15 - Double Take
Seungcheol sighed as he sipped on his coffee as he sat quietly beside the window. He was at a farmhouse owned by his dad which was running for the public but he had the most beautiful rooms secured for family members.
The scenery outside the window had the power to calm anyone and everyone. Hence, the fire inside him was gradually dying, giving rise to post-argument regret, if that's a thing.
He was now feeling bad for scolding Mingyu and Hoshi. They didn't talk back to him even if he said the most ridiculous things for nothing.
And of course, Jeonghan didn't endure less. What Seungcheol regretted the most was asking the younger to stay away from him. He stared at Jeonghan's ring in complete horror.
"What if he starts to ignore me?" Seungcheol muttered, "How can he remove the ring? On the first day he said it so confidently that we're husbands blah blah, so what now? What if he actually- why do I care huh?"
"Happy? That's what you wanted to hear right? Congratulations, now at least you won't look STUPID while hating me."
"I'm actually being stupid right now, he wasn't wrong." Seungcheol sighed heavily. He punched and kicked in the air for a few times after which he collapsed on the bed.
"What was I even thinking?! Oh god!!!" Seungcheol shut his eyes tightly, "Now I've to make it right. I don't even know if Jeonghan will talk to me or not. Mingyu and Hoshi must be upset as well. Yah Choi Seungcheol you can't be helped."
He stood up and wore his mask and cap. It was evening and he was pretty sure that no one would have left the HQ.
He drove straight to the company building and walked through the hallways to reach the practice room.
As expected, the members were preparing a masterpiece, professionally. Hoshi, Dino, Mingyu and Wonwoo were working over the choreo while Woozi and Vernon were discussing something related to the song's melody.
Although they were working hard, their faces were still dull. They were passionate about their work but the enthusiasm was lost. And somehow, Seungcheol blamed himself for it.
"Hyung?" Dino was first to notice the older, "You're here!" He rushed to embrace him followed by Wonwoo, Vernon and Woozi.
The reason why they were so happy to see him back was the fact that Seungcheol had switched off his phone, the whole time. He just needed some peace.
But he wasn't ignorant towards the people who cared for him. He had dropped a text to Woozi before doing so.
Mingyu and Hoshi just stood back. They didn't know if the older was still angry or not but they were glad that he was back.
Seungcheol looked at them with guilty eyes and henceforth, the duo pretended to look away.
"Are you both mad at me?" Seungcheol gently asked, "I shouldn't have yelled at you."
"We're definitely mad at you hyung." Hoshi stated, "But not because you yelled at us. That's not even possible."
"How can you just disappear abruptly, we were so worried." Mingyu added, "And now you even think that we can get mad at you?"
"You all are seriously a precious boon to me." Seungcheol chuckled as he embraced the two, "I'm sorry."
"Don't be!"

Jeonghan yawned as he stared at the screen of his laptop while laying comfortably on the couch of the hall.
He looked at the time. It was 2 at midnight and Seungcheol still wasn't back home.
Working was an excuse, he just wanted to make sure that Seungcheol was back in a good condition. So he had decided to work in the living room as an excuse to wait for his so-called husband.
Yes, he was really upset from Seungcheol. And yes, he still wanted to make sure that he was fine. Yes, he didn't know why.
He knew he was doing exactly what Seungcheol had warned him about but he couldn't help it. Plus if he won't say anything to bother the older, it won't matter right? Over that, he himself didn't want to talk to him either so the understanding was quite mutual.
His phone ringed. At first, he was confused over who would call at this moment but when he saw the caller id, he quickly picked it up, "Hello?"
"Sir, I found out about the truck driver."
"Great." Jeonghan grinned, "Hunt that bastard down. I'll see him tomorrow."
"It's okay sir, you don't need to get your hands dirty. I'll deal with him."
"Alright! We'll be meeting soon."
"Sure sir."
He hung up the call after which he was feeling really tired and sleepy because of everything that had happened earlier in the day but he was trying to stay awake.
It was when he heard the clicking sound of the password at the main door. He quickly focused himself on the screen.
Seungcheol walked in with steady steps and witnessing Jeonghan was unexpected to him. He would admit that he practiced till late night to avoid meeting Jeonghan back at home but his plan had entirely backfired.
'Pretending so hard.' Seungcheol thought as he very well knew why Jeonghan was working in the living room.
