thank you." Seungcheol began to leave, "And yeah, we're preparing for a comeback so I've an early morning shoot. I'll leave accordingly. Good night."
"Okay, good night."
Seungcheol walked into his room and exhaled the breath he was holding for a long time. He went straight to the bathroom to have a quick shower.
"He's still so adorable." Seungcheol mumbled to himself as water poured down over him, "Get a grip Seungcheol, don't expect too much. You've learnt a lot from your mistakes, don't repeat them."
He scoffed as he knew the following months were going to be hard for him. The more he'll see the younger, the more he'll fall for him. And it was the last thing he wanted.
He very well knew that Jeonghan didn't have similar feelings for him, he never did. So this time, Seungcheol had decided to keep his feelings hidden rather than getting hurt by the younger, once again.
Meanwhile Jeonghan was walking back and forth in his room anxiously. He was usually a calm person but this time he was restless, very restless.
"What am I going to do?" He muttered to himself, "I should start planning something really quick. I've to gain his trust no matter what. I'll build a healthy friendship after clearing all the past grudges. Buckle up Yoon Jeonghan, you've finally got a chance to apologise sincerely."
He quickly made a call to Joshua who took a while to pick up the call.
"What is it Jeonghan? Is everything alright?"
"Yeah I'm fine. You've to do me a favour."
"Yeah?"
"Ask Jun to clear all of our schedules for tomorrow morning-"
"Your schedules were already clear. Aren't you taking a day off?"
"Day off? No. Anyways, we'll go to Seokmin's cafe in the morning okay?"
"His cafe? Why?"
"I've to discuss a few things with him and you too. Don't worry, we'll talk tomorrow, bye, good night." He hung up the call before the younger could reply.
He changed into comfortable clothes and plopped into his bed. He stared at the ceiling blankly, waiting for sleep to visit him but his brain was too messed up for it.
"Should I visit him at his shoot and surprise him?" Jeonghan fiddled with the hem of the blanket, "No it's too early for surprises. He'll be startled. Okay let's wait for tomorrow, don't be too reckless."
And after such a long time, he was once again desperate for his forgiveness.
Both the males in the mansion tried to sleep through their messy thoughts but they couldn't.
One was planning to get closer while the other was planning to drift away.
As morning arrived, Seungcheol was ready to leave the mansion for his schedule. While crossing the hallway, his steps halted in front of Jeonghan's room.
He clicked the doorknob and found that the door was open. He contemplated for a while if he should go in or not. Jeonghan was sleeping, nothing could go wrong anyways.
He peeped into the room slightly to find the younger peacefully sleeping amidst the dark room with only a small amount of dim light.
He cautiously walked into the room, in order not to make any kind of noise. He strolled closer to the younger and kneeled down beside the bed.
As he stared at Jeonghan's serene face, the sudden urge to caress his hairs and kiss his forehead emerged within him. But he neither had the consent nor the right.
So he just admired his supposed to be husband's face and left the room carefully. He was failing miserably in his mission to stay away from the younger. But whatever, secret admiration won't hurt.
If Jeonghan wouldn't come to know about his hidden feelings, nothing would hurt right?
As soon as Seungcheol closed the door shut, Jeonghan's eyes shot open. He exhaled the deep breath he was holding as he clutched his chest, "What the fuck is wrong with me? What's even happening to me?"
He couldn't understand why his heart was fluttering so much. Heck, he didn't even know the meaning of this new kind of feeling. Now who got the audacity to shake his soul from the core? Choi Seungcheol, of course.
But Seungcheol, on the other hand, didn't know that Jeonghan had already heard everything, the previous night and now today too. And instead, he was the one who was totally oblivious of the younger's plans.
It was when he got a call, it was from his CEO, Seungkwan.
"Yeah I'll be there in time, Seungkwan." Seungcheol stated as he picked up the call.
"No, I didn't call for that. Today's shoot is terminated, just come to the company building for practice. The staff knows it so your driver would do as instructed."
"Why what happened?"
"Your manager got into an accident."
"WHAT-?!"
"Yeah. He's hospitalized. He's not really fine but is out of danger now. But he won't be able to work for a few upcoming months. I'll provide you with a new manager within 2 days."
"Seungkwan, can I come to practice a bit late? I want to visit him in the hospital."
"Sure, I'll text you the address."
"Okay thanks." He hung up the call as he squinted his brows in concern. He was quite close to his manager so he obviously felt bad about his accident.
As he walked down the stairs, the mansion's staff of the morning shift was already there and his professional staff was waiting outside in the car.
He looked at the lady in her late 30s, Park Ina who was in charge of the overall working of the mansion and bowed slightly. He knew her as Ina used to work at his parents' house before.
"He'll probably wake up in an hour and will go to his office." Seungcheol referred to Jeonghan, "Take care of him."
"Yeah son, don't worry about that." Ina smiled as she waved goodbye to him.
"We'll go to the hospital first." Seungcheol informed his staff before getting into the car.
His steps halted before getting into the vehicle as he turned around. He once again felt a pair of eyes on him but as usual there was no one.
He felt a bit uneasy but somehow shrugged it off and got into the car. It was happening a lot to him these days but never once did he get a trace of the source of his discomfort.
He just felt like he was being stalked.