Jeonghan was capturing the older's every move subtly through the side of his eyes.
Seungcheol dropped any idea of talking to Jeonghan and just walked upstairs to reach his room. His heart kinda softened at the fact that Jeonghan stayed awake even after the amount of chaos that had occurred during the day.
"Finally." Jeonghan sighed in relief as he decided to go to sleep but halted, "If I go immediately, he'll understand that I was pretending."
He laid back again with his laptop, "Let's stay awake for half an hour more."
But his plan failed because when Seungcheol descended downstairs to get some food, he found Jeonghan sleeping on the couch in a very uncomfortable position.
He chuckled to himself at how adorable he looked. He decided to fix his posture and put a blanket over the younger after closing his laptop and putting it away.
He then walked towards the kitchen to find some food for himself. And he didn't have to think much as he knew that the cooks used to prepare food for both of them and if they didn't eat at time which was the case most of the time, they would just keep it in the refrigerator.
He opened the refrigerator and was quick to understand that Jeonghan didn't eat anything. Now he felt even more guilty.
"He should've eaten something at least." Seungcheol sighed as he looked over at the hall, "He's already asleep. Should I wake him up?"
He contemplated his next actions while bringing food out of the refrigerator and re-heating it. The best idea he could come up with was to 'accidently' wake up the younger.
He dropped a bowl on the floor and acted like nothing happened. After a moment, he took a subtle glance of the hall and his plan had succesfully failed. Ironic.
He decided to try it again as he once again dropped the bowl and pretended to stay indulged in his own work.
Unlike the previous try, this time Jeonghan actually woke up to the noise. He looked around himself and found that his laptop was closed and he had a blanket over him. He knew Seungcheol did it but he just shrugged it off because that's all he could do.
He walked into the kitchen to get some water. He ignored Seungcheol's presence but the food was something he couldn't ignore. He was surely starving but he wasn't going to let the older know that he didn't eat.
When he was leaving, Seungcheol held his harm to hold him back and looked at him.
"What?" Jeonghan asked.
"Spare me a moment?" Seungcheol politely insisted.
"Isn't the previous argument enough for you?" Jeonghan retracted his hand, "I beg you Seungcheol, let me have some mental peace."
"Listen to me once-"
"You need to decide over one thing Seungcheol." Jeonghan calmly stated, "You ask me to stay away then do this. Last time too, you called me an attention seeker then suddenly wanted to go on lunch-"
Seungcheol pressed his finger over Jeonghan's lips, "Calm down, will you? I know I'm being annoying. Honestly, I myself can't stand myself sometimes."
"You-"
"I know it's not okay." Seungcheol's voice was gentle as he held both of Jeonghan's hands, "You never say anything apart from it's fine but I know it's not. I've no rights to yell at you like that. I know I promise you every time but I swear I won't repeat this mistake again no matter what."
"Don't make it about yourself." Jeonghan retorted, "It was my fault for invading your personal space, I'm sorry for that because I don't have that right. I should have known my boundaries."
"Anything wouldn't excuse my behaviour. You were right, it wasn't such a huge deal. I promise I'll keep myself sane from now on." Seungcheol looked down with a heavy heart.
"Seungcheol!" Jeonghan squeezed the older's hands, "Your reaction was based on my fault anyways."
Seungcheol just stared at him blankly while Jeonghan added, "I know yelling at someone shouldn't be normalised but I also know that it was my very own fault so I stand nowhere to object."
"I know you're upset." Seungcheol scoffed, "I did the same thing last time too. But I swear, I won't do something like this again. Uh-" Seungcheol searched through his pocket and pulled out the ring, "Please wear this. See, I'm sorry, I'm really sorry. Just- don't abandon it, at least for now."
Jeonghan looked at the older who continued, "I mean, what's for the future is for the future. You yourself said to me on our wedding day that nothing would change the fact that we're married. And you're right, the past and future won't change the present. So, wear this, please?"
Boy, you got me hooked onto something
Who could say they saw us coming
Tell me
Do you feel the love?
Jeonghan nodded as he took the ring and wore it back, "I'm really sorry, I shouldn't have removed it in the first place."
The urge to engulf Jeonghan into a kiss was rising within Seungcheol but he knew he couldn't and he shouldn't.
In the midst of the crowds
In the shapes in the clouds
I don't see nobody but you
"If you're willing to know anything about me, you can directly ask me." Seungcheol stated, "You don't have to look for a third person to sort out something between us, yeah?"
"Yeah, I've understood it." Jeonghan smiled.
"I want to say one more thing." Seungcheol mustered up the courage to raise his expectations once again. He knew he might end up getting hurt once again but he was ready to risk it all.
"Yeah?"
"You asked me, that you wanted to fix everything, right?" Seungcheol inhaled a deep breath, "Let's do it."
Spend a summer or lifetime with me
Let me take you to the place of your dreams
Tell me
Do you feel the love?
"What? Really?!" Jeonghan smiled widely.
Seungcheol nodded as he admired the younger's joyful face, "Let's be friends again."
"Of course." Jeonghan unconsciously jumped over the older to hug him, "Thank you so much Seungcheol. Thank you for finally accepting my apology."
Seungcheol embraced him back although he wasn't feeling great. How could he? He loved Jeonghan but all he could do was to become his good friend.
It was hurting him but he had made this decision after thinking a lot. He had to stop expecting something in return if he wanted to call his love selfless. He probably put himself into the worst situation but if Jeonghan was happy, it didn't matter.
In my rose-tinted dreams
Wrinkle silk on my sheets
I don't see nobody but you
"Let's eat now, I'm really hungry." Seungcheol picked up the plates as the younger helped him.
"Your fault, isn't it? Jeonghan grinned, "You shouldn't have stayed at the office just to avoid me at home."
Seungcheol dragged the chair behind to let the younger sit, "Oh really? And how about you pretending to work while waiting for me?"
Jeonghan's smile dropped as he stared at the older when he was caught, "I actually worked though."
"And I practised too." Seungcheol took his seat, "It's even."
Both of them laughed without realising how well they knew each other. They didn't notice how much they cared for each other.
Were they confident that they were ready to be 'just friends'?
"We are having a comeback in two days." Seungcheol began, "So I'll be really busy these days."
"I know." Jeonghan nodded while chewing his food, "I had a meeting with Seungkwan last month for the costumes and all."
"What? Why do I not know about that? "
"Since we fought in the previous meeting , Seungkwan decided to keep you away." Jeonghan explained, "Plus we were just going through the orders that's it."
"And you didn't tell me either. " Seungcheol put down the chopsticks, "And him too? I've already told him to involve me in all the meetings related to Serenity."
"Seungcheol." Jeonghan held his hand, "That was a good decision to be honest. We just had our wedding fixed around that time. That's why even I supported him. Sorry."
"You know what? There's one more thing I want to say." Seungcheol scoffed, "Stop saying two things. Sorry and it's fine. You don't need to say you're fine when you're not."
"Trust me, I don't. " Jeonghan assured, "I never lie about my thoughts okay?"
"I hope so." Seungcheol nodded, "Anyways, where was I? Yeah, after the music shows, we'll go to a fan meeting in Japan. We also have a tour planned in Korea as well as other countries but it's after a month. Will you like to accompany me to Japan?"
"You want me to come?" Jeonghan asked.
"That's why I'm asking?" Seungcheol made an obvious tone, "It's fine if you're busy."
"No I'll manage it online plus Joshua, Jun and Minghao are here already." Jeonghan agreed.
"Thank you!" Seungcheol grinned. He was happy that Jeonghan agreed, for two reasons. First, he really wanted him to come, as his moral support.
He was a confident person though but since Jeonghan's arrival in his life once again, his confidence partially depended on him. No matter how much he lied to everyone, he knew he was madly in love with the younger. And having him by his side, even as a friend, would be more than enough for him.
Second, Seungcheol was fishy of his new manager. He didn't like her at all because according to him, she had some other intentions and Seungcheol wasn't up for it. But her moves were so subtle that he wasn't really sure of that so he didn't tell anyone, yet.
He wished he was just overthinking but if he was right, he didn't have any problem in showcasing that he belonged to Jeonghan only, even if it wasn't the case from Jeonghan's side.
"All the best for your comeback!" Jeonghan showed a thumbs up, "You need to explain me about this trip but later on. I'm going to sleep now."
"Yeah sure, we'll talk about it later on." Seungcheol nodded, "Good night, sleep well."
"You too!!"
Constellation of stars
Murals on city walls
